Saucony Endorphin Speed 4 Review: Just One ISSUE Otherwise 10/10!

- In today's video I review the new Saucony endorphin speed 4. This incredibly versatile daily training is back with the best version yet in my opinion. Improved grip and responsiveness but there's one thing thats hard to see past with this one and that is price point. Other than that, if your looking for an allrounder its hard to see past a speed, just maybe pick up the 3?

Props for calling out the insane price
The US equivalent price of £134 plus 20% vat is near enough £160. Charging an extra £20 is blatant profiteering. US prices are stated before sales tax as it varies by state.
@@garthcox4 Bang on. They are mugging us off in UK
I managed to get a pair delivered for £125 from Wiggle. Just about ok with that and well done Wiggle with 30% on the whole Endorphin range early (it’s off again now).
Great review cheers
@@cpandsooz Isn't that's because wiggle is going through administration ?
@@macewindex564 yes I didn’t know till reading one other reply on this same review. They were only reduced for about a week.
CZcams experience is better with Ben. Don’t ever get injured again 😂
100% agreed about all of this . Good video! Love the straigh to the point-ness and the actual test distance to be decent !
this video came just in time!!
would love to see you do a video about your newest rotation ben :)
I really love all of your "follow along" videos helps me get those extra edge of strength in running. I hope to see more of those. Also if you're going to do more "follow along" video no need for cuts or edits on the break segments of the session just leave it raw video. I find it very convenient to just follow along with those breaks and not to pause the video every so often.
Thank you so much for your videos !
Thanks for your review wow this price is definitely high, when I lived in Uk the shoes were generally more expensive than in USA but this one is too high. In my opinion speed 3 is on sale now and it’s still great shoes for daily training! 🙂
Good video, it is narrow, I am getting the Speed 3 Wide at discount price, picking it up tomorrow, see how it goes.
Appreciate the mention of the price - most CZcamsrs that got it for free don’t bother calling that out as it doesn’t affect them. The RRP for the 3 was £160 so a £20 hike is mad given how little they’ve changed. The 3 is my favourite shoe though so I’m still likely to end up being a sucker and grabbing these once my 3s wear out.
most running shops will give 10% off
@@MikeSmith-rd9fiso you're still losing
but its a better shoe.@@nickowen5310
Speed 2 was 150 only 2 years ago too! 🤯
Thinking of getting and using these for my first half marathon
Great review. I'm still crushing miles in the 2 pairs of Endorphin Speed 2s that I have in rotation. I was thinking about trying to catch the ES3 on potential upcoming sales, but will likely skip that generation and grab a pair of ES4 instead.
I much prefer the 2's to the 3's. A little disappointed that the 4's seem to be similar to the 3's according to Ben.
Haven't tried yet but I totally agree with you about this main issue with price point and so it's the reason to wait for the price become lower as I use to do with all my running shoes. In Europe it's 200 euro price. Way too expensive.
Greetings from Valencia city
Got the black pair too. They are bangers. Was mourning retiring my 2s, loving these as much. Top review Ben, thanks.
As I understood it the Speed range is intended as a tempo/efforts session shoe, it's just the user-base that's taken it on as a daily, particularly since the 3 was more accessible & less aggressive than 1or2. Happy to stand corrected
Can't wait to see your review of the Pro 4. I've got a pair of the Speed 3 and really don't like them but the Pro 3 is incredible and I've got 3 pairs now 😂
I have both and the pro 3 is an amazing shoe. The speed 3 was dreadful 🤣
Is this a daily trainer? I thought it was classified as a tempo shoe that’s very versatile, or at least it used to be.
just ordered a pair in the orange cant wait to go out in them
just ordered my orange ones today. how do you like them?
With you on the looking good feeling good.
I'm still using the Speed 2's as my daily trainer. They are my absolute favorite 👟👟!
Will have to try, I have 2s and 3s
You are bang on ben! 180 is some price hike. I picked up the boston 12 for under 130 and its a far better shoe in my opinion! Great review as always!
Thanks, think i'll get the boston 12 too
Really Boston 12 is better? I’m considering buy one of them, but I don’t know if ES4 or B12!
I love my 4’s. Set my PB in the half marathon with them.
