- Hello everyone, welcome back to rFactor 2 where I’m continuing my quest for an online multiplayer licence.
Today, I’m on the grid at Zandvoort for this Radical Rookies race. It’s the second of three classes in the rFactor 2 multiplayer beginners’ series, and I’m hoping to improve on my eighth position in the BMW M2 Cup last time out.
Qualifying went well and I’m starting from P6 on a grid of 18. This one is going to be fast, furious and frantic…

I love the Radicals in RF2, I only ran about 3 races in rookies since I downloaded the beta access but this footage will have me running more races when I get home from work tomorrow....lol. Good stuff Chris!!

Great overtake... Next time squeeze your opponent up some and use more of that space on the outside. Helps you get a better run through the turn and slows chances of him closing the door. Another great video. Cheers mate.
That's a super super solid result and race Chris! When you overtook Lopez I genuinely cheered - let's go baby!!! 😂😂 Those hard earned overtakes are the best. Class mate. Also I tried an online race yesterday and loooved this experience! Didn't suffer an screen freezes fortunately but good to be prepared for that now that you mention it.
Haha thank you Lorenzo! Glad you had a good run in it as well. It’s definitely far more fun and enjoyable to race than the M2! I think I just need to dial down a few more graphics settings… the stutters were REALLY bad in practice, so I did jump out quickly to lower the settings before qualifying. It certainly eased the problem, but those little freezes were still there. Think I’ll save a couple of presets in the graphics… a higher and lower one, that I can flip to quickly on a track that causes me problems 👍

Well done! Great persistence and pass. You finished higher than you started... always a win!!! Though I have to admit on all the replays I was confused where your car was! I'm used to you driving white and yellow cars. 🤣
Haha yeah, I always try to pick the nearest colour to my usual colour scheme… but there were no obvious candidates in these last two rFactor 2 series!
The Radicals are a blast, especially on Zandvoort!
Hope rF2 will make more of these fun/special combinations.
Forza Motorsport also had some fun combo's, like GT3's on Lime Rock Park
I can hardly believe this, but this is the first time I’ve ever raced a Radical! I’ve done a few test laps in iRacing, but this is the first time I’ve ever got stuck in. Definitely won’t be the last time… fantastic fun!
@@chrisrogerssimracing Radicals are an absolute blast to run. GT7 had a Radical combo on Atlanta Speedway and it was still one one the best races I've had .
1:45 ahaha that was me in the back there. My car stalled on the start and I ultimately ended up DNFing in that race

Nicely done sir!! Good pace too! I have had stutter problems too. Although, I thought it was because I am using VR. It's a little comforting to know that I am not the only one that has this problem and it may have nothing to do with VR. I agree that it is very distracting when it happens. Anyway, good to see you finish well. :)
Ahh yeah good to know I’m not the only one. It’s not something that’s affected me in rF2 before (well, not since I took my graphics settings off the highest level) but it was certainly an ever-present here. Probably just need to lower a few more non-essential things like scenery details etc.

Incredibly, some 260 videos in, this is the first time Radicals have ever appeared on my channel! Can’t quite believe that.
Great racing Chris - a class overtake in there. Bit worrying about the screen freezes though!
Thanks Ben, yeah two satisfying overtakes in successive races! Not sure what was going on with the screen. In practice, they were MASSIVE stutters… like a 1 second freeze. I quickly exited, dialled down shadows, textures, track details etc, and rejoined in time for qualifying. That helped, but as you saw on the video… they were still really troubling!

Thanks Walt! Definitely feeling more confident with getting these overtakes done now. Finding these clean races is really helping too… having a bit more trust in the racers around me. Hope you get on it soon!

I was in that race, my car was damaged by someone. Was still a fun race because I know it was a race accident. These are fun car on this track.
Ahhh sorry to hear you picked up some damage. I did too on that first lap, but luckily it was only very minor. Hope to see you on track again soon!
@@chrisrogerssimracing My car was still drivable but damaged enough to lose pace of 1 to 2 seconds, finished like 12 or something. Was my first multiplayer race in Rfactor 2
Great race Chris! I tried RF2 the camera shake was so bad I almost threw up. I couldn't find a way to shut it off. I find RF2 ui very difficult to use. I would like to use it but I'm really struggling setting it up.
Ahhh yes, the camera movement in cockpit got me a little 🤢 too! I’ve still not got it as still as I’d like it. But there’s a setting in there somewhere about locking horizons… try a few different things there. It’s under heavy braking where it moves a bit too much for my liking. Although it wasn’t so bad in this Radical.

Do you record the in game replays
For the videos, I set the race replays to auto-save. Then I open them up after the race to record the clips I need - then insert them into the live game recording 👍

Yeah those are the only DLCs I have for rF2. BTCC in this new multiplayer requires the next licence, so I’m hoping I can get a few more of these clean rookie races in!
Radicals are great..I can see the stuttering though. could be network or graphics does it happen in single player?
So…did you renew iRacing?
Great video, just want to ask, is the recording live or are you recording the replay? And if you are recording the replay, how did you get the Racelab overlay to work ?
Thank you mate. The gameplay is recorded live, as I play. It’s only the replays I record afterwards using the replay, and then edit it into the live footage 👍
These races on RF2 look like really good fun, I'll have to get involved. Regarding the frame drops Chris what cpu/gpu are you using?
My PC is by no means a heavyweight! i7-10700 and a GTX 1660 graphics card. So I do tend to run things with the graphics settings dialled down a bit. I’ve never encountered stuttering like this in rF2 before, so I’m wondering if maybe Zandvoort is a little more demanding than other tracks. It was worse in practice, but I hopped out quick and dialled down shadows and track effects. That helped, but I probably just needed to reduce a couple more settings too. Still 100% recommend getting involved though mate, I’m having a blast in it so far!
Might be worth turning down a few things you won't miss like grass detail etc. Looks like a blast!!
@chrisrogerssimracing also it may be worth giving FSR a try. Unfortunately DLSS doesn't work on GTX cards but I'm pretty sure FSR does.
Try restricting your FPS to 60. If left unrestricted, your GPU will be running flat out and will either end up throttling, or will have nothing left as you enter a corner at the end of a straight, as the cornering tends to require a little more GPU power due to more movement on screen.
yeah, I restrict my fps to 80 too, keeps my pc from sounding like a small aircraft taking off. Turning down or off post processor helps a lot in RF2, its a huge resource hog and it still looks ok with it off.
Ahhh yes, great shout… I haven’t set a cap on it at the moment. Quite likely this is the cause, as it was cornering where it was happening. Thank you, will change it today!
Quick question on this. I couldn’t see an obvious FPS limit option in the game settings, only Screen Refresh (which is set to 60hz). Did you edit your FPS limit in the player.json? Mine currently says “Max Framerate”:0 - I’m guessing just change the 0 to 60 or 80?
@@chrisrogerssimracing I use RTSS, which comes with MSI Afterburner, to set FPS limits. You can also set it in Nvidia control panel.
Recording your replays on the game creates stutters I turned mine of and it improved significantly hope it helps you
