Thank you SO much to everyone who supports this channel: the viewers, subscribers, patrons, sponsors, members... you all made it possible for me to take this trip to the UK and visit the Pi Store, the factory, and interview Eben Upton, so-thank you!

    • @nezu_cc
      @nezu_cc Před rokem +4

@@earthling_parth it was a system where anyone (aka the community) could make subtitles/CC for any video in any language if the creater enabled that. All the creator had to do was approve them once they were submitted. This not only enhances accessibility (yt autogenerated captions suck outside of a few languages google actually cares about) but also opens up the video to completely new audiences due to language barriers (again, automatic translation is shit).
For example in the V-tuber community there were entire groups dedicated to translating English content and clips to Japanese and vice versa. They still exist, but now have to re-upload the same video multiple times because they can't just simply add them to an existing video. It ruins the reach of these videos drastically.
Edit: there even was a petition that got over 500K signatures but CZcams still removed it in favour of their autogenerated crap.

Haha fun they told you about pronouncing soldering in the non-US style (as opposed to soddering) 😉. Nice setup in the store, the popup one they had in Edinburgh was similar in design.

This place is just up the road from where i live (but i didn't know it existed lol) I was so gutted when Maplin Electronics closed all it's stores here in the UK, as it was my go to place for eletronic components and nowdays have to shop on Ebay for those parts. I do have 4x Raspberry Pi's in my collection so far. I have a R/Pi Pico which i use for work on the Xbox 360 consoles, i have 2x R/Pi 3b+'s and my latest Pi is a Pi 4b 2gb for my A1200 "FrankinPi" build. The range of R/Pi's is just amazing and they are a brilliant little computer board.

Surprised red shirt Jeff didn’t make it. So they had red shirt pi there instead.
That large pcb board I really need a couple of them.

I made some Raspberry Pies in anticipation of of them being in stock once again, they were delicious, however they did not compute.
Is there a roadmap for the (highly speculated upon) RPi5?
Thanks for the pond-skipping Jeff, awesomeness!

From where i live there's literally a 4-storey mall with a bunch of shops that sells all kinds of electronics ranging from components all the way to hobbyist kits. Its pretty cool to have one here so makers can drop by and get what they need in an instant for their projects.
Across the road is another related mall that mainly hosts shops selling computer parts.

Singapore. However i doubt it's that massive compared to Shenzhen (i've seen Strange Parts' video with Linus).

We don't even have a decent computer store in the UK. It's mainly just a small amount of crappy pre built PC's shoved in amongst every other household electronic. Online is the only option if you want options.

Here in Croatia, Pi computers came back in stock liek 1-2 months ago, I was surprised as there was a heavy shortage and scalpels were insane.
Now you can find them but prices are still high

The last time I came across a shop full of raspberry pi parts was some electronics store in an alley in Akihabara in Tokyo. I wish there's something like in this video not too far away from me.

  • @Ray_of_Light62

With Marlin gone, there is no place here in the UK where we can buy electronic parts in person. Only online.
It is summer of year 2024, and Raspberry Pi are normally available to the public again. I just bought a Raspberry Pi 400 from the Raspberry online store. The sad story about scalpers may have come to an end now that the SBCs are back on sustained production, making the scalpers hoard worthless for them.
Thank you Jeff for this video.
    Greetings,
    Anthony
