  • So this video I've put together is a tutorial on how to find a good used car. There are a lot of scammers out there and so this video also centers around the most common scam, which is when someone turns back the odometer so that a high mileage vehicle is "fixed" to show low mileage. I would say about 1/3 of all of the vehicles I've looked at in the $6k-$13k price range have ahd their odometers tampered with.
Sites to use that will make your search easier:
    Carcomplaints.com
(Gives you unbiased data about problems with various makes and models)
    Mytxcar.org
(Gives you basic VIN history like the license plate and odometer at the time of the inspection)
    Epicvin.com
(Gives you damage reports and mileage and is $4.99 for a 3 day trial where you can run 5 VINs per day)

Nice! Thanks for posting this. It is very helpful as I plan to move to Texas in a couple of months and I'm not taking my car and was planning on buying a used one there.

Good, I'm glad it was helpful. And even though it is aimed more at Texans, it does apply to other states, I just don't know what kind of public information they might have regarding inspection reports. I should make a note in the comments asking others to put up free/helpful sites in their state.

Pretty sure 30% of all used cars have flood damage and almost none of those will be listed as having flood damage.
Only buy from non flood areas. Only buy local traded cars. Only buy last model years of a body style.
