“Without Drogba I wouldn’t have a champions league medal round my neck” I love that
Except that it's a far too simplistic way of looking at it and you might just as well say if Ramires or Torres had not scored the late winner in the SF then Cole wouldn't have a Champions League medal around his neck either, because Drogba wouldn't have had the chance to score in the final.
And that's not even touching on Messi missing a penalty in SF and Robben missing one in the final, or for that matter Cole himself and Lampard and Luiz scoring their penalties in the shoot out.
As for other wide players he might have picked not in those line-ups, I would have thought Joe Cole, Duff, Overmars, Robben and van Persie were in with a shout too.
amazed66 You have a case with that, but remember Drogba also scored in the Semi final first leg as well as important goals throughout that years champions league campaign. And also they gave him a choice of 22 players to pick from, he couldn’t pick whoever he wanted
@@matttibos2562 Which all in itself confirms that you can't just put any one incident like a player scoring a goal in a final (and not even a winning goal) as the reason why a team mate won a medal. If I remember rightly, Cech also saved Robben's penalty too during the game.
The presenter did ask Cole though if he would want any other players other than the 22 and he said no.
@@amazed66 well technically he did score the winning goal in that final, albeit form the spot. Bergkamp was a technically more gifted player than drogba, the stuff he did on the pitch looked better, and I wouldve personally picked him, but Drogba was a great player too (so long as he got on well the manager that is haha)
@@kingflixmovies837 Oh yeah, there are arguments for and against Cole including either Bergkamp or Drogba but I just thought his logic regarding his CL medal was a bit iffy.
And again not meaning to labour the point but if I remember rightly Mata missed Chelsea's first penalty and Cole, Lampard and Luiz scored theirs (maybe not in that order) but if that had not happened, then Drogba might not even have had the chance to score his.
The way Henry is in like a formality without even a mention.

Henry could’ve replaced Malouda on the wing and Drogba and Bergkamp could’ve played up front together
Malouda shouldn’t even be on that list.
Dennis Bergkamp played an unique style during those times.
That (support/link up) role.
Beautiful/pin point through ball passes.
Exquisite first touch/ball control/football technique .
Football is entertaining to watch when you noticed there is such a (player)✨ who did something different from others.
How come I am only seeing this now. I just love Carra his reaction when Ash said he will pick Drogba over Beck was Amazing 🤩
Carra's reaction to Ashley Cole leaving THAT player out is priceless!
Ikr
Literally £0 worth.
You can't really compare Bergkamp with Drogba but a striking partnership of Drogba and Henry would be extremely powerful. My only concern would be if they actually would work it out up front together? There were so many good players in the nineties! So hard to pick but I would say there were better players in Europe around Bergkamps peak at Arsenal. Where Drogba was one of the best strikers in Europe together with Henry, Van Nistelrooy, Zlatan and Del Piero up until the Champions League win with Chelsea.
Bergkamp for me is the best player to play in the Premier league. Many Arsenal fans think he's the best to play for Arsenal. Henry was brilliant, he was quick, skillful and a joy to watch but Bergkamp had something extra in his control, vision and positioning.
Malouda over Freddie is laughable Ashley 😂😂
This shows he is proper Chels 😂
Say what you like his reasoning was sound. If Ash and Malouda connected well, synergy, almost telepathic non visual/verbal communication with the other guy because you know what he'll do and he knows what youll do will beat individual skill any day of the week. Malouda wasnt on Freddies level 1-for-1 but if in this hypothetical squad the Ash and Malouda connection gets you 10 extra goals a season compared to an Ash and Freddie's connections' 5, youre gonna take those extra 5 goals every time. In this squad Freddie probably wouldnt get to express himself attacking as much because in front of him are 2 absolute killers waiting to be fed the ball so they can smash it in the back of the net so it would be difficult to gauge how much of Freddies individual skill would shine through, whereas Malouda was used to being another cog in the machine so to speak and thats probably where his strengths shone through
He's basically selecting the players which he has good relationship with.
Nought wrong with that
Paul Julian Sometimes you just want a best XI of ability wise not friendship wise I guess.
Curious though, who are the players he had a bad relationship with? I may have missed some juicy stuff back when i was still in my teens..
Arvindh Mani I don't remember any real bad relationships with the players but in his book he left Arsenal because of two reasons. He was upset that the fans cheered for Henry more than him after he came back from a injury, and he was upset that Arsenal only offered him a 60k a week contract.
@@Zauchi the first one seems really petty to me!
I'm spurs but Ashley Cole was world class
Drogba was a powerful #9 that could hold the ball and score on his own. His playing showed how effective a big target man can be and it changed the way a lot of people view attacking formations
Malouda that season was outstanding on that left with Ashley Cole so I can understand why cole picked him , but can also understand why people forget that considering how bad he was after that and pretty much cost ancelloti his job
Robert Pires was a much better footballer than Malouda.
@@nickkabbabe1953 okay
He was just trying to please both sides. Henry and Bergkamp were easily the best attacking duo the premier league has ever seen.
Cole wasn’t trying to please anyone but himself.
