Is the camera color or black and white? They say b&w is supposed to have better night performance but I guess you might want to see the color of the car just in case.

I'm pretty sure they just have the one color camera for day and night.

@@MyFortressConstruction Oh yeah, you showed your phone at 6:00. Guess I'm just curious how it looks at night without the extra light but it's a neat setup!

uh... kind of seems weird to have all the stuff mounted right there on the fence. I'd back it away from the border a bit and stick it in some hardened box with a solar panel and potentially not even run power over.
these home automation things feel like trying to pound square pegs into round holes sometimes.
there's probably no reason for the camera to be strictly integrated with the gate hardware. that could have been any third party camera, replete with its own lighting and way better image quality and features and could also be located safely further back than the keypad. You've gotta touch the keypad, I get that. There's no reason to be able to touch the camera as well. Validating someone visually and sending a command to open are completely separate operations (for now) and joining them at least from a hardware perspective seems to have more problems than benefits.
it looks like you're building this for customer though and this isn't for personal use. personal use would be very different.

Yeah, so that's the limitation of the ghost controls unit. They want everything mounted close to the control arms (within 4' of the first one). You could probably extend the cable, but I'm guessing they did it like that for a reason (voltage drop?).
As for having two systems (a camera and an opener separate). Yes, you could, but to make the regular control board wifi compatible was $200, and then to have a keypad was $65, and then you'd have to buy the camera you wanted and use two separate apps to open and see who's there. This keypad and camera/intercom was $300, works with the regular board, and you use one app, so those were the reasons why.
But, everyone has specific things they want, so whenever a gate system is designed the owner needs to decide what features are a must, and be willing to pay for them.

@@MyFortressConstruction Totally get it if you were turnkeying this for a customer -- they probably want something more on the "conveniently packaged" (including customer support) side than best-in-class.
I just look under the hood at the automation stuff and it's pretty remarkable what they charge for it.

    just add a solar light

It's a fairly shaded area, but yes, that is an option. However, since I have power there I'll probably just put a motion detection light.
