  • Mushrooms always seem to be a hit with the crowd. They are very versatile as singles or in groups, and you can put a frog on top or under it.
Using this simple technique you can make all sizes of mushrooms.

    Sculpting Design
    1. Roll a ball of dough about the size of a silver dollar. Put your thumbs into it to flare out the sides, leaving a depression and place on your cookie sheet.
    2. Roll a noodle of dough, take the noodle (coil) and dip smaller end into water and push up into depression.
The water acts as glue and keeps dough from separating during baking or drying.
It is important to knead the dough in your hands as you make the design to push out any air pockets that could cause cracking.
Take a small needle to poke holes in the mushrooms thickest areas.
    3. Add a wire loop in the top for hanging.
    Baking Your Design
Bake your mushroom at 250-300 degrees for 90 minutes. Dough must be baked until it is solid hard all the way through.
You can bake one for testing before baking all your mushrooms.
    Painting & Varnishing
You can paint your mushrooms anyway you like. I used the traditional red with green spots with a green stem.
Spray 2 to 3 layers of varnish on both sides of your mushrooms after your paint has dried making sure the entire piece is covered.

Is there a way to make your own homemade seal or spray, instead of having to buy it?
Your videos are awesome by the way
