Great video! Corrosion CAUSES heat, plus ambient heat, hard on ANY battery. Extreme heat/cold are hard on ANY battery.
I worked at a lead/acid battery mfg so I'm "old school". I believe in slow charge, so if it was MY battery, u went thru all that trouble, I could wait a couple days.😉😁🇺🇸

    • @jamesalles139

Yes, this is good advice, for lead-acid batteries. When you get to AGMs, they prefer a bit sturdier charge like 0.1 C, so a 100 ah battery should get 10 amps max while charging (if it wants it).
The NiMH are a different animal. It is harder to tell when they are charged - the voltage stays relatively stable. The signature is more pronounced with a much stiffer charge, and 1 C is appropriate. That means these 6.5 A.H batteries are best charged at 6.5 amps. It isn't easy finding a charger that will do that.

hello every body, I am from reunion island and i have a toyota yaris hybrid 2012. since two month, I have engine light and abs light 'ON' with disconection of hybrid system. So for a long time i just reset the system with pulling out minus cable of 12 volts battery. last week i open the battery pack and found a lot of corrosion on the cell terminals. so i just clean it with water +salt+ vinegar and took the voltage. i found that the cells N° 11 ans 12 has 7.77 and 7.78 volt the others have 7.80 to 7.90 volts. So I did not change the emplacement of cells and put it back on the car. I constat that when i put my air conditioning during 10 minutes of drive, the engine + abs light comes 'ON' again with hybrid disconection again. and today i try to drive without air conditioning, no message appear and no disconection of hybrid system. do you think that its battery pack? and i also have code U0100 with U0293. thanks in advance for your responses.

I can't help but wonder how much of the corrosion on the links are due to salt air of your location. The green on the nuts indicates chlorine. That suggests it's more than just heat that causes the corrosion. Green is also oxidized copper. The car's computer reduces battery usage when the battery gets hot, controlling the temperature. I see that on my DR Prius app on Highlander Hybrid 08. That said, corrosion shouol be removed no matter what the cause.

I live in Indiana which is in the US. Indiana weather fluxuates back and forth where be in the 90 degrees Fahrenheit and the next day be 50 degrees Fahrenheit. All I have is a driveway. I don't have a garage to put my car in. I take extra steps in hot weather by open all my doors allow the inside to cool off before turn on the car. The moment I do turn on the car is to turn the ac on full blast. When in winter I don't have control of that. Plus there is no videos shows how to protect hybrid batteries from kids spilling their drinks in the back seat or dogs peeing in the back seat. I hope designers thought of this.

So there is only one material better at corrosion resistance than Nickel, gold. Lol. The mirror finish is to ensure more surface area in contact. The only way to get better contact is using a foil of Indium. But indium corrodes. Do you ever add 2% nitric acid to the battery acid for cleaning copper?

Since darker colored cars like black for example get hotter inside when sitting in the sun ☀️ as opposed to white cars which would be cooler. Would be interesting experiment.

@@hybridsolutiondiagnostics replaced my 12V battery today and I think there are two options in my case why it may swell:
      1. I used the battery reset switch about 5 times (battery voltage was 9.5V at these moments). As I know, this switch just closes the circuit through the inverter to fast charge the battery. If so, there can be a very big current flow that can damage the battery even if this battery can handle this current officially.
      2. One time the main battery fuse was blown (the fuse was 125A, replaced on 150A). At that time I didn't know how the battery reset switch worked (interesting thing, with the disconnected main battery if You click on battery reset the car will turn on the 12V battery but will not charge it). So the 12V battery was drained fully to 9 volts and after that battery reset even did not work. So I just connected the terminals from another 12V battery to jump-start the vehicle and I think that was a mistake because of current flow.
I think, In both cases, there are no current limitations and that really can damage the battery.