Finally people are saying what I have for the last 2 years Saucony shoes just got too expensive too quickly, I have heard every excuse to why this is, but put simply it is greed, all aspects of running seem to be on the band wagon, I could not believe the running show earlier this year, prices where / are way outside realistic, IMO. On a positive note good to see you back Ben
The issue here is that the shoe, like many is way more expensive in the UK than elsewhere. The price point in the US is reasonable, in line with what it's been for years and competitors in the market. it's the UK price that is excessive.
Totally agree on price. I picked up a pair of 3’s at 130 and thought it was a great price and shoe. 180 is pushing their luck really I think
Great Video as always Ben 🙌
I’m using the Boston 12 now as a faster Trainer for Tempo/Fartleks/Long Intervalls and it’s super great. Do you think the speed 4 would be a good option for easier Miles around 4:40-4:10? I’m looking for something that lets me aktivly recover from the workouts and the Boston 12 feels too energetic and keeps me on the forefoot😂 I need something to roll a bit more smoothly than punching me along.
Thank you 😊
I only bought these once I got 10% discount from them, then they were the correct price in my opinion too.
But, they are a great shoe, think I'm 50 miles in too and they suit my mid pack speed perfectly.
I had a couple pair of the 3
s and version 1 use them for most of my runs
That price point is a little strange. Thanks for the video!
I have a wide foot. I already ordered mine...now I'm nervous
Yeah it looks so much better than the previous versions
I was wondering if the high prices on shoes in the UK recently is something tax related? Shoes from Europe seem to be ok (Adidas/puma etc.) Yet shoes from further afield (Saucony, Asics etc.) Have a large discrepancy in pricing here compared to elsewhere. Just a thought...
I just got mine last week and ran a 4 mile race in them. Love the shoes. Two things I noticed. They are a little loud cause of the treads. And they run big. All my running shoes are 12.5 or 13. I bought these in 13 and the heel slips a tad. May exchange them for a 12.5.
Try to change the laces , better with no flexibel laces 😊
About the price, I agree that the upward creep of shoes are a problem across the board. That said, you often tout On shoes which I think are always overpriced compared to other comparable shoes. Both the On Cloud Monster 2 and the On Cloud Eclipse are both $180 and they compete directly with the Asics Gel Nimbus 26 at $160 and the New Balance More v4 at $150 in the US.
It’s a great shoe but imho the best Saucony everyday shoe is the triumph 20/21 and the speed 3/4 for tempo, intervals etc
Thanks for the review, Ben. You say "pick up a [Speed] 2 or 3 somewhere" instead of spending all that cash on a pair of 4's, but I have not been able to find any in my size. Where would I go to buy a new pair of Endorphins Speed 2? I absolutely love that shoe.
It seems like the 1/2/3s are completely sold out everywhere pushing their price upto the same as the new 4s, but much harder to find in your size
Did not realise we wear the same size shoe - you should do some givaways of test shoes a-la SJD ;-) Glad to see you back, looking forward to seeing your build up to Copenhagen!
When you say you went true to size.. is it the same size as your non running shoes?
Picked up the Speed 4 from Wiggle for £125, and absolutely love them!! 😊 Wiggle is in administration and was clearing stock. RRP is definitely too expensive, they will probably slowly drop the price over the year.
Spoooky I just said the same before seeing this. Will done Wiggle, sad to see them going though 🥲🤗
How's the stability and does it need a specific foot strike or landing to activate the speed roll?
I’d love to hear what your thoughts are on the pro version of this shoe.
good trainer , try the new balance rebel 4
i found the speed 2 more responsivre than my speed 3 so im hoping the speed 4 will be more like the speed 2 was but with better grip
me too!! Got version 2 as well held off on the 3 because of so many mixed reviews. Hopefully the speed 4 is better.
They are £150 here in Australia 🇦🇺
For once we get better value! 🇦🇺
I tried theses just over the weekend. I'm a neutral runner and I absolutely loved the first gen and have the 3 releases in the white mutant ( Pro, speed and shift ). These however don't have a good toe box for me and my inner big toes really rub on the inner side of the shoes... I think if I bought a pair, my toes would be through the front in no time sadly
Thanks for sharing!
Would you recommend this or the adidas Boston 12 ?
Hi Ben, need some help. Looking for a trainer that I can use for 5k training - so 1km*5 repeats etc… as well as when running the 5k itself. Would like to go purely for time and decreasing that, any recommendations?
