  • At long last, we're ready to to drop the engine out! Take your time and keep track of your parts and fasteners.
I'd say this is a medium difficulty project. Each individual task is pretty easy, but this will take some time and you need to be thorough. Before following this video, there are several prep steps that need to take place first:
    Service Stands: • Service Stands
    Remove Fairings: • CBR300R - Fairing Removal
    Remove Battery: • CBR300R - Battery Removal
Drain Coolant: • CBR300R - How to Drain...
Drain Oil: • CBR300R - How to Drain...
Remove Fuel Tank, Airbox, and Throttle Body: • CBR300R - How to Remov...
Remove Exhaust: • CBR300R - How to Remov...
With all that pre-work done, dropping the engine out should take less than an hour.
    To drop the engine out
    1) Remove the drive sprocket cover, held on by two 8mm bolts
    2) Detatch the clutch cable guide (two 8mm bolts) and free the clutch cable tip
    3) Disconnect the two starter motor wires with a 10mm socket
    4) Remove the gear shift arm by backing off the 10mm pinch bolt and pulling it off the splines
    5) Get free of the drive chain by removing the front sprocket - to do this, put start by putting some slack in the chain by moving the rear wheel forward. Rear axle is 19mm, lock nuts are 12mm, adjusting nuts are 14mm. Drive sprocket bolts are both 10mm, slide the fixing plate and sprocket off of the splines, and then pull the chain off the sprocket.
    6) Remove the two radiator hoses by loosening the hose clamps with a 6mm bolt and pulling them free of the barbs
    7) Unplug the spark plug by using a large screwdriver as a lever
    8) Unplug the 4 electrical connections
    9) Unbolt the forward mounting bolts (upper is 14mm for nut and bolt, lower is 14mm for bolt and 17mm for nut, and hanger plate bolts are 14mm)
    10) Unbolt the rear mounting bolts (both bolts and both nuts are all 14mm)
    11) Lower the engine while rotating the top back and scooting the bottom forward.
Filmed with a Canon Vixia HF R800 and edited in Lightworks 14.5.
Voiceover recorded in Audacity with a Blue Yeti mic.

My 2017 CBR300 blew up a month ago. I didn’t want to spend all the money to get it fixed so I’m doing it myself. Instructions are very clear and helped me every step of the way to finally getting the engine out. Thank you so much!

Hey I got a question! I just bought a 2015 cbr300r wih only 2k for Km. I just tore the seat off to check what kind of battery was being used and I noticed the fuse for the radiator fan wasn't there, I replaced it with one of the spares but it didnt turn on. I only tried to warm it up in the driveway cause its not street legal yet and I live around a few cops who are pricks. It got up to 3 bars, at what point does it turn on?
Also why would someone remove the fuse? Unless it was broken and making a god awful racket or something like that.

haha...thanks! I was originally hoping youtube could guide me on my project, but was super dissapointed at the lack of CBR300 content...so i figured i could help fill the void :D
Next step for my project is to disassemble the motor, and inspect everything. Hopefully i can find the "smoking gun" that was causing the knocking/clacking sound. Best guess right now is that the crank shaft or rod bearing surfaces have become worn, but i wont know until i get it open. I think i'll probably break that into two separate videos...one for how-to-disassemble, and another for how-to-inspect.
Once i finish inspecting all the parts, i'll likely order replacements for the damaged components and then start doing the put-it-back-together videos. It's possible that the engine damage might be too extensive to solve with replacement parts...in which case i would just buy a replacement engine.
      We'll see...stay tuned!!!

How long did this step take you? Video editing not included?

      @lightningfrog27  Před 5 lety

Not counting the time spent setting up the camera and lighting for each shot, and not counting the parts where i was trying to figure out how to do it, and not counting all the prior work shown in other vids...less than an hour :D

I think about 2 hours, but that's what having to look up how to do each step. I bet I could pull a motor in about 1 hour now that I know how :)
