@@NewPolkCityDifference between fighting games and Mario Kart is 99% of fighting games come down to pure skill whereas 100% of Mario Kart races involve a shit ton of randomness and things way out of your control.
In reality, the Bone Rattler and Gold Tires are worse, with one less invincibility point and all the other stats being the same.
It barely matters, but yes! I chose the steel driver cause it looks funnier, and I have not unlocked the gold tires
The gold tires anger me so much, I spent like 4 hours beating all the staff ghosts only to find out they're one of the worst tires in the game
Still using them tho lol, I'm not letting the gold set go to waste

I think I entirely agree on the best/worst tracks. DLC has given us the extremes on both ends.
15:45 I think I like the base game tracks more on average. While the DLC definitely has some great tracks, there are just as many misses as hits for me. The base game is consistently good to great for the most part.

I was trying to find a decent combo to use Morton (just because I like Morton) and I was like "hey, Morton has low mini-turbo, let's try Biddybuggy!"
Eventually I tried to go more speedy with the standard/pipe frame families and actually felt like I was getting better results. I thought I was just playing it weird, so glad to hear it makes sense with your explanation on the volcano track hahaha
I would try this but swap it with the Master Cycle.
It has prerry much the same stats with just a bit more mt, but i would say that being on an inside drift is worse since you cant super bounce, cant course correct by hopping thus making turning alot harder and some fast strats just dont work or are alot harder

It’s as if there’s a direct correlation between the get-hit-by-green-shell stat and invincibility; I tried using Baby Rosalina for a short time, and I swear I got hit way more often than usual.
So sad. The smart bouncing green shells activate stronger AI against the Lemmy class

I always feel like my characters have a magnet / get hit stat as well, glad we can resonate on that.
This might be a little worse with Isabelle and monsters. It’ll have some more acceleration and traction, but it loses a lot of handling and invincibility, on top of monsters obviously making you a bigger target

15:47 while I don't own the DLC, it's clear that they have a much lower quality than the regular ones, as there's not much variety in the detailing and textures.
They reuse textures a lot and the track also seems to be way wider for some reason? Making you feel smaller than in original, and which has a better sense of scale.
I have played the DLC via online however.

I feel like that last race may exemplify how the lower speed of the combo can have a psychological advantage when frontrunning. Cuz everyone expects a frontrunner to be moving pretty quickly, combine that with the lower traction resulting in some wider turn radiuses and you just have a recipe for people to get trailed while drifting behind you.

@@julhoh2283 the yoshi bike is an inward drifting bike, which puts you at a slight disadvantage on many tracks, but can be used. the most important skill in the whole game is to memorize all the tracks, so play lots of grand prixs and time trials to help!

I understand your sentiment with “bad can be hype” but I personally look at it from the other angle. Someone’s favorite kart is the Tri-Speeder. Or the P-Wing. Or they really like Monster tires. And sure, they can use those parts, but at quite the disadvantage then they’d normally have. I’m of the opinion that every part should be good so that people can choose what they want to use, without having to worry about bad stats.

When you were talking about how the game hates when you try to balance your stats, it reminded me of go-to build in the Wii U Mario Kart 8.
Lemmy, B-Dasher, Cyber Slick, and Waddle Wing. Little me thought getting as much speed as I could with Lemmy was the play.

I realized a few days ago why Wiggler stays red after getting hit. I believe it's a visual representation of invincibility frames. This can be a very good thing, or a very bad thing.

Lemmy's bad stats creates smaller breakaways which in turn makes everyone's items worse when in 1st. Combine this with high invincibility and you have a a weirdly resilient post-bagging lead.

Would you say that Lemmy/Baby Rosalina are the worst characters in general? Like, if you could use them with any other combo, would they still be the worst characters, or would that go to a heavier character?
That's an interesting question. I think that Lemmy on biddybuggy is useable but highly lacking in weight, and so slow that he cant make comebacks. But he can frontrun.
Bowser on a fast combo has a little more trouble frontrunning, but can definitely bag and make comebacks with the speed, which is a viable opening strategy on many tracks.
It's just my guess, but I think Lemmy is worse than bowser overall. Bowser biddy > Lemmy biddy, and then Bowser steel driver > Lemmy steel driver.

As someone who uses steel driver i can confirm it was a good vehicle back before wave 4
I've been wondering for a while, how do you anticipate the shocks?
Luck, mostly. Also, the longer you wait, the more likely a shock comes. The most important time to dodge is starting on lap 3. I held my items on sunset wilds because they don't serve me much benefit until the start of lap 3 where the shortcuts are, so I used it there. On sweet sweet canyon, I used my star after the cannon since shocking someone in a cannon is pointless, and then if I didn't dodge, I'd just hope my next item extends my invincibility. On bone dry dunes, that was pure luck and I was not expecting it.
If your opponents are skilled, you also want to watch for how many people are in a star/bullet. If too many people will dodge, the shock holder will wait. If nobody will dodge, you can activate your invincibility to be the only person dodging, and the shock holder may think it's a good time to use it. If your opponents are not that skilled, I promise you the shock is almost completely random haha

Now here is an interesting thought experiment. A Kart with universally awful stats across the board... whose immunity stat is so high you basically can only get hit by one thing per race.

Your last course got me wondering... Is there any map where you should be more aggressive? Or does it not matter?
In general defensive play is better. When you hit someone, you pass 1 person. But when someone hits you, usually 3+ people pass you. And being in 1st place is so valuable because you stay away from the vortex of spam items.
I don't think there is any track where you should consistently be aggressive. But there are good aggressive plays to look out for. For example, backing a bomb on a narrow path or around a blind corner. Throwing a red shell right before a double item box. Putting a banana in a narrow shortcut like the end of cloudtop cruise.
