Polish firefighters are among the best equipped and trained in the world. When going to large fires or taking part in rescue operations, e.g. after earthquakes, they are prepared fully autonomously, they have their own logistic and medical facilities so as not to burden local authorities additionally. The best of the best and the best equipment adapted to the situation are sent to operations outside Poland. In a situation of mass threat, there is nothing better than to hear... hello, can you speak English?, I'm from Polish rescue crew

Yes there was some really big fires that year, about 62.000 acres went up in flames.
The Polish Firefighters came as a self-sustaining unit, they brought everything they needed themselves. Apart from the Fire Vehicles they also had sleeping quarters, toilets / showers / washing rooms, a mobile kitchen with cooks and food for at least a week (or 2?) and everything else they possibly might need.
You could follow their progress in newspapers and social media as they moved up North in Sweden towards the fires. The Swedish Agency for Co-Ordination of Emergency Situation on the other hand had no clue at all of where the Polish Firefighters were. The Press asked them about something on a Monday or Tuesday if I remember it right, and the answer from that Agency was that "We don't know anything about their whereabouts, we don't know if the Polish Firefighters even have arrived in Sweden yet". The Firefighters arrived at the fire site the following day, but the Co-Ordination Agency was still totally oblivious. I could write a lot more about this, but I'll stop here and let others give you more details. Cheers / B.

Sooo cool to see countries helping each other, instead of fighting. I grew up in Poland, not far from the Białowierza forest that used to stretch over most of the main European continent, now it’s wild, original parts are only in Poland and Belarus. I’m guessing that the Polish firefighters have slow summers, and busy summers. I remember winters in Poland, some years we would be inundated with snow, others we would get nothing but rain and slush.

I am surprised. I always thought Sweden had a well-developed bureaucracy. But yes, the Polish State Fire Service (PSP) and the Volunteer Fire Services (OSP) are something we can be proud of. We have about 32000 PSP firefighters (you saw them in Sweden) + 260000 volunteer firefighters (in 16000 OSP fire-stations).

    • @mbo191
      @mbo191 Před 7 měsíci +1

@@piotrmoskal_pl - The well-developed bureaucracy was probably the reason why the Co-Ordination Agency didn't know that the Polish Firefighters had arrived and nearly at their destination - If the Agency doesn't get an official notification (from Poland?) it's only hearsay where the Firefighters are.
Sweden did have a well organised Firefighting corps some years back, but funding cutbacks and other ideas about saving money has forced many areas to go down from fulltime Firefighters to Volunteers, and the size of each district has grown bigger too. One reason why politicians thought it was ok to cut down on the Firefighting forces is that Sweden doesn't have all that many forest fires. It's usually several years between the fires, and in most cases they are rather small and easy to contain and put out. Big fires like this happens maybe once every 20-30 year.
      Cheers / B.

Where do you get this from? Do you have any more intel to this? I'm just curious.
The swedish Agency isn't really managing the responses but the ERCC. Despite of that I highly doubt they generally didn't know where the polish forces where, since they tell the ERCC where exactly they need help. There are special liason officers for this...
I addition, every fire station on the way knew the poles were coming, because they actually welcomed them.

They arrived by ferry from Poland to Trelleborg in southern sweden. Here they formed up the convoy and set out on their 1000km (620 Miles) journey to where the fires where. Ofc they got a firemans salute (hoses spraying) from the local firedepartment when they rolled out, and the convoy had people lining the streets, waving, all the way.
I filmed the entire convoy rolloing out of town (police had closed off the streets to let them out in one long convoy, so they where'nt spread out like in this video).

    this is the GFFFV:
"GFFFV is an English abbreviation that stands for Ground Forest Fire Fighting using Vehicles. Currently, as part of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, Poland has six such modules, specialized in extinguishing forest fires, which are stationed in the cities of: Kraków, Białystok, Poznań, Olsztyn, Szczecin and Wrocław.

Of these 6 modules, 3 are permanently available and can go on a foreign mission within a few hours of being dispatched.

Each module is self-sufficient: in addition to the typical extinguishing equipment used in forest fires, firefighters also have logistical resources: tents, a field kitchen, a communications center and everything needed to set up a temporary base of firefighters in the field"
those groups are seen in video, there are quite numerous and well equipped :)

This was the European Union's emergency response coordination centre that sent out the biggest emergency/ rescue operation in European unions history. Whit Poland, France, Portugal, Lithuania, Germany, Norway and other countries helping Sweden with its wildfires and they really did a great job helping and I hope Sweden one day can give that help back.
There were people out on the streets in every city, every little town, on every bridge greeting all the firefighters coming to help. People were standing along the roads with flags, waving and every fire station they passed had their trucks out, light on and some even raised their ladder truck to max and sprayed water in an arch to say welcome and thanks for the help.
European countries can nag a lot about different things between countries but this time I think the European Union really showed how good it can be with the cooperation between many countries. In times of crisis, it felt good to see friends showing up to help. And every country that sent help, and every person that came to help can really be proud of what they did for Sweden and how they represented their own country in Sweden.

I'm 50 years old. I remember when my country was in crisis in the 1980s. Everything was on ration cards, from food to clothes to cigarettes.
I remember when "gifts" were brought to us from various countries, that's what we called them. We also received such gifts from the USA (I remember such terribly salty yellow cheese, it tasted terrible :-) I was 10 years old)
A large truck arrived at the school and clothes were unloaded, so everyone could come and take what they needed. I remember it was cold.
Interestingly, communist propaganda on TV said that 10,000 were sent. sleeping bags for the homeless in the US... well. Even I, as a child, understood that there was some dissonance between what people were talking about and what they were saying.

