I think Rooney was 17. Young and fully up for it!!! His debut goal against Arsenal at 16 was magnificent.

Had just stared for England at 2004 European Championship and scored 5 goals in 4 games. Took Europe by storm.
But we were told Rooney's career would stall if he didn't get regular Champions League football.
Leaves Everton at 19 years of age and never scored more than One goal in a major tournament again.
Rooney could realistically stayed with Everton for another 3 seasons.
Everton went on to finish 4th the following season having only signed Tim Cahill for 1.5M with the Rooney money.
Rooney is ManUre legend no doubt.
He will never be anything other than a fake Evertonian in my book.
