The way she walked up to the computer while saying "here's a real world example" made me think she was going to show her Raspberry Pi development environment.
Hi! Great video, first of all, but the use case described in the video is more suitable to an Arduino, which works on a microcontroller, making it a really good and inexpensive option for building these automated systems, a raspberry pi however works on a microprocessor which is more powerful and is generally used to build things like servers and entertainment systems.
You could setup a Raspberry PI to detect when someone walks up to your house or knocks on the door and then it plays a loud dog barking. You could also use it to turn lights on and off at random to simulate someone at the house.
A raspberry pie is similar to the raspberry pie food except that instead of bread you have a board, instead of eating it you code it and instead of berries, you have cherries.
The prices of them were being scalped just like the Xbox and PlayStations. Never buy them from Amazon only buy from official sellers. With the Pi 5 out and capabilities with it it’s a better product and yes get it from approved resellers.
The best part is when she calls the RPi affordable, as if scalpers haven't grabbed every one and made them unavailable at MSRP. Use an ESP32 and a breakout board for small projects like the one in the video or WLED. I use a Pi for an Octoprint server and a few other things (UniFi controller, wireless print server, etc.) but they aren't needed for low power applications.
I was sad but when I hear comparison to raspberry pie I smile :) Thank You.❤ Interesting if Tiff also use it to connect to an electronics? Watching this always I learn sth new/interesting, maybe someday try raspberry pi.. hmm.. Thx.
The pi shown in the photo would more be used to make something more complex like a pet feeder that dispenses different food quantities based on the dog that's there using a camera.
All of this could be done with a arudino. The real reason raspberry pi is used is because its a Soc it can be used as home server, things which need network etc..
Arduino is a microcontroller. The Rpis are SBCs (Single board computer), not SoC (System on a chip) which always includes a video output for example, has much more CPU power, and much more RAM and is capable of running a sophisticated OS. Except for the Pi Pico, which is a microcontroller. Controllers are much simpler.
I guess one of the reason is pi was well documented a by a comunity who willing to do expirement and research work and willing to publish to the public unlike other board that are typicly use and brought by company don't have as much people willing to do such work and would want to publish their finding on the public
That example is far too simple for a raspberry pi.. just get an arduino that is 1/4 the cost and will do the same thing. You don’t need a computer to do a few minor calculations, you would just need to get an old calculator for $5 to do that task
for the task you just described, I believe using a raspberry pi is an overly engineered solution and it should be used where high computation is required, one could use an AVR for such applications.
If i would get one i wound make an mini console out of it but i already have an raspberry pi pico which is an console and an separate raspberry pi pico for conding
Okay yes but the time and energy it takes to make a treat dispenser. Also it'll be expensive compared to buying one from Amazon. If you want to do it as a project for fun it's good. Otherwise I don't think this is a compelling reason to get a raspberry pi
"raspberry pi's are really affordable online" price used to be ~75-90 for a recent model ( pi 4 with 4 or 8 gb), now often they go for 200+. Also NOBODY has 'm in stock. They get sold out in couple hours. I got mail that the shop I had notification on for it had them around 11 AM, by the time I got to it around 2 PM it was sold out. I called, 2 pallets went thru. Please promote some other compute board. No video out needed on it either.
Stocks are coming. Pi foundation has worked their asses off this last year to get production back up to full speed and have been doing so for the last months. The coming months more and more suppliers should have them in stock again without running out every time and prices are definitely going back to the old ones
They use to be affordable like 3 years ago. Not anymore. You'd be better off using an Arduino for what she's talking about. The Pi zero's are pretty inexpensive.
Describing a Raspberry Pi as inexpensive was accurate a few years ago but not now. An Arduino would be a much less expensive and easier to wire and program.
Probably the most awkward explanation ever... Most people still don't have a dog and wouldn't know how to even get started with a project like that if they had a dog. "Just write some python code" lol Any idea how many programmers even don't know python? And there are so many more interesting things one can do with a pi than a dog treat dispenser. How about setting up your own ad-blocking service that works for every device on your home network, a VPN server that allows you safe access to your private files or even your own mail server? Just some of the things that a raspberry pi can easily do and requires a lot less skill than writing your own software. And all this on the power of a USB device for around $50 (add in a couple $/year for a domain name and you're all set).
To be honest, the word “affordable” is hardly applicable to raspberry pies these days. While they used to be cheap and cool solution for a wide variety of tasks, today you wouldn’t want to buy one “just for fun and food dispenser” IMO. Besides that task with a food dispenser can be solved more effectively on a truly cheap AVR or ESP chip, raspberry pi is an overkill here I think
I interned and worked in many IT companies and no single one used a pi. Its just way too overpriced for its capabilities. It is good for beginners as it has a great community, but other singleboard computers are way cheaper/faster.
a computer the size of a small hard drive. There are alternatives such as one that uses i.b.m. compatible processor to install windows 95 with out any tweaking
For real, learn to build these yourselves with an understanding of python scripting. Don't buy the already made ones that are hundreds of dollars! Raspberry Pi can do sooo muuch stuff!! Trust me, the journey IS worth it!
Women Interested in Organic Things (Human Animal....) Men Interested in Inorganic Things (Stone Iron Wood). Yes, she uses male innovation to make things attractive to herself.
They're not really that affordable, especially for simple projects. Something like that could be handled with a less expensive, less powerful board. The images showed a raspberry pi 4 which is quite overpriced right now. If you use the raspberry pi 2 or something like that, it might make sense The raspberry pi 4 could be used as a desktop computer. Smart home controller (controlling multiple devices and cameras) or even as a web server?
I have no idea what raspberry pi was and know zero about coding, but I just went on Chat gpt and ask it to write me that code......... and it freaking did!!!! first time for me wow
The company has been on a shortage four years now. You still cannot get one unless you dish out $100 more than the $35 original price! This is one of the worst companies and I will not purchase another Raspberry pi product!
you cannot buy any raspberry pi since several years now, since corona virus. the ceo made a really bad decision: price of components went up, then he stopped production .... really bad decision, as the developers stayed more at home, and would have payed a higher price
The price rise was due to shortages in the chip market. Rarity drives prices up, but the shortage is over now and soon the pis will be fully stocked again at normal prices, I've seen the video of Pi foundation and their warehouse FULL ready to ship out - most of which should have already hit the shelves. And there's a shitload more coming.
Really affordable 😂 u know what is more affordable an Arduino nano or stm blue pill if u are not gonna run an OS why use raspberry pi in the first place.
I mean sure the Arduino is better at doing simple stuff, like the example in this video but the raspberry Pi is so much better at hosting servers and get used as a desktop.
I think Raspies were originally invented to help make computer accessible to everyone, so yes you can use them for projects like the ones you described. But also you can use them as a fully fledged PC that only costs you a fraction than a normal PC :)
The way she walked up to the computer while saying "here's a real world example" made me think she was going to show her Raspberry Pi development environment.
😂 exactly and she lift up her pc..for what? 😂
She hasn't used a raspberry pie in her life.
Hi! Arduino is not that inexpensive
@@scopestacker9787 yeah lol they are

