SUB 15 MINUTE 5K! MY THOUGHTS THROUGHOUT THE RACE

- What a race this turned out to be!
Thanks Morgan for bringing out the best in me.
I re-live the whole experience and speak through the thoughts that ran through my mind.
This is how I mentally break down a 5k;
1st km: Active warm-up. Control that adrenaline.
2nd and 3rd km: Requires focus. Sets the tone for the rest of the race.
4th KM: The hardest and normally the slowest of them all! GRIND!
Last km: ALL YOU GOT!
I hope this video helps if you if you have shorter race and need to block out those demons when the going gets tough.
BOOM SHAKALAKA!

Onwards and Upwards, Nick:
I think that it is amazing that Amy can run the same pace while running backwards and holding the camera so steady
Bwahaha recovery zone 2 run for her! 🤣🙌🏻
Amy can probably run the first sub 12min 5k
@@THUNDERCAT37c What are you talking about she can do sub 10 min on the 5k
Great running and nice presentation in this video 👍👍👍
She had a head start. Meaning she probably only did 4.9km backwards while holding the camera steady. Hardly anything to write home about.
It's mad to me that top marathon runners run this pace for 2 hours.
That kid has an absolutely beautiful stride. Just looks effortless.
Running at 77 Kgs at that speed is definitely hard. Great job!
He’s stride is very ‘elite’ I must say! Thanks 👊🏻 I’ve always lived by the theory, fuel hard, train hard!
Your height? Age ?
@@trrc9276 6’4” at 47 years old and 194 lbs.
@trrc9276 his height is 185cm he said in the video I don't know his age
I'm 33 champ@@mjrhelpstootherathletes8422
Morgan really has an elegant stride.
Thought exactly the same thing! So smooth!
@@justalilbester His cadence seems to be a bit lower than yours
@@jbosseur He got that Paul Chelimo stride 🤣
He seemed to have a longer stride and lower cadence, while nick had a shorter stride and much higher cadence.
@@tomascanevaro4292 Yup that't it. It really left like I was running behind a pro! We all have our different styles. We can work on them (to a point). It's all about owning it and unlocking as much as you can.
"Last 600m. You versus you." That's my favorite part of running. That step by step, minute by minute, hour by hour, mile by mile battle with yourself. It's the most meditative experience that I know of.
To a veteran (age 65) masters competitor like me, this is a thrilling and highly educational video. My 5K PR as a mid-20-something was 17:27, so I never got to experience the vibe up front, as it were. For that reason alone, you've gifted an Old Guy with a front-row seat, and I thank you for that. But I love your stream-of-consciousness narration, which resonates strongly, I'm sure, with many of us who love competition, at whatever speed, and are canny enough to keep our powder dry for the moment when we make our move. I was amazed, frankly, when you left your young competitor in the dust at the beginning of mile 3. His stride was fantastic, as you noted. Yours is serviceable. But here, too, you taught us something, which is that the "right" body, the "right" stride, isn't the only thing that counts. Training counts; heart counts; racing strategy counts. Please continue! This is inspiring.
Bro congrats!!! I swear I hit aerobic threshold watching you LOL
Haha get involved!! 🤣👊🏻
Fellow runner here. In my mind the most beautiful part of running is when someone with supreme conditioning and ability makes it look absolutely effortless..
But when I'm in the race, I'm disgusted by them - in my mind I can accept people being better runners than me, being able to go farther / quicker... what I struggle with is how easy they make it look! They should have at least some of my breathlessness and pain 😂😂
and here i am reaching 200 HR while running at 5:50km pace...my lord you are a machine mate!
Haha 200 HR! You beast 😉
I reached 203 at the same pace last night, horrific 😂
Great content. Didn't think I would ever sit through watching someone running for 15 minutes, but here we are =]
Made my bathroom break lol
Watched it twice now haha.
I'll be happy if I can reach my goal of sub 20 5k
Everyone, let's have a round of applause for Amy for being such a bad ass. How could she speak that clear at that pace?
She's cycling mate. Lol
@@willykorir5059that’s the joke
This was a fun watch. Very well filmed too! Absolutely smashed it and the commentary was insightful. Also, Morgan is like a bloody gazelle. Super smooth.
Glad you enjoyed it! 👊🏻
@@justalilbester Very good presentation. It brings me back to when I was in HS and running... I think I used to do like sub seventeen and felt good about it.
It is habit forming... I am sure you can look forward to being in very good shape all of your life....
