I'm deeply disheartened by the skyrocketing prices of Western motorcycles. In the past, motorcycles were designed to fulfill the transportation needs of ordinary individuals, with the added bonus of providing joy and excitement for non-conformists. However, today, motorcycles seem to have transformed into mere playthings for the affluent. For instance, I currently ride a BMW for which I shell out $1600 per year solely for insurance. It's needless to mention any additional costs, as it would only lead us into a realm of absurdity.
Agreed. The way I see it, in the Western world, more and more motorcycles are viewed (and purchased/kept) as toy, not so much as a practical vehicle. Motorcycles aren't sensible - a Ford Fiesta is 😂. With the increasing costs of living, well, it becomes more expensive to finance and maintain toys. Motorcycles are also increasingly loaded with tech: that makes them more expensive. You can still get an MT-07 and have all the fun riding can offer, but yeah, you ain't gonna get a "cheap" Panigale V4...
I think the bike industry has been this way for more than 20 years imo. Especially since bmw started to dominate with its GS sales. The bmw business model is just set up so that banks make money through finance agreements, and that is the way they trap you into pcp agreements (in the uk). You are basically renting a bike but have all the pit falls of ownership. Basically the worst bits of both the deals. When I commuted in my 20’s I would see 5 or may be 10 motorbikes each day. Now I see many many more biker commuters. If I am honest most commuters ride commuter style bikes, all the rest of these bikes are just toys.

You can get a cheap bike and a very expensive bike depending on your needs and taste