That's not to say you *can't* use a raspberry pi for this purpose, especially if you plan on setting it up as an IoT device or something!
You could setup a Raspberry PI to detect when someone walks up to your house or knocks on the door and then it plays a loud dog barking.
You could also use it to turn lights on and off at random to simulate someone at the house.

Raspberry Pi boards are getting unreasonably expensive lately.
It's only expensive when it is available
@@gautamjhawar8577 -"they're all ways 50% off when where out of stock".

Raspberry pi is what inspired me to become a full self taught Python programmer
Seems a bit overkill for a food dispenser....

Perfect and to the point
Not affordable nor available atm bc of shortage
For this food dispenser example it would be enough with a microcontroller e.g. an Arduino, no need for a Raspberry Pi full computer board

But you can use a 2$ esp8266 to control a food dispenser. It can have a web interface and use an atomic clock. So no rpis aren't for that.
Thank you! Finally someone that knows stuff 😂
yea this is not a great description, it's not really specific to anything about the pi
where can you find that price. I cant find any that cheap
for the task you just described, I believe using a raspberry pi is an overly engineered solution and it should be used where high computation is required, one could use an AVR for such applications.

I always use raspberry pi to measure vibration in Hz, humidity, temperature etc. It so challenging.

96$ for a Pi 5 is cheap. Lmaoo. Treat Dispenser with a PI seems like overkill though seeing how you can actually use the Pi to code that Py script

RPi and affordable no longer belong in the same sentence. What you're looking for is a single board computer. There are many options other than RPi
There's a whole range now, from $2 to $400. RPis are now part of the selection you can make.
