  • New Faces was a British television talent show popular in the 1970s and 1980s, presented originally by Derek Hobson. It was produced by ATV Network Limited for the ITV Network. The first run of the show was from 29 September 1973 to 2 April 1978 and was recorded at the ATV Centre, Birmingham. The show was noted for its theme tune, "You're a Star!", performed by singer Carl Wayne, formerly of The Move, and it was eventually released, becoming a minor hit

Yes, I miss the "answers on a postcard" era of communication from TV programmes. 3:42 I am certain that Phil Walker got a bit more than 15 minutes of fame as his name sounds familiar - perhaps I am thinking of someone else with a similar name? He probably had more success from another TV series perhaps?

New Faces and the London Palladium - could have been 1978 instead of 1988!

Right. Well if you think state of tv is better now than back then, sorry but you need to re-evaluate. It had more heart integrity and decency than any measure compared to the blandness of todays ITV. For all your description you are comparing the technology of back then to the technology of today and even based on those 80's graphics and sound, still overstating how bad it was. The ITV companies that were indeed the backbone of ITV such as TVS LWT Thames Central etc. their idents still hold up even today appearance wise and between them they made and produced some great output. It is a shame the trend of today by some seems to be - bash everything and anything that was decades ago just for pure sake of it.
