    Thanks for the walkthrough, Luke! I just started imaging with a mono setup after many years of OSC imaging, and your video really helped guide me through the new-to-me workflow in PI. I have to say, processing mono images may be more involved, but it's definitely fun as well!

    Great image and tutorial Luke. Totally agree on GHS it's a very precise way of stretching I've found. I like the fact fact you can stretch some elements of the image without affecting the rest. Beautiful heart nebula mate 👍

    This is the narrowband Pixinsight workflow and tutorial I've been searching for! I'm brand new to PI and was lost in a sea of outdated tutorials. Your workflow is the PERFECT starting point for me as I did purchase the Russel Crowman tools (BXT, STX & NXT) and found the Narrowband Normalization process but had no clue how to use it. This tutorial will be my roadmap as I start my PI journey. Thank you for posting this up to date tutorial with the latest/greatest tools and processes!

    Luke, not sure if you know this but using "L" in LRGB is not meant for linear data, adding "L" i.e. "lightness" uses the LAB color space and must be used on non linear data. Pixinsight strongly says on their website forums to not do this. If you plan on using HA for lightness then just do an RGB combination, stretch, then when you run narrowband normalization process and use the lightness control to Ha because by then the image is nonlinear and lightness can now be changed 😊

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  Před 9 měsíci +3

      Hey Bill! I didn't know that mate no, hah! Thank you for the tip man 👍👍 - I probably do a lot of things that pixinsight advises against, but my shots generally turn out alright so I'm not too worried haha :-D

      If I have RGB data that I captured for stars, sometimes I use the RGB luminance for my narrowband luminance for OSC data. Works pretty well!

    Thank you Luke! I’ve been hoping you’d produce an up to date SHO tutorial using all the new tools available…it was worth the wait! Couple of questions: do you think extracting the CIE L component (and doing some unsharpen, etc.) would be superior to using Ha as the luminance in the LRGB combination? Also, I see that many use the SPCC in the linear phase. Since we manipulate colors, is SPCC superfluous? Again, much thanks for this wonderful tutorial.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  Před 9 měsíci

      Thank you ever so much for that tip Joe!!
      You raise some interesting questions there, re: the CIE L rather than Ha, I don't honestly know! You'd be best off trying both ways side-by-side during your next processing run to accurately answer that one 👍
      As to SPCC - I've not found it to be a needed step for images of this nature, as you say, we're going to massively alter the colours anyway!
      Hope you're keeping well!!

    Thankyou for the data luke while we enjoy the beautiful uk weather lol. Gives me another set to learn on. Is the redcat 51 and 533 combo undersampling. i ask as i use the edf60 and 533 and undersample with that. Does that only take effect at a high zoom or crop. Again thankyou and keep up the amazing work

      Re: undersampling, it is indeed a bit undersampled - that said, and as you suggest, it's only ever noticeable when zoomed right in :-)

    I am so mad... I have not done any imaging for months because of weather or telescope problems , and I am not really a proficient pixiinsight user even though I have done some nice work. But I forgot a lot since I have not imaged in some time, so I went to use pix and I have no icons saved for the workflow. I did a reformat some time ago so they are gone. I did a backup of my workflow icons on a external drive but I have no idea where that drive is , How can a drive disappear ? Anyway now I may have to start the learning curve AGAIN !!!!! Prob going to go over a lot of your videos to get a work flow...... Wish you would offer live tutorials with you , would be worth the price , well as long as the price is good. I like the way you do things , you and Shawn Nellson.... Anyway keep the vids coming

    Hi Luke
    Apologies this comment is not related to this particular video.
    Thanks for all your brilliant tutorials. May I ask a question about Stacking and Calibration?
    Do you have any tutorials posted on the initial stacking process of LRGB and HSO images.
    I have just purchased Pixinsight recenently and it is a very steep leanrning curve - but a fantastic bit of software!
    I have tried to use the stacking processs within it but - getting stuck!!
    Many thanks
