  • @actualsurfer

    That is most likely an inexpensive reamer and its good you got great results...However...
    There is a better way to use it. The typical method is to adjust it so it is slightly too small, take a pass, then increase the diameter and the cut slowly. In your case maybe 7-10 passes or more to do a 1/8" cut. You creep up on the press fit tolerances that you need. The result will be very round holes with uniform and parallel sides.
    Your reamer will also last a lot longer too.

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW  Před 2 lety +2

      Yes. this adjustable reamer was pretty cheap compared to something pro level. This was definitely my first time venturing into something like this and was pretty happy with the results considering. That is some good info there and 100% correct on making multiple passes... live and learn my friend.

      @actualsurfer Před 2 lety +1

      @@JWClassicVW Thank you for putting yourself out there with a great subject and successful channel.
      It is not easy to do and takes great effort. Keep going, we are all learning from the work you are doing.
      I learned to use a reamer on bicycle seat tubes. I build custom bicycle frames and after welding the seat tube where the seat post enters, it is not to size and loses its roundness so you have to open it up again. Its a high precision operation to +- 0.02".
      Another tip with the reamer is to be very careful when adjusting or when disassembling them for cleaning. The blades are high carbon steel and very brittle. If you drop one, chances are it will break...ask me how I know! So adjustments should be 1/8 turn at a time.

    Just got a 4” narrowed beam I haven’t done this before can I use the same stock trilling control arms with my 4” beam ? Like I say in new to do this I also get a pair of 2” 1/2 drop spindles somebody tell me don’t to install those cause the bug will be on the floor so I think I will just install the beam mistakes jajajaja hope this turns up well

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW  Před 3 lety +1

      Hey brother thanks for the question... and as for using your stock torsion arms, YES! Great question to, I'm sure lot's of people have that one. As for the drop spindles, you can use those to, even if your new beam isn't adjustable. The reason why people narrow the beam is to fit the tires under the fenders when using drop spindles.

    • @JWClassicVW
