Salt Dough is a type of dough that can be molded into any shape that you want and the shape will harden when you bake it. The advantage of salt dough is that it is very cheap and easy to make!
All you need for this recipe is:
- 1/2 cup plain flour
- 1/4 cup salt
- 1/4 cup water
Mix the ingredients together and bake for 3.5 hours at 120°C/250°F (100°C if fan-assisted)

I made this and pressed my dog’s paw into it, needless to say she was confused but it turned out pretty good
aww
I left it in the oven for just 30 min not 3 hours and it's kinda perfect
At the same degree??
What temperature?
I made a. Salt dough sleeping dragon in my class brought it home today and asked my mum I could make some more and she's like, YES
So cool
lucky
ashsayss it never happened lmao.
@@Finnthecreature eye
Maybe she just wants to eat it
Hey guys!! I've got a tip for you, you can keep the dough out for like 3days and it will become rock solid (It's air-dry, but it takes longer then normal air-dry clay)
Thankyou
@@pochplayz3556 I also recommend when it dries to put a few coats of nail polish, I used gel polish. And it literally was great.
@@sibak.5254 is white paint okay
@@fleuraries I can't really say, I've never tried, but it should work
Does it break when you drop it?
When I was a teacher about 10 years ago I used this method for one of my classes, I made the clay, traced all my students hands and cut out around the hand shapes, let them dry, then painted a santa clause face on them and gave as a Christmas gift to the parents. I ran into one of my students about a week ago and she said she still has the ornament and they hang it every year awww 🥺 but I’m leaving this comment to say, if done right, and handled with care, you have a lifetime keepsake.
What a lovely story. Thank you for sharing! ❤️
Six months late but I had a kindergarten teacher who did this. Big Miss Johnson. I don’t remember for the life of me why that was her moniker but I do remember her and I do remember that hand print. I still have it.
Teachers are beyond epic.
Thanks so much! That's what I'm going for with my Pre-K class!
U r sooo sweet ❤
When I was in about 3-4th grade I made a "turkey" shape, painted it and the teacher glazed it. I don't know what type of clay it was ( I was too young too notice), but I kept that thing for years, my grandmother would put it out during Thanksgiving. It's head eventually fell off.
My parents would kill me if i just something in the oven for more than an hour lol
just air dry it then
@@verawong2117 yeah
Make them on Thanksgiving as a family while turkey is in the oven
Microwave them for twenty seconds with intervals until dry
I’m gunna make a jaw titan sculpture.
( I post this here cuz of ur profile pic)
Thanks for sharing your clay making video, but I noticed that your heart clay piece got cracks in it, I have figured out a way to fix this problem, even after they have been baked, I wet them lightly, then I add some flour or more of my clay mixture to it, I then rub it in over the cracks slowly until it is filled in, then I air dry it, then I lightly sand them to a nice smoothness, this has worked for me every time, I hope that this is helpful.
Thanks for the tip 😊
You are very welcome in deed & I hope it'll be helpful to your viewers.
Fantastic tip 💕thank you so much
This helped me a lot! I do online school and I needed salt dough, and this is quick and easy and gave me no trouble :)

Winmill Neko same

It must taste good
Best recipe!!! I even added a drop of peppermint essential oil! My kitchen smells delightful! Thank you!!
Thank you so much mine turned out amazing

Only if your microwave has an oven setting. If not, you can let it air dry in the sun for a few days/weeks.
Thank you!! =D
Different appliances vary so try 10 minutes at a time and check it every so often.

This is so good you need to try this its amazing
Thanks for an Excellent video for this type clay. Just what I was looking for.
Bake for 3.5 hours
Are you kidding
My electricity bill 👆☝
Your electricity bill..?? Hahaha.......
simran harwani lol true
you can put it out in full sun. or alternatively use a toaster oven.

sounds like something I'd do XD
Thx it was easy to make and works well
thanks for your ideas
It's so soft
Thank you it made the right thing thank you ✌️
Also did this at school and the tutorial look so easy
this does work really well, it is not sticky, it is edible and it is perfect and cheap
So nice,s💐👨👩👧👧👌❤️👗💍💄📿👑👠
Nice
I wouldn’t say it’s edible, it needs certain ingredients to be edible. No one will eat flour and salt by itself, you can get food poisoning and can have a small chance of blood poisoning from the salt.
Thanks for this recipe
Thank you 💕
very clean
This is really good
Wow thanks
It worked!!
Thank you for such an amazing video..