Morgan’s stride is wild, the way his feet fly back and tuck so close to his butt on the way forward compared to Nick’s which doesn’t go quite as high on the follow through. Still both great strides, my personal stride is more like Nick’s with the tighter stride.
Not sure which is which, but #4 seems to be overstriding and is far above 180 steps per minute, the idea cadence. I bet he'd shave off even more time if he got closer to this ideal cadence. Also, extremely impressive!
@@TheLoneCamper he is not overstriding. his foot is landing exactly where it should
Stride goals right there! That’s what I was thinking when running behind Morgan.
Whilst we all have our different strides. There’s definitely improvements I can make, which is great! Let’s go find those extra seconds! 👊🏻
So wild! Great work!
this was really fun to watch! well done!
Absolutely incredible!!!
Not enough props being given to Amy. She ran circles around this dude while running the same time as him, and she was running so smooth it looked like the camera was on a bike or something.
Amazing job, Amy.
Wait... Amy wasn't on a bike?!
@@SuperYtc1 nope. She just has super human speed and super smooth running form. She runs like she's floating on a cloud.
@@williamdowling7718 is this a joke? the camera is wayy too smooth filmed, apart from the velocity
Great watch. Well done 👏🏻
So bloody inspiring Nick!
Well done Nick and also Amy for a great video!
Very valuable video and great work!
Magnificent effort there Nick. Great run.
That was awesome 👍😎
This is a brilliant breakdown very well done.
Amazing pacing and effort!
Amazing. Awesome video, congrats!
What a nice lesson ❤ thank you so much 💪💪💪
I really enjoyed the play by play. Well done.
Amazing run. Those thoughts... So recognizeable!!!!
Excellent video, watched it start to finish, great commentary as well. Super inspiring!
absolutely astounding
Absolutely love these style of videos Nick. I want more!
love the attitide, love the love, dude honestly this is amazing
This is such a dope video. I would love to see more like this! Keep on keeping on! ✌️
SUPER ENERGETIC RUN . CONGRATULATIONS
I can feel you. That's fun experience for each runner. Morgan has perfect running form, which I admire very much.
Nick you’re an absolute beast
QUALITY content. This is what the world needs!
Smooth and first class. Well done!
A beast! Congrats! Awesome!
Dude I freaking enjoyed the heck out of this video, i felt like i was in this race with you guys. Really appreciate this kind of content
This was a sweet video mate!! Loved seeing you race/hearing the thoughts along the way. Congrats on the time
This was a great video
Loved the internal commentary
that was so good man, thanks for the commentary and well done!!
Smooth run! Inspiring. Great camera work as well!
Love it! Great vid mate. Well done.
This popped up on the front page, and glad it did. Was fun listening to your commentary of your run. Morgan unknowingly had some great race tape recorded he can use to review his own performance. Great vid, camera work by Amy was awesome!
Congrats 🍾
Thank you!! Absolutely enjoyed it #phenomenal 👏🏽👏🏽🔥🔥
Oooh, I really enjoyed this style of video! You get to watch a race unfold in real-time which is awesome and rhe running commentary is also really informative. Nice job Nick!! Boomshakalaka 😂
Awesome 5k race, one of the best 5k races I’ve seen on the net for a long time, super fast 💨🥳😀👍🏼
So interesting to see the difference in running styles and that you're so damn fast! Thanks
Beast! Nick you little masterclass
Love this. Fantastic filming and great to hear your commentary throughout. What is surprising to me is how similar some of those thoughts are to mine even though at totally different levels. Always battling those opposing thoughts and for me whilst i hang on for dear life whoever is in front of me always looks to me like they have have great form and is just gliding along effortlessly!
great commentary , actually felt the adrenalin rush at the end. Felt i was actually running it . gz
Awesome video and absolutely great performance! Just subbed as well and look forward to watching more content like this! Congrats on 1st place 🎉
Amazing!! My heart went up watching this race
That was compelling, and highly motivating. Well done, congratulations and thanks for sharing.
Inspiring. Mad respect.
Well done mate
Great video. I really appreciated you recounting all of your interior conversations with yourself. When things get tough in a race it sometimes feels like there are two voices speaking to you, one saying "this is too hard", the other saying "dont give up". In many ways its just as important I think to train your mind as it is your body. Thankyou for sharing these insights into the psychological aspects of running.
