After taking Amlodipine for several months, I went to
the dentist for my annual tooth cleaning. The hygienist would not do it. She said my gums were in bad condition! I never had a problem with my gums in seventy-three years. When I went to see the periodontist (gum dentist) his assistant told me they had several long-term patients who suddenly developed gum problems. Every one of them had started to take Amlodipine! I changed my blood pressure meds and my gums became healthy again. Only about 5% of people have gum issues on Amlodipine but it's good to know in case you are one of them, like me.

Watch your potassium levels while on this medication. I’ve had two incidents of a spike in blood pressure. During the first, my son, who was visiting me when I became dizzy and felt like I would pass out, took me to the heart hospital where a series of tests were run. Results were all normal except for very low potassium levels. (Doctor ordered five potassium tablets, which quickly returned BP levels to normal.) I’ve since learned that some (all?) BP medications deplete minerals from the body.

Love the graphics. I was on 5 mg and after 5 years with my BP under control, it increased to 224/150 and remained high for over 7 days. The MD refused to increase the dose. Working in healthcare myself, I was concerned, switched doctors and was able to get a dose of 7.5 mg. I have never had any side-effects. Your video helped see the hesitancy of the MDs to increase the dose. Thank you.

I would usually drop at least 30 to 35 ponds of fluid in two days when the doctor took me off it I weighed 287 pounds. In three weeks i weighted 243 lbs. it maybe good for the heart but not when your drowning in your own body fluids

After seven different doctors, in two different states, with no diagnosis, my son was finally referred to the Mayo Clinic. His symptoms were weight loss due to constant coughing, and choking, while eating. He continued to have the sensation that Food was trapped in his esophagus, even when it was not. We went to: an ENT, gastrointestinal doctors, and a neurologist. He had swallow studies, CT scans, and an EGD. No one could determine what was wrong with him. After getting to the Mayo Clinic, he was assigned to an actual team of physicians. Several different specialists in different areas. At the end of our 10th day there, he was diagnosed with a sensory disorder in his throat. What did they prescribe for him? Amlodipine! In seven weeks, after almost 2 years, he had relief! He took the medication for nearly 7 months. He was given permission to wean himself off. That was in early 2017. He has not had a single problem since then!

24/7 terrible depression (apathy, no motivation, no joy, loss of interest in my usual interests)
    24/7 hot and cold flushes
24/7 absolutely shattered (even more so, than with my severe ME. and Fibromyalgia)
    Cough and hoarse
Some favourite foods and drinks taste horrible
Zero appetite, resulting in a VERY poor diet
2 stone weight gain in the 2 yrs I've been on it, due to poor eating (see above, the severe depression and absolutely no appetite, so grazing on small snacks all the time, and comfort eating due to the depression!)
The taste changes and complete loss of appetite happened shortly after starting it, but the depression came on slower, and it is only in retrospect, and seeing the time line, that I am 90% sure that Amlodipine has caused this crippling depression.

I began having serious problems with Lisinopril, and was switched onto amlodipine. But instead of starting me at 2.5 mg, my doctor, Aruna Agraharcar, started me off at 10 mg, with no warnings of any kind. I thought I was dying of heart failure. I was unable to take care of myself, and often needed help carrying groceries in from my car. I actually experienced episodes of light-headedness behind the wheel of a car. When I brought these things up to my doctor, she told me it was all my fault. I fear for my life as this has happened twice in less than 2 years. I do not know what the future holds for me. I also use CPAP for obstructive sleep apnea, and suffer from serious a fever, that makes CPAP unusable when my nose is stopped up. I had been taking Benadryl at bedtime so that I could use CPAP. I will be 69 in June, and saw your warnings about Benadryl. What am I supposed to do? My doctor tells me nothing, blames me for everything, and is of absolutely no help at all. Nobody listens, nobody cares. I do not know what to do. Any ideas?

If the benadryl has a drowsy effect or a sleeping aid..pls stop using it...with sleep apnea you are obstructing the wake up signal for oxygen sent by your brain when needed as you sleep. If you are lucky you'll wake up feeling dizzy and uncoordinated because the brain could not get enough oxygen while you sleep, because the signal to wake and breath has been ignored due to the sleeping medication you took. I nearly died of this ignorance a while ago until I my consultant explained the danger of taking sleeping aid why my brain was waking me up during the night. It was short of oxygen due to the sleep apnea

Dr. You're absolutely right. AMLODIPINE has a lots of side effects. Right now I have been reducing the dose of all the pills I'm using for my problems of cardio-vasculaires, high blood, swelling ankles and itchy skins. Now, I'm feeling a little more fine. Though, I still maintain to have in possession the medication available in case of urgency.

I take 10 mg Amlodipine per day Only minor side effects. Was lethargic but changed my routine to take pl at night. Also had a strange itching sensation under my fingsr a toenails where I need to squeeze my finger tips or toe tips (tips of my toes). I feel that I often woke up coming out of an anxietous dream and had to breath deeply and slowly for a few minutes to calm down before getting out of bed in the morning. This had changed after a year of taking it when I changed pharmacists and I believe I got a different pill manufacturer. Mine now has the code Cip. I do not know what the previous code was unfortunately.
