    It handles ever so slightly funny, but it still has me going back for more. Time-trialling is a lot of fun, and the presets make it nice and easy to jump in to any sort of AI race you want without having to do a bunch of setup. Also, the graphics-to-performance ratio of the Madness engine is astounding; it looks so good but runs so well. I love AMS 2; sure it doesn't handle as well as AMS 1, AC or even iRacing, but I'm at the point where I've stopped giving a shit about that stuff provided I'm getting an enjoyable experience.

    The historic content in this game is extremely good, lot of old tracks and cars to try out. Group C and the GT1's are great. There's also a lot of cars and tracks from South America unique to the game which are fantastic (Curitiba and Goiânia being my favourite tracks, P1 cars are good fun)

      Exactly this. H Shifter cars, historic and obscure cars and tracks, and take advantage of the 2nd to none dynamic weather and time scaling vs AI. Example is a quick 20 min race at 60X time, 4 random weather slots, in a RWD manual multi-class race of 3 to 4 classes.
      Great racing just for the hell of it.
      It's always tough to beat Historic Spa with Group C, also. Multi class there, too.

    The best content in AMS2 is definitely the classic open wheelers, closely followed by the Brazilian stock cars and the various prototypes. I just can't get away with the GT cars in the game. They all seem so tail happy. Overall though it is a great game especially for single player racers. The variable weather and time of day are some of the best in any racing game.

  • @paolomontresor8874
    @paolomontresor8874 Před 3 měsíci +9

    Very nice video. I just want to share my experience. I love AMS2 because I find the underlying physical platform being much more dynamic and alive that all other sims, and very nicely responsing to setups.
    What I don't like is how the vehicles drive with default setups, especially gt3s. To all who complain about "slideyness" of gt3s (in particular 911 gen1, 911 gen2, mclaren), but also sauber c9, bmw procar, gt4, me group A.... please try just reducing LSD clutch plate number from the defualt setup, from 6 to 2 (or 4).
    This changed the feeling massively to me and the cars (now more push-understeery on corner exits) feel much more connected, reliable, predictable and according to my expectations of realism.

    Something about AMS2 just clicks for me, have only ten hours on it and everything about it feels better than ACC. I find it much easier to take the correct lines and make the car do what I want in AMS2, as opposed to ACC in which the cars want to wash out unpredictably and the front tyres always seem to have less grip than I expect them to.

    11:50 rFactor 2 has had laser-scanned monaco since 2019 (Circuit d'Azure)
    The AI is a lot weaker on the brakes, but they have got invisible boost zones at the corner exits to make up for the deficit. And its really easy in AMS2 to overpush the tyres, but it is not quite necessary and its slower in the long run.
    For Monaco, specially with the wet, AI probably adjusted to a really high downforce rain setup, which is why they have more grip.

    @SuffyANX Před 3 měsíci +10

    Your take on the physics is spot on. Cars just feel like you have you push them hyper aggressively at all times and go through every corner with a ton of slip and even deliberately slide at times. I think a lot of people are too slow to get to the pace where they're having to do that or just aren't able to feel it, but I'm not especially fast (102-102.5% pace in ACC, for reference) and I am easily to the point where I'm having to use that driving style and it bothers me a lot, so anyone actually fast is probably going to notice it even more. The tires just let you have way too much slip angle and aren't peaky whatsoever, even with all these updates to make them more peaky. It is super fun, especially in older cars where the suspension of disbelief lets you kind of ignore it, but I know how a GT3 or prototype or open wheeler is supposed to behave and AMS2 just isn't that.
    The AI is also just busted in any conditions other than perfectly dry, which is a shame because they are surprisingly good when they are usable, even if the typical "too slow in some corners, too fast in others" issue is present. They'll defend and attack and for the most part give you space, but as soon as a rain drop hits the track they're grip hacking into another dimension.
    I say all this as someone who has more time in AMS2 than any other sim. It is so fun to just jump in and drive without any real thought, and it's amazing with friends because you can just send a steam invite and get people in a race against AI in minutes with minimal setup, but it is very much lacking in some areas. Too much width at the cost of depth, unfortunately

    • @CaptainCrunch99
      @CaptainCrunch99 Před 3 měsíci

      I've compared the telemetry of ,SIM's without adjustable Eng Brk and those that do have it, and for AMS2 the EB should probably be set somewhere right about middle range, but adjusting it to suit your driving and downshifting patterns is certainly a good idea. Setting it all the way one way or the other in most cases is probably doing more harm than good.