I got emotional with this video and I'm training hard for 5 km and almost I can feel what you were feeling and It was touching! Massive congratulations for you and everybody around you that makes part of all of it🏆
Thank you and glad to hear it hit home for you 🥹 it’s an emotional sport I tell you!
Loved this race! And the camera work👍
Loved this video, one of the most honest and informative look into elite running I've seen on CZcams. Currently between projects and this really inspired me to set a new target. So funny how the mental games are identical no matter the ability, I've thought all those exact things mid-race before!
Fantastic effort and what a nice person even committed on the back markers as we know it's hard no matter what level we are
really nice vid. Thx for the insights and all the best for you. Greetings
what a nice guy you seem to be Nick, and a lucky guy to have someone like Amy supporting you. Glad I've stumbled on this video
Nice race, great opponent, nice camera work, interesting commentary. Thank you, mate, inspiring video. Keep up the good work
This was an incredible video! As an avid runner and one who tries to progress towards what you're doing here it was really inspirational! Subbed!
Fantastic Nick🎉 this was such a helpful commentary over the video. You really are such a great human you can tell service to others is what you’re all about. Great footage from Amy too.
I need to get to Battersea
Great run mate,a true Brit
“Boom shaka laka” indeed! Beautiful run, well done big man, really impressive!
Morgans stride is amazing, just flowing the way I wish I could.
Great run, impressive performance, especially considering how hard fought the last couple of kilometers were. Congrats on the win. Great footage too.
Fantastic run. So smooth. Love the commentary. From a former elite sub 15min runner I know how tough and great it feels to go sub 15. Congrats and sure you'll hit your pb soon enough
Machine! that last mile wow!
Had my first fun on this weekend past, your comment on how even little support from the side can encourage you I found so damn true.
They had a bagpipe section at the end which gave me so much energy i felt like William Wallace.
Well done, very relaxed swing!
Great video, I really enjoyed it.
Wow. What incredible sporting action. Wonderful idea to hear your reflections and analysis.
Great stuff from Morgan to make it a race.
Suburb performances.
Sub 15 5k is insane! So quick! I liked you talking about punching aside the demons, imagine what these guys go through for 2hr marathons the same pace but over 8x longer
Such a good video. Looking to break 19 next. This so inspirational. Thanks to runner and filmist!
I enjoyed this way too much! I'm rooting you on here in Rhode Island USA like it's live LOL! Keep up the great and inspiring work Nick. You've gained a sub.
GREAT RUN!!
One of the best race footages I’ve ever seen, truly inspiring. I currently run a 22min 5k and this is more than inspirational and educational.
Mindset and self talk... So important on race day. Thanks for sharing what's going through your head Nick. Especially the part about that middle 3km of the race. The demons get loud then!
Pleasure mate, hope you can relate and hope it helps you going forward! 👊🏻
Oh man! I did a Battersea 5km recently (we saw you actually! running the opposite direction), missed out on my target (sub 18'30"), and those thoughts totally recognisable and for sure held me back. I need to go back and use these tips for sure. The suffering! So true.
Wow!!! Mate that was amazing!!!
I love that format : watching your race while hearing your own comments. It gives the video a kind of introspection of your feelings and it allows the viewer to corroborate your attitude with your comments.
You"ve just got a new subscriber,champ!
This race shows that you are a wise runner Nick. Congratulate. Inga DK.
Wonderful run!!! Thank you for your insight 😍 and thank you for your humble words to those of us finishing significantly behind you… we appreciate it!!
Gonna keep watching and try to get on the next level… just hit 21:58 in the 5k myself and looking forward to improving in the future👍👍
That was such a well timed pressured overtake.
You can tell the other guy morgan was really using the bounce off his shoes. I tend to do that when im getting tired and cadence slows.
Great time and a beast of an effort.
Look at ALL those beautiful souls on the perimeter working out and keeping it real too!
This is so good!!!!
Such a good video, glad I’m not alone in feeling those demons in the last 600m - fighting every fibre in your brain that’s saying “yeh, walking is fine” 👊
thank you for making it so interesting ?makes me wanna go again, (not that fast) but gives the vibes
Morgan’s striking is beautiful to watch
I like the way you narrate through the race. Really appreciate it as well as your appreciation for your competition. More of these!
Awesome 5k time. Morgan’s stride is also beautiful. Incredibly smooth run.
Got recommended your video and loved the commentary! Good intervals for comments, not overwhelming or dry. I'm your same size and weight, but take twice the time for a 5k! 6:40 is good inspiration to keep pushing
