Original Metroid theme is still the best for me. I still remember the day my dad bought it for me, and how the theme just slapped me in the face the second I hit that Power button on my NES. After that though, the simple dark nature of the Dread theme simply rocks.

It is certainly very very iconic and paved the way for all the other titles themes to borrow from that initial motif. I love it too, might be the bias kicking in, but there's just something about it that takes to a place and time whene you were happy, you know? Same with Zero Mission's. It's wondorous and nostalgic.

I think my favorite has to be between Prime 2 and Prime 3. NEStroid is also beautiful, that's where it all started. love them all.
    My interpretation of all themes:
NES Metroid: Intimidating and overwhelming, yet hopeful.
Metroid II: Creepy, weird, fear of the unknown. A very important, yet dangerous mission ahead.
Super Metroid: Foreboding, intense, impactful. Immediately sets the tone.
Prime: Twisted, organic, cautious, mysterious. Represents the dangers of space.
Fusion: Tense, suspenseful, scary. This is where metroid really embraces a little bit of those horror elements with the music.
Zero Mission: Nostalgic, glorious, uplifting first and then the intimidation afterwards. Reverse of what NEStroid did.
Prime 2: Serious, grounded, setting up the challenge. Neither intimidating nor hopeful, just a ''get ready, shit is about to get serious''.
Prime Hunters: To the point, creepy, danger approaching.
Prime 3: Finality, closure, bombastic, choir resembles the end of the trilogy. ''This is it'', it's now or never.
Prime Trilogy: A celebration, a homage, a tribute. Very impactful and determined.
Other M: Represents the emptyness of space. Very subtle and lonesome.
Federation Force: Don't know what to make of this one, sounds like music that would play for a batman animated series intro. lol
Samus Returns: Fear of the unknown yet again, just like the original. Now it has a transition with subtlety, followed by grandeur. Represents the baby and the severity of the mission.
Dread: No more playing around, legitimately worrysome, either we fulfill the mission or the universe perishes. grade A level threat.

I simply can't pick a favorite, but Metroid 2's title really gets me. It starts off mysterious and almost off putting with these distant screams instead of a melody for a while, then this subtle and calm melody hits you which makes you feel kind of emotional about the important mission that Samus is going to do. Then finally, this intense track hits you that makes you feel both encouraged and uneasy, but also makes you realize that the job is to kill every single mission. You are here on a very dangerous mission to do a massacre.
The mixture of positive and negative feelings at the same time makes it such a great setup for the game (which is also pretty underrated I must say).

Super Metroid's is so fucking good at setting the mood of that particular game! You know what you're getting into..
However, my favourite is definitely Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. At the time of release, it was stated to be the end of a trilogy of games I'd followed since I was a lot younger, so hearing that title theme gave me chills. it's so fucking epic and I just LOVE it. Even replaying it recently, I still got chills hearing that theme again. So fucking epic.
And man, they REALLY put the Dread in the Metroid Dread title rendition. It's so POWERFUL and takes a note out of the Prime Trilogy's book with some of its background ambiance. really helps to set the tone of the game, maybe even better than Fusion did (and that game also did a really good job!) I also actually really like the Other M theme too, as much as I didn't like the story much, I do like how the theme hints at a more personal/intimate adventure with the soft piano rendition of the theme; I think it fits that game well!

What a short and succinct theme for a video game series. Kinda crazy to think it was written in the 80's and is still being used for the games to this very day. My top 2 are Dread and Super metroid, its really difficult to decide between them because to me they conveying different feelings. Dreads sounds more daunting with the banging percussion..like this is going to be samus' toughest mission yet. While Super M sounds more mysterious and alive with the kindof crashing or breathing sound in the background. Theyre both good at what they're intended, id say Super metroid comes across a far more unnerving.
