Yes! I was on an 8 year running streak, doing at least a mile for it to count. Unfortunately that came to a stop when I unexpectedly found out I had stage 4 colon cancer - I’d been an athlete my entire life, ate right, but it can happen to anyone. Turned out my diagnosis was genetic (lynch syndrome) and worth testing for if you have had a family member diagnosed. Sorry for the random /PSA I ran while going through chemo and most of treatment, only taking time off after surgeries. Two weeks ago I started my daily running again. It just feels right, and I’m even more grateful for just being able to do this simple activity - a life changing habit if you want it to be.
strongly agree on this I just did my 53km Ultra in Thailand last June 4 and it was brutal. Out of 354 runners who signed up 98 are DNF’s luckily I finished it. The fact that I never ran a full marathon and immediately signed up for an Ultra is not a good idea. But with proper training and dedication plus mindset during the race is the key. Can i ask what the effect is on your joints for long distance runs on a regular basis. I do max 5k. It gives me the cardio and mightkeep my knees and hips better for thr long run...any advise how to be a long distance runner and keep bones good
Should have done it when i was competing in college. How much of the time is spent walking on an ultra? I’m currently training for my first regular marathon with the goal of doing an ultra in the next couple years. I’m interested to know how much of it is actually at a run.
It varies a huge amount based on the specifics of the course you want to run. A lot of the races in my region have significant elevation gains, so it's pretty much guaranteed that I'll be walking 25% of it because it would just be waaay too wasteful in terms of energy to run the steep uphill sections. Also if you've got an area with significant technical (rocky and uneven) terrain you'll likely be walking slightly more because it's just difficult to navigate that at speed. Get a flat 50-100km on a good trail though and it's entirely possible to run the entire thing as long as you've taken plenty of time to understand your pacing strategy. With all that said though, the only competition is yourself and the time cutoff of your particular race. As long as you know how fast you need to be going to finish the event then you can walk as much as you want within that.
You'll most likely find the ultra easier to train for and run than the road marathon... and more enjoyable! Not being snide, it's just that trails in general are more laid back in attitude and atmosphere, and taking the emphasis off pace-pace-pace is freeing. If you can do a marathon, you can absolutely do a 50k. Best wishes!
Depends on the terrain and elevation gains plus the distance I ran a short ultra years ago on a very flat course 52km 2 years ago I ran a very hilly 60km and the last 10 km was mostly up hills which was a fast walk/slow jog at best
I ran over 67 International Marathon for the past 20 years, including 1 time Boston Marathon, 1 time of Berlin Marsthon and over 5 time of Tokyo Marathon. In fact, tp.complete one Marathon, with good training and that is very easy.
Just because 99% havent done it, doesnt mean its worth chasing. You could spend that time with your kids, investing in your relationship with your partner, reading books or learning. Running is good for your health. Running a marathon or even more is a waste of time and leads to joint pain down the road tbh
I literally broke my record yesterday running 10.31 miles for 2 hours. My previous record was 7 miles for 1 hr and 20 mins. Im trying to do half marathon but my legs are aching right now 😅
Hlo bro,i also run everyday and i also have a strong foundation and try to maintain consistency but sometimes my knee pains very badly because of which i break my consistency i even strech out to avoid the pain but it use to again n again after some days
I’m about to do a 100 mile marathon and I have zero experience I got 2 and a half months to prepare and I think I got it 😭 some tips would be very kindly appreciated 😭
I just ran a half marathon a week ago for the first time... I did it with no practice and the only running experience I had were 5ks i did 2 years ago and a couple recent 1500m races. I finished it in 2:01:10 without much of a problem... then i died the following days bc my calves weren't used to thaat much running...
i have flat feet and a bad knee. i walk and hike and do short run at the beach but afraid to have problems in later life. many marathon runners have worn down their knee. so i guess i never made it a goal. i admire people that do it though.
Many non marathon runners have worn down their knees, too. As a person with non running related damages knees, and degenerative disc disorder, my neck and knees hurt LESS when I'm running trail ultras. Running has been proven to strengthen the ends of bones, and trails are easier on the joints, maybe that's why? Best wishes!
Ive decided to take a deep dive into alcoholism, in order to challenge myself. I've worked my way up to a full cask of wine (30 drinks), per night. I start feeling the need to start dinking around the 12 mile mark. Any pointers? Im not lying, except the 12 mile part. I run at least 8k per day😂

Can i ask what the effect is on your joints for long distance runs on a regular basis. I do max 5k. It gives me the cardio and mightkeep my knees and hips better for thr long run...any advise how to be a long distance runner and keep bones good
Ran my first yesterday, was horrible but very gratifying
Should have done it when i was competing in college. Furthest i ever did was a half marathon for a long distance run at 1:18:45 that was just our tempo run during my collegiate days; i wonder what i would have run if i raced and did marathon that same year 😅
Never too late bur definitely dont think ill be in that shape since i packed on 30lbs of muscles since then😭
I run because one day I won't be able to.
But today is not that day.
first advice: run a couple of marathons and switch to a video on how to do that.
Whats harder, training for an ultra or the actual ultra. 😏
Training, this sucks ass
Me watching this after doing a 1k.
Depends on the terrain and elevation gains plus the distance
I ran a short ultra years ago on a very flat course
52km
2 years ago I ran a very hilly 60km and the last 10 km was mostly up hills which was a fast walk/slow jog at best
Im a sprinter but maybe some day ill do a marathon
Done my first 24hr ultra in October 2021 and now have 4 done, completed my first 100 miler back in June.
Right now I'm 16, I'm gonna train to one day do a 50km ultra marathon
good luck! Train hard!
I ran over 67 International Marathon for the past 20 years, including 1 time Boston Marathon, 1 time of Berlin Marsthon and over 5 time of Tokyo Marathon. In fact, tp.complete one Marathon, with good training and that is very easy.
I like to run on mushrooms
Just because 99% havent done it, doesnt mean its worth chasing. You could spend that time with your kids, investing in your relationship with your partner, reading books or learning.
Running is good for your health. Running a marathon or even more is a waste of time and leads to joint pain down the road tbh
If you're saying sauna is hard you're doing sauna wrong 😂 it's the most relaxing thing there is, everyone does it regularly here in Finland.

I literally broke my record yesterday running 10.31 miles for 2 hours. My previous record was 7 miles for 1 hr and 20 mins. Im trying to do half marathon but my legs are aching right now 😅

That's because we all have life's and have real achievements like life and are family's
I ran a few steps before the beginning of my marathon and a few after the finish so i ran an ultra!
Have u ever considered or done the comrades marathon in south africa.
backyard ultra record is 108 hours. 450 miles
Never close to a marathon but I did a few years of 1k miles.
Show up everyday!!
I just ran a half marathon a week ago for the first time... I did it with no practice and the only running experience I had were 5ks i did 2 years ago and a couple recent 1500m races. I finished it in 2:01:10 without much of a problem... then i died the following days bc my calves weren't used to thaat much running...
I think any person in average shape can run a marathon. It just takes putting one foot in front of the other.
idk, always my calves are hurting... im done :(
I tried so much, any advices?
i have flat feet and a bad knee. i walk and hike and do short run at the beach but afraid to have problems in later life. many marathon runners have worn down their knee. so i guess i never made it a goal. i admire people that do it though.
And hit the gym before continuing to the next cask, each day.
Now: im working my way up to a marathon and I feel like I have a certain mental toughness, howeve...
I start feeling the need to start dinking around the 12 mile mark.
Any pointers?
Im not lying, except the 12 mile part. I run at least 8k per day😂
