  • The New Faces series was revived by Central for three series between 1986 and 1988, presented by past winner, Marti Caine. The show was noted for its theme tune, "You're a Star!", performed by singer Carl Wayne, formerly of The Move, and it was eventually released, becoming a minor hit in 73. This is the newer version performed and composed by Ed Welch.

@MSwolfdog: What has Gen Z done yet? Nothing they are just activists finding everything offensive and remove it from our history archives, from art to literature to television to film that is not Politically Correct which is pretty much everything before 6 years ago.

This, and the A-side of Blockbusters, were released in 1988. The Blockbusters track was recorded earlier but not released - part could be heard when the 5th Gold Run holiday was being described. The orchestral version heard on ITV was recorded for Central - the master tapes were re-recorded twice, including in stereo for the penultimate series in 1991. The outro was revamped in 1986. The original masters of intro, outro (long and original short version), game stings and Gold Run were "lost" when Central moved from Broad Street but it is believed they were acquired by someone along with the original Jack Parnell/Dave Lindup Family Fortunes tracks. All were, shockingly, destined for the skip rather than the archives in Leeds. Ed recorded a final version for the Central-produced series for Sky One. Apparently Ed does not have any copies of the broadcast version of Blockbusters or any of the Television South quizzes he wrote themes for.

The great Ed Welch. Never mind this one - let's have 'Blockbusters'. One of the best-ever Welch themes. I bought this picture cover single from the record shop when it came out. Nice stuff.

This sounds similar to the song "Trying to do Things better" also composed by him!
