Its scenes like this that make TLOU so special. This dude tried to murder our leads and we still feel bad for him when he dies. Because we know that he probably doesn't see himself as evil, they're just surviving like everyone else. And we can't really hate him because Joel himself admits he was on both sides of an ambush like that before. He's no better morally than these guys, they just came out on top this time.
Speak for yourself, it would have been stupid to leave him alive just so he could run back to his crew and tell them to keep an eye out for a man and a little girl which would be very uncommon to see in their world
0:44 Joel, in this scene, despite being an older, weaker version of the character, manages to perform better than I do when I play him in the game lmao.
In the game, he was kinda like Bryan Mills from Taken. "I need you to be focused... Are you focused yet? ... I believe you, but it's not gonna save you."
OH GOD IT JUST HIT ME. They made Joel older and weaker so his loss to Abby Woods after hole 18 would be more believable to not knowers. Bastards planned it!
Anyone would be scared to run while they know sh. Ots are coming in their direction, especially a kid... so he's making sure she knows and trust he'll do something that will take their attention
One thing i liked about the game is how realistic the aiming was. It was always difficult to hit a moving target. The show emphasizes this multiple times, and Joel even says it, most people are not going to be able to hit you at a distance while you’re moving. It’s pretty challenging and takes a lot of practice. And if you’re in a world where bullets are scarce and not super abundant like they were pre-outbreak, only the people who lived a life pre-outbreak are going to be the good shooters, while the rest will be bad shots unless they are FEDRA because practicing requires lots of bullets.
Kinda reminds me of how they handle gunplay in Project Zomboid. Unless you roll a character who had a job with weapons training prior to the apocalypse such as a cop or military veteran, most new characters aren't going to be able to hit a zed in the head until the latter's almost on top of them. Only way to level your aiming skill is to successfully hit your shots, and given the scarcity of bullets and the fact that zombies are drawn to loud noises from considerable distances _(meaning that firing a shotgun - the best gun to practice with, given its generous spread means that you'll at least hit SOMETHING if you fire into a crowd of shamblers - is an act akin to ringing a dinner bell audible from hundreds of yards away),_ every chance you take to practice risks you dying horribly.
In the game, Joel is portrayed as nearly superhuman who can mow down both hordes of infected and small armies of people, but in the show Joel is portrayed as just another survivor, fighting other survivors who are just as traumatized, experienced and ruthless as him. I like the humanization of Joel so much.
This scene broke my heart. I'm very sensitive to children and teenagers being harmed, so even though this is fiction, him crying for his mom just broke my heart. He's was just a kid doing what adults taught him to do. He's no different than our Ellie. 💔 Excellent writing and acting.....

In fairness, while I am kinda bummed we didn't get the "he ain't even hurt". If the show was a carbon copy then the game would lose some sense of uniqueness. The show has its own way and I like it.
I was annoyed but watching both again, it makes sense to me. It almost doesn't match the tone of the show and would seem camp in a very tense moment. It alleviates tension, and that's the polar opposite of what the show wants, and they are absolutely killing it with building tension.
I think too, Joel not saying it just shows that he *knows* the guy's not hurt. To him, it's obvious, and anything that's obvious doesn't even need to be said. I think it's also following Ellie a bit more closely, putting us in her shoes more than Joel's, so not fully knowing what's going on in Joel's head, and not having him explain the reasoning behind everything he's doing makes his responses to things in the moment a lot more impactful. Plus, the guy dodged the car no problem, so that's communicated anyway. Plus, it's good that it's not a carbon copy of the game, otherwise you could just play the game instead of watching the show lol But I think this is the start of a good thing, and with glowing reviews, a massive audience and numbers of eyes on the screen, I think we the viewers are showing that when you stick to the source material AND include solid writing, you have a good show. I think we're going to see better video game adaptations from here on out. Numbers, and money both talk.
The difference between Joel and his enemies is that Joel tries to avoid trouble and only acts in self-defense. Even when his enemies at his mercy, he tries to give them a chance while they never give one for him.
And people STILL try to paint him out as a bad guy. Abby's dad only died because he like the stubborn idiot he was thought it be a good idea to get in the way of the guy with a fucking gun. I found the same thing when playing the game. An opponent would beg for mercy, and I wanted to give it, but as soon as I had Joel turn his back, the guy would attack yet again, and then there was no choice in the matter. That's one thing I regret about the game, that the developers never actually gave the option to grant mercy. That's one thing I like about RDR2, because if you get attacked, like say by the O'Driscolls, Leymoine Raiders, or just some random hold-up on the road, and you kill enough of your attackers, some will actually run away, and you can let them go.
I do think the brief bit of humanity from the raider is good. Genuine or not you do find the notes from them in the game where some say how much they hate what they’ve become and resorted to but have little to no other choices. Fucking love it

