Not to undermine your safety message, but beyond taking proper precautions there is not much cause for concern about the battery voltage - about 275 VDC. I developed an interest in electronics when I was 12 years old and was working on the old vacuum tube radios for nearly 20 years after that. Long story about how it happened, but when I was 14 years old I got 300VDC very solid contact with the palms of each hand. It was quite a jolt - I felt like I had been hit in the back of the head with a 2x4 and things got dark for a moment but I remained standing. If it had been 240VAC I would not be here to tell about it.
I worked on tube type radios for about 14 years as an avionics technician in General Aviation (small planes). I couldn't even guess how many times I got my fingers across the 275VDC supply for the venerable Narco Mk12 series radios... many dozens of times for sure. It was like getting my fingers in a mousetrap but it stopped hurting in a couple seconds.
Again - take the proper precautions. Toyota makes it very difficult to get across any of the high voltages but we have the responsibility for our own safety.

Bro! your safety precautions warning was great, suggesting to follow safety protocols were also appreciated, however, I wish if you would have showed us the details how you did it to yourself instead of doing it in the dark and hidding from the viewers. Most of the audiances are intrested in how you did it so we can learn and follow rather than displaying what your finished product is. Reagrdless, it is still a great vdo and lot of helpful information to perform the job on our own. Thank you.

Great video, well said! I have been trying to find out about where the dust would collect behind the fan and how important it would be to check it. I am at 100K for a 2017 Prius Gen 4 and there is nothing about what is behind the fan and cleaning any ducts that could potentially be clogged. I was quoted just under $200 to clean it, but i have seen where at least one other was quoted over $750 to clean it.

One of the best tutorials I've seen, a small note, a recommendation to work with gloves, preferably for a fault voltage of 1000 volts
Another thing, why don't the car manufacturers bother to connect the car's air conditioner or a small air conditioner dedicated to cooling the batteries.
Another thing to consider is the replacement of the jumpers between the cells, a chemical reaction between metals must be taken into account as well as the durability of the material for hundreds which is not that significant, I would replace the jumpers but with the same type of metal that the manufacturer provides.
    Rare video good job. Michael

Hi, I hope you're doing well. I'm following you from Afghanistan, and I must say your tutorials are excellent; I truly appreciate your efforts as they are lifesavers ;)
I own an Aqua, and while scanning with the OBD scanner, it showed that the voltage of block #4 batteries is a little weak, registering about 12.4V. Upon opening the battery pack and testing with a multimeter (set to 200v), most of the cell voltages ranged from 8 to 7.53V. Subsequently, the dead battery sign appeared on my dashboard. However, after clearing the codes with the OBD scanner, it disappeared completely for a few days before reappearing.
What is your suggestion? Should I replace only the block #4 batteries or the entire battery pack?
I've been considering an idea: if I were to remove the batteries from block #4 and replace them with one battery from block #1 and one from block #10, would that potentially resolve the issue?

What happens on the plugin hybrid if say you are stuck at a Ferry Terminal and it is 32C for 5hrs and you use the A/C. The plugin hybrid gets down to 2 to 4% or less and runs on battery then runs the gas engine then runs on battery, this repeats for over 5hrs? I was freaking out near the end I would see in the HUD 1.5km range then gas engine would run until range shows 2.5km over and over, the it got down to 1% but fas engine wasn't coming on. So we shut off car until we loaded Ferry. Then left Ferry once it arrived and still 1% and drove off, once up to higher speed the gas engine ran.

Surely the battery vents not being connected to an outlet pipe is speeding up the bus bar corrosion? If a cell vent pipe was directed to the under side of the vehicle, the corrosive vapor could be neutralised with a small container of alkaline water, baking soda for example.
I recently bought a used C battery for experimental purposes, the bus bars were badly corroded, but the cell voltages were all similar around 7.6v. If the bus bars were tinned with solder, maybe the corrosion would stop, or at least be delayed. Too much trouble for a busy mechanic. A conductive assembly paste could be an alternative solution. Re the overheating of the middle cells, some small computer fans could be easily fitted, preferably under the cells.

I fixed all issues on my Prius 3rd. gen. except bluetooth module which interfere with my iphone from time to time-czcams.com/video/M1QJv1qN3WU/video.html Unfortunately few months my original hybrid battery has at least one suspicious cycle from time to time which charge icon on dashboard up to 100% instead of 80%. Last week I noticed that one cycle charged hybrid battery up to 100% day by day during the 8h drive. Any idea what is going on?

GreenTec Auto → Gets HV Hybrid Battery Pack Replacement Done! New Life for an Old Horse Bingo, Bango, Bongo ♩ ♪ ♫ ♬ ♭ ♮ ♯ 🎼 🎵 Music for my Prius.
My 2012 Toyota Prius v HV hybrid battery finally began failing a few weeks ago after ten years of use and 118,000 miles. Right on schedule for its age and mileage. Confirmed its state of unhealthiness with check engine light and the battery error codes of POA80 “Hybrid Battery Pack Deterioration” and POA7F “Hybrid Battery Pack Control Module” … After researching my options, i.e., a re-manufactured battery pack with recycled cells from donor hybrid batteries with nominal capacity of 4.5 ampere hours, I opted to invest the extra cost in a high-capacity 6.5 ampere hour HV Hybrid Battery Pack with “NEW” cells in each of the modules which compromise the pack. Glad I did as, unlike all the local re-builders that only sell the so-called reconditioned packs, which claim to include re-balancing of the cells within the modules, I wanted the 48 Month Warranty that accompanied purchase of the high-capacity 6.5 ampere-hour capacity HV Hybrid Battery Pack with “NEW” cells from GreenTec Auto ...
Fast forward to the day of the scheduled physical installation at the area GreenTec Auto shop located in Phoenix, Arizona; which was scheduled within hours of my placing the order … I was contacted by a cellphone call from the Arizona area Technical Manager, Michael Ramirez who scheduled my installation at the local shop. On the day of the install I was greeted by Michael and Steve Hodgson, Technical Assistant. To my astonishment, these two men removed my old failing hybrid battery pack and installed the new HV hybrid battery pack within 30-40 minutes start to finish. Totally amazing ... Team Work in action! It’s refreshing to see such efficiency and professionalism. I’m sure glad that I made the positive decision to make my HV Hybrid Battery Pack purchase with GreenTec Auto. This young growing company has set the standard for Hybrid Battery Pack replacement! Highly Recommend … Five Stars ★★★★★