What are your thoughts on long term durability? My Speed 3’s disintegrated at a rate not seen with similar shoes (including the previous versions).
How does the ES4 compare against Adidas Boston 12? Which do you prefer and why?
X2
Any word on whether Saucony is making a version of this in a wider fit, like they did with the 3?
Is this better than Adidas Boston 12? Puma Deviate Nitro 2 and Velocity 3? have you tried this on hills? for uphill sprints and uneven roads.
I want to know the answer?
I bought the speed 3 the other week. For some reason i now have a calf injury. Did a 16 miler in it today - Now very uncomfortable!
Better than the ASIC super blast?
Would you prefer the speed 4 or boston 12 for an all round trainer?
Is it still as narrow in the midfoot as the version 3?
Like you say £180 is just too much for a daily. I've really enjoyed the 2's and 3's but will not buy these until they drop in price
What 3 daily trainers would you recommend for someone wanting a versatile shoe for speed and distance anywhere from 8-13miles ?
Opinion on Endorphin Speed 4 or New Balance FuelCell v4 for marathon training?
You can do a straight conversion to dollars. I believe their prices don't include taxes.
Correct taxes are not included in prices in the US. Taxes are state dependent.
Hmm. I never considered the Speed as a daily trainer. I always thought of them as a shoe you'd use for tempo or interval sessions. I know some of the plated shoes tend to hit the fascia and other muscles a bit differently. Part of me would wonder if I'd get injured making this a daily trainer. I am definitely interested in the shoe though. I absolutely love the Pro 2s. Love your honest review and keep running Ben!
FYI the team vaga code doesn't work on items already on sale
Saucony having a laugh with the prices. They pulled some funny price antics with the speed 3 as well I remember, the price went up about £10 or £20 in the middle of its life cycle. Think it's time to move back to Adidas, their best shoes are always discounted somewhere
They are worth 290 AUD here in Australia. Which is £149.50. So there is something fishy going on.
Please suggest me which colour looks best?
The black is my favourite over the orange
Just get the Magic Speed 3? Less bounce from the foam, but it’s priced better and has a carbon plate.
Great shoe, little more race day but less RRP madness. I’ve got both and them, trainers are getting so good these days!
If you mean the Endorphin Speed 3, it only has a nylon plate, not carbon.
@@TheRunBlog I don’t. I mean the ASICS Magic Speed 3. 10g-20g lighter than the Speed 4 and 3 respectively and with a Carbon Plate.
Thanks for your help.
@@lfcamerican4366 No worries 👍 How much does that cost?
@@TheRunBlog that’s the best part, $160. $60 cheaper than the Endorphin Pro and $10 cheaper than the Speed.
How do they fit? Wide option? Thanks
Slightly narrow but not an issue for me personally. Similar fit to the previous speed 3
$289 AUD here which is 148 GB pounds. About what I'd expect to pay.
They are quite slim shoes
Bro it’s not a “basic” daily trainer lol. It has a premium racing foam and a nylon plate.
But I digress, the pricing thing in your country is strange. It’s right at the market standard here in the US. Maybe saucony dropped the ball on that one.
I thought speed 3 was rather roomy. Especially compared to speed 1 n 2. From reviews i take it that Speed 4 is more on the narrow side. Unfortunately for me.
When Saucony can keep the price of an improved Endo Pro 4 the same, but jacks up the price so much for the cultish Endo Speed, you know it’s purely a cash grab. Disappointing for sure. Like in the UK, in Oz the Speed has had a 12% price increase compared to 6% increase in the US.
I think i will skip this version... I prefer the Pro 4 instead!!
Saucony are taking the absolute p1ss with that price tag
Funny you think it feels similar to the Speed 3. Right now all the reviews are “it is sooooo much better” people seem to forget how positive they were on the Speed 3 when it first came out.
Same with the Mach 6 and Mach 5… “the Mach 6 is so much better than the boring Mach 5” 😂
He is right , feels very similar to speed 3 , Speed 1+2 are much more popy and the plate is a bit different
Dont why ben never bothered replying..

First!
The price is too much and the heal counter rubs on my Achilles.
I honestly think it's such an ugly shoe.
Looks like a cheap shoe from the early 00s.
How many pairs of trainers do you train with?