In Poland, in addition to the state fire brigade, there is also a volunteer brigade.
In every larger town there are groups of people who gather and help people free of charge. Whether it's a fire, a traffic accident, a cat in a tree or hornets.
Volunteer firefighters are the pillar of local communities. They also sometimes organize local events or help with religious ceremonies.
Vehicles or equipment are sponsored by municipalities or the state.
In the last few elections, municipalities with high turnout received a new vehicle from the state.
I live in the western part of Poland. Until 1945 it was part of Germany.
The first Poles settled these areas in 1945, and in my town, as soon as the settlers arrived, the first volunteer fire brigades were established.

How Wojtek (not that fameus bear) became a firefighter. This is the title of a short children's poem from the 1950s for t oddlers 5-6 years old. At that time, every little boy wanted to wear a uniform in the future, but in Polish reality, wearing a soldier's or policeman's uniform was not very welcome in the community, because these were oppressive formations of the communist regime. Therefore, of all the uniformed formations, the fire brigade had the greatest respect. Hence, every few villages had a volunteer fire brigade. By day, a farmer, and when a fire breaks out, a fireman, was often the way to becoming a professional firefighter

The summer of 2018 was really hot and dry and there were several forest fires. The one the Poles went to was the largest and it also had the problem of there being an military shooting range in the area and the fire set of some undetonated ammunition so the firefighters couldn't enter that area. They did experiment with dropping a bomb on it and it worked. The rumour says that if the wind had change and the fire had threatened a town in the area they would have tried more bombs to stop the fire.

By the way you're right, the Scanias in the background are part of a Swedish local firestation. They have all their trucks out to greet the Polish heroes helping us fight the massive wildfires we couldn't put out ourselves back in 2018. Lots of regular people got out standing next to the road as the Polish firefighters came and went, to show their appreciation for their help. The fires was finally put out after around 60 days from when it started.
If you want you can read a bit about the wildfire on Wikipedia here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Sweden_wildfires - "By June, several fires were out of control and Sweden requested help from neighbouring countries and via the European Union's Civil Protection Mechanism. Sweden received help from Denmark (firefighters and equipment), Estonia (firefighters and equipment), France (soldiers, firefighters, water bombing aircraft), Finland (firefighters), Germany (firefighters, helicopters), Italy (water bombing aircraft), Lithuania (helicopter), Norway (firefighters and equipment, water bombing helicopters), Poland (firefighters and equipment), and Portugal (water bombing aircraft)."

That's just the Europe family. In the Eu-Parliament we yell at each other and "fight", but when someone calls for help, the brothers and sisters come and pull you out of the mud.
Buses are very often used by rescue organizations in Europe. In detail they differ from country to country and from region to region, but roughly they can be summarized as:
    - mobile command center.
    - Passenger transport vehicle either for emergency forces, like here in the video or to evacuate many people from disaster areas.
    - Intensive care transport vehicle (to move intensive care patients over short distances from a general hospital to a special hospital).
    - Oversize Ambulance, up to 4 seriously or 8 lightly injured, lying patients. (depending on size)
    - mobile surgery room.
I also remember reading an article about a short chassis bus (+-20 seats) that was equipped with a roll container system and replaced a logistic truck. Can't find the station anymore though, so no guarantee.

The variety obviously can be explained as a whole country pooling various resources to help, but it's also about X vehicle being useful in X situation and only there. There's fire specific stuff, but there's also command centers, water treatment (possibly) and various other purposes. When one of these convoys goes out (from all over Europe - as it's all part of a single larger brotherhood) they set out with everything they need to be as close to 100% independent as possible. As EU achievements go, this system, is by far the best thing we've all achieved. As an European, i'm very proud and grateful for our firefighters.

A few guys gave their life in Greece, air tanker crash, I have helped FD before, cause usually they are first on scene, ambulance second, cops last, I have much respect for fire fighters, I put them against fighter pilots. They're so professional, calm and know everything from first aid to how to do a 4hour mountain treck to rescue a broken leg tourist. These guys are wizards, but not immortal!

I totally agree with other people saying that the response of Swedes was just amazing. People greeting them all the way. There are many videos of the convoy taken in various villages, from motorway bridges and so on. They were welcomed as some sort of liberators even though they just came to put out some fires, lol. Swedes (or more broadly Scandinavians) love their countries and they care.

3:43 That's VW Passat (B7) Alltrack. It's basically normal Passat Variant with more ground clearance, plastic cladding around wheels and 4MOTION AWD system. VW also has Golf Alltrack, and Audi sister cars A4 and A6 Allroad, Škoda Octavia Scout, Mercedes has C-class and E-class All-Terrain and Volvo has V60, S60, V40 and V90 Cross Country
SUV and the beggining (1:34) is Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (different from US version)
Blue car is Opel Vectra OPC (facelift) with what looks like either Corsa OPC, Astra J GTC OPC or Insignia OPC wheels
Fire bus is most likely command center or just regular bus for transport of firefighters
Pick up at the end is Isuzu D-max (2nd or 3rd gen)

I understand that no car manufacturer makes emergency vehicles themselves. Emergency services tell about their needs, and a company specializing in special vehicles equips the vehicles individually according to these needs. The vehicle body is selected based on these needs, price and experience. Many companies use a frame from a certain manufacturer because it makes their job easier and they get the right price for it. In certain regions, such as the Nordic countries, certain brands are preferred based on maintenance and experience.