Really nice 👍
Thank you! 😊
Wow thanks now I can make clay modules with out spending money on the clay
You can dry it in sunlight instead of baking in oven
tq u
niceeeeeeeee soooooo ......
Great! I ran out of kiln fire and air dry clay and I teach. It's the end of the year so I needed something fast, and I have some supplies in my cabinet! Thanks!
Where do you get all of you inspiration from all your diys are perfect 😚
Hi I enjoy your video very much, have you maybe any homemade glaze or varnish recipes for us to use on homemade clay for the glossy look please,
Hi, thanks for your comment. You can try using clear nail polish or clear-drying PVA glue/Elmer's glue 😊
I told my teacher this recipe so the class did a Christmas them salt dough orderment and we hanged them on our Christmas tree in our class
Thank you so much for your comment! I hope they turned out great =)
i madw this at home ND ITS SOOOOOO FUN
My class would call it stupid or ruin it
Rebacca Clifton
Wow thanks for telling
My teacher never had a Xmas tree in her class just wow 😭 😢
Thanks for sharing this.
Did you baked the dough after making the shapes. I need to make this for my granddaughter. Thanks 🙏
There's 2 ways it can be dried, the first way that is shown in the video is they first let the clay dry overnight and then they baked it, or if you don't want to bake it you can let it dry for 3 days but it's more time consuming
Definitely I'll have my kids make some christmas gift for their daddy but I gotta be fast lol
borigirl722 hi
I'm sure they'll turn out great! =)
Good job
Thank you! =)
note: this also works with Pink Himalayan Salt
This came for me liquid consistency
You can add some more flour in that case
very easy, should try it! Gustavo Woltmann
I was planning on keeping my baby's finger and footprints as a lifelong memory..can I do it using the salt dough? ..will it last?
Hi, yes you can! I have a tutorial for making a paw print here: czcams.com/video/NvLomoR5NA4/video.html
You can use it as a guide 😊
I did this and made them into Christmas ornaments when my daughter was 3 months old and for my dog before she crossed the rainbow bride. It works great and lasts as long as they’re kept super dry (low humidity) and don’t drop them
That's great! Thanks for sharing 😊
I made this at school today and i made a chrismas tree ornament. Ecsept i have a bucket load of douge now. XD
That's great! Try storing it in cling film in the fridge maybe you'd like to make something else in a few days 😊
@@NuttyCrafter oh yeah im actually trying to make hair for my doll now. To see if it works. :)
If this took 3.5 hours, how long do u think a huge salt dough state would take? I'm doing a project last minute and I made a salt dough Georgia (the state) and I popped it in the oven a couple of hours ago. I think about 7:30. It's 9 right now and when I stick a toothpick in it, it seems a little hard but then it goes through. I have it on 200 degrees Fahrenheit. I feel like it isn't hot enough but I don't wanna burn it. Can u help me?
awesome diy
can I leave to dry like that is it necessary to bake
Thank you. You can let it air dry for a few days =) time depends on how thick you make it
ah, yes. I have art class at 8th period today. hopefully my sculpture turns out nice. : )
8th period?! How long is each class? Are you in Middle School?
Im in it rn
@@ms.ferrelli7845 if it’s 8 periods classes are 45 minutes long
@@ms.ferrelli7845 8 is pretty standard for high school. I have longer and only have 5 where I live though
Me to I hope you did it:)
Is this stuff heavy? I was thinking about using it to mold organs for my anatomy project.
No it's not heavy 😊
Do you think i can place epoxy as a sealer? And after the paint dries i just apply the varnish/sealer right?
I have never tried using epoxy as a sealer but it should work fine on acrylic paint 😊 yes wait for it to dry then apply the varnish/sealer
i made some for fun cuz of quarantine
I need to do this for art class -_-
Hai It’s ME same
me to
i have to do this for 8th period today.
*wish me luck*
Awesome video, I really loved it but I do have one question why do we have to bake so long?? Does it have to be that long??
yea
I didn't realize, but I put my oven at 175 c. The ornaments have been in there for an hour now, I just turned it down. Will they be okay or should I take them out early?!?!
Nice!!!! The finishes? Acrylics? What for the shine?
I use acrylic for paint and u can finish with a gloss or you can even paint a layer of clear-drying PVA glue to seal it in place 😊
Happy
Hi, so I really like your recipe. I did want to ask because you use flour, salt, and water in your recipe & these are also used in foods, could you make like a pretzel using this recipe?
Maybe not because that’s a lot of salt
@@OGxNoxu Hmm, that's true :)
im making things for christmas and for my friends birthday and therir in the oven
I let it sit over night for days to air dry and I did a test to see how durable it was I barely put pressure onto it and it crumbled into pieces
It was pretty cool/ sticky but it was easy to dry it up I just put a lot of flour not like flowers from the ground like flowers in that bag whatever I have
done
Can I make it without oven
Hey instead of backing it in the oven can we use a microwave instead ?
Shreya Sachdev 😂😂😂
You mean Baking??????
no i tried that .it burned real fast
Omg I’m playing with salt dough rn, and it smells so good I wanna eat it but I can’t cri
I mean you could...
@@viclovesbooksandtheatre4734 but-
i put like a ton of salt in it- wont i like dry up or somthing? XD
@@itsn0tjaguar326 lol probably
Ur good
Can we let it air dry too? I might use this recipe for a school project
Shoutout pls I only have 79 subs
• Gacha_MerGirl2000 • yes I did it before, it can break easily, if you want solid dry, and hard to break I’ll highly recommend to bake.
Lmao I only have 30 and counting
Hii, after i make stuffs with the clay, do i need to bake it or can i just leave it open to dry for a day?
You can also let it air dry 😊
How hard is it when it drys?
Will it crack after drying?
Would it effect it if I used walnut flour or almond flour?
Is it ok if we use rice flour?
If I were to make a large batch, would it begin to mold or smell after a long time?
Yes it would go bad. If you have a little left over you can leave it in the fridge for a short while but not for too long.
thanks 🤎🤎🤎
Do we have to bake it