      I did some testing with GT3 cars in AC and ams2. Even with AMS2 eng brk maxed out, it still loses speed faster than AC. The AMG GT3 in AC for example just rolls on forever! ACC doesn't have as much engine braking as AC from brief testing.

    For me, it's all about the VR. Nothing else gives the immersion and performance in VR like AMS2. I'll take that trade-off for it being 'less realistic' than some other sims in a heartbeat, because at the end of the day none of them really simulates being in a real car completely realistically anyway. They all have their pitfalls. At the end of the day, I want the immersive feeling of being in a race car and I feel AMS2 in VR delivers that more than any other sim, regardless of the physics.

    I was not expecting to say this because I'm a complete casual, but I agree with pretty much everything you said. I don't know if the physics are weird, or it's just the default setups, but it does feel like it encourages you to 4 wheel drift around every corner. I'm also not convinced it's realistic, but I enjoy it. I think GPLaps said it has "hero physics". I enjoy just hopping into it and being able to race basically any car I get the urge to drive, and do a couple laps against AI in any conditions. The AI do seem to sometimes abide by different physics to the players, but if it means I can miss my braking zone by a bit without punting someone off the track, I don't really care. It's only an issue for me when it seems like rain or something doesn't affect them.

    I don't play AMS2 very often because the online is not good, but in terms of physics, I think it's the closest one to the real life onboard footage. The way the car reacts to bumps (funny how people complain about that, when that's exactly how real life footage looks like), the rear end being loose enough (real GT3 cars are not so sticked to the ground as in ACC, for example) or even the (turbo?) noise changing its pitch with the compression and extension of the suspension. I know James has real life experience and it's top class sim racer, but I'm sure every real life car feels different and we are all too used to the "standard" simulators, that when one tries something different, we look at it as it was wrong when maybe it's not.

    I feel like AMS2 always had that stange feel you mentioned. Every car has a bit of it to a different degree, I think GT3 is straight up garbage compared to every other sim, the best is probably classic F1 cars with classic tracks. I am not even a big classic stuff enjoyer, but I found those to be the best to drive. Especially in VR. I still feel like the OG AMS feels significantly better, and no AMS2 update ever changed that.

    Try the new Le Mans track and LMDH stuff, those are really good. The 1960s cars around that era Monza is good fun for racing.
    I find the wet track stuff vs AI impossible too, they seem to have a different level of grip.

    I just dove into this game couple weeks back now. I gotta say... I jumped in at the right time (recent updates I hear are game changing) and I have been really loving the game. The FFB and physics are not the best...but the visuals and AI make up for that. The game is really good and if you love sim racing...check it out! Worth the time for sure! Get content manager and grab some extra car packs BTW! Also run the custom FFB setup you can get from Race department. Turn on legacy head movement and set everything else to zero. Go from there...

    Here’s a fun idea, how about a sim racing league where each week the drivers play on 3 different games for 3 races, all randomized from like a list of 10 or so games, and so on for tracks and car categories on the games. Would be a blast to see the top drivers have to figure out something completely unpredictable

    I just have had a good pc and DD Moza r5wheelset(incl lite brake kit(which I have tweaked to have more stiffness just added 3 solid steel filler DIY rings to make max pedal travel +/- 8 mm less (and set my brakes in pithouse to 0 at 4 at 20, 12 at 40, 25 at 60, 58 at 60 and 100 at 100) for about 8 months, because I wanted to Sim seriously after being a Console jokey for the last +/_ 3 decades, so I went Iracing and love it, but the upgrading system doesn't work with my Steam money. When it does I probs will be on that more and love the new rain system but I want more cars and tracks ASAP. But AMS2 is epic and I did not expect that, I love that it includes LeManns. and yes LMultimate is great as well but the replays do not work and nothing I have tried works to get repays working in LMU, when it does I'm gonna be a happy camper.
    As long as Iracing won't make me upgrade cars and tracks via Steam money, AMS2 is my favorite sim thus far.
    I agree that AI in most sims is slow(ish) where I'm quite a bit faster(ish) and faster where I'm slower, Lucky you have mentioned that so it is not just me thinking that is odd.

    Funny thing there’s something about it. I can’t put my fingers on it, but it doesn’t give me the same happiness and feel that I’m getting out of RF 2 ? Do I think it’s a fine Sim hundred percent. But there’s some thing with the physics that’s just off by a little. also, I feel it needs more camera options. If the locks camera angles to track it lacks cameras, I am a huge fan of Sebring in RF 2 For the camera 2 and 3, 4 Where did you get a fantastic look at the cars handling?