Not really, since it's easily implied by his acting that he knows he's not really hurt. As viewers, we don't have to be spoon-fed everything literally all the time. Besides, Ellie questions him later on how he knew it was an ambush.
It always bothered me that the Hunters seemed not that surprised or caught off-guard that Joel has a car. Like, none of these guys have probably seen a working car in years. Not a real criticism, a quibble.

@@peakdennis1 So true, this whole show is a big let down all around, the writing, the acting, the casting, list goes on.
Horrible, the game did it sooooo much better 😅
i dont remember joel killing unarmed people in the game they made joel into a awful person
He nearly killed him
Clearly you don't properly understand Joel's character then
@@prettyboah786 i did say its been a while since i played this game like ps3 when it first came out
@@brendonrookes1151 where did u say that?
in a previous coment i said that i havnt played the game in ages maybe he was allways awful and i never noticed
This show looks like total garbage, the game was better by a mile, this show is just an insult, its not even accurate, joel dont have a mop top and ellie aint scottish
Bella Ramsey has no main character energy. She has the same face and emotion in every scenario. Ain't gonna work when the timeline for the second game starts cuz she needs to carry the load of the story.
it’s literally her micro expressions that got her the job. listen to the podcast. She did exactly what the writers asked of her. Similar to eleven in stranger things
Didn't feel the same without the music
It’s better without
All you people saying you feel sorry for the guy. You're all easy prey.
the writers of the show literally wrote this scene for that reaction.
Compassion isn't weakness.
@@Nick1Nintendo it can be sometimes
@@oliviarock01 So what you're saying is this show is targeted towards the weak minded? I can believe that. How else could anyone watch this show unironically.
Doza fax, they just soft. I hope they the exact type ppl I come across in a shtf world 😊
"Bro please bro i know inwas just trying to fucking kill you seconds earlier but now that im at your mercy we kool!"
The scene wouldve been fine if they didnt try to make Joel look evil for killing a guy that didnt flinch at the thought of fucking killing him a moment earlier.
Trash scene. Just play the game and you'll see the big difference.
The games action is entertaining but not realistic. A man in his fifties with no military training wouldn't be able to take down 13 guys. He wouldn't be able to fight recklessly like a badass which is what a controlled video game protagonist does. Real life combat has consequences. They wanted the show to be grounded in reality.
@@peakdennis1 More realistic does not mean better. The game is much less realistic and still better.
@@kevinfloiger7197 Realism = better if you're going for realism.
"I DON'T PREFERENCE THIS...THAT MEANS THIS SHOW IS BAD!"
@@peakdennis1Dude, Joel survived for 20 years in a post-apocalyptic world. And in the worst possible ways, Murdering several people, Including innocent people, Since he was also a hunter along with Tommy, And several infected people, Along with Tommy who had military experience before the outbreak happened, Since he served in the army, And he even fought in the operation desert storm war, What Joel has most is experience and the ability to kill several people, As shown in ep 9, That he killed several fireflies.