To think that Drogba could've ended up at Arsenal, but he was a late bloomer. A forward with Henry and Drogba would have been unstoppable. I love Bergkamp, he is the better player technically than Drogba, but Drogba was a beast, he would turn up whenever needed and was unstoppable. If I had to choose like that I would also choose Drogba.
Drogba only scored more than 10 goals twice
You lie
Marseille UEFAcup final 2004
Where was Drogba??
African Cup Of Nations any of the 6 tournaments he played where his team would've been favourites a few times, where was Drogba? Particularly the final that Zambia won in 2012?
He then retired and IvoryCoast win 2015 lol
Can only turn up on occasions for Chel$ea in mainly mediocre competitions vs average at best teams depleted Everton with Chelsea's full strength team, 19ptsRockBottom of the table Portsmouth, a mid-table Liverpool, a LeagueCup final vs Arsenal's youth team....more embarrassingly check the scores in these games, they should've won these games comfortably.
Your Pele's Maradona's Messi's etc...don't care for LeagueCups.
He fluked 1 CL after losing on countless occasions, wow. That makes him a great?
Jeez
People don’t realize how good Bergkamp really was
Criminally underrated
I know people who were massive Zidane fans describing Bergkamp as
he was around the level of Zidane as a player, but never got the amount of recognition he deserved
I agree with Carregher... Bergkamp's something else, you don't need Drogba when you already have Henry WITH Bergkamp. the best duo i've ever seen and I'm a Chelsea fan.
Bergkamp should've really been in that team though like come on. 😑
Take out Pires and put Henry on the left done.
@@mk7967 or take out Malouda and put Henry on the right..
@@nhlanhlambhele2592 Did Henry play on the right much? I can only remember how dangerous he was cutting in from the left
@@mk7967 neither do I, I am just against the idea of Malouda being in this team😂😂😂
@@nhlanhlambhele2592 Malouda did have atleast 2 seasons where he was unplayable tbf. Great player on his day
But you leave bergkamp out of that team and I’d say you lost 3/4 more opportunities to score. But it’s just the names I guess. That team on paper is incredible but practically bergkamp would have to be there
@chas farthing...Malouda in his prime was far superior than old/young Bergkamp.
@@doncorleone9280 Not sure on that one
Mine would be
Cech
Ivanovic-Sol-Terry-Cole
Vieira-G.Silva-Lampard
Henry-Drogba-Bergkamp
This would win a lot of titles 🔥🔥🔥
GK: Cech
LB: Cole
CB: Terry
CB: Campbell
RB: Ivanovic
CM: Vieira
CM: Ballack
CM: Lampard
CF: Bergkamp
ST: Henry
ST: Drogba
Bergkamp IN Malouda OUT
As his excuse for leaving Bergkamp out was that he didn't play with him enough (6years) technically he could've left out Malouda (5 years teammate and underachieved in that Chel$ea team) and put Bergkamp in that way and just changed the formation a bit.
@5:00 😂😭😂 the scouse accent just makes it funnier
Denis Bergkamp is a Highbury legend.
Malouda ahead of Ljungberg ??
😂😂
Malouda ahead of anybody is just damn stupid.
I always through Malouda was pretty generic when I used to watch him play. Nothing really special. I guess players get rated better after they've vanished a bit out of peoples memories lol.
Switch henry and maloudas position and add bergkamp next to big man didier
Ljunberg was a better player for sure but that season Malouda was very good.
That was my reaction when he left out Carvalho.
Enjoyed Ashley Cole's view on the Monday night game. Very relaxed and intelligent analysis. Enjoyed seeing his views on his team mates. Good job.
Henry-------Drogba
------Bergkamp
Ballack-Vieira-Lampard
Cole-Sol-Terry-Ivanovic
Cech
I’d have Drogba in my team over Bergkamp any day of the week, Coles right shh Jamie
Bergkamp was not in his prime when ashley played with him.
2003/2004 bergkamp was 34!
Still better than everyone in Chelseas history
I like how Cole picks the team he thinks is the best and not swayed by others. Good honest team selection.....but Berkamp? Love Carras high pitch voice😂
I like how Henry wasn’t even mentioned because you already knew
Jamie Carragher voice let's him down on every single word spoken lol🤣🤣
Dennis is one of the most intelligent players I watched. I will bring him in for malouda
You leave out Malouda and put in Bergkamp all day long but never the less, what a team. The best left back in the world in his prime this lad.
@RL7 Malouda was world class in his prime & your favourite player A. Cole said Malouda was his biggest inspiration & role model...take notes.
The times during which ash played with these players I think he pretty much nailed it. Not so sure about malouda over ballack or even bergkamp in a cam role in front of lamps pires and viera, but drogba and Henry would be absolutely lethal.
Beeeerkamp
That Scouser accent - need to wash ears now
Malouda instead of Freddie!!?? Naaaaaaaa
Can't even believe the surprise Jamie shows with Drogba..he is one of the best strikers and ALWAYS showed up in BIG moments
5:07 that look you know he’s being serious
