    Hi Jason, well put the case together but after final torque on main nuts crank won't turn? I watched Gary's build and when he got to that point just snugging the nuts down he could turn it using the conrods so he grabbed the pulley and got it turning then full torque still turned but with the pulley. Guess I need to try that tomorrow. The aircraft sealant I used doesn't cure for 24hrs so I think I'm OK leaving the case without the main nut off.

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW Před 15 dny

      The crank and cam should spin freely at final torque. If it's not spinning freely, it could be a number of things. 1st if the case wasn't turned for new bearing then you may be pinching the bearing on the crank. This can also happen if a bearing set dowel isn't seated properly or the crank wasn't seated all the way.

    • @TimsWorkshopTJY
      @TimsWorkshopTJY Před 14 dny

      Alls good, with the pulley was able to turn the crank by hand all the way through final torque on the m12 and m8 nuts/bolts less the oil pump area. I have the new gasket set on order from jbugs. Thanks for responded back. Oh after this one my next project motor will be a old 90hp corvair. Probably next year before I get to it

    What setting is best in the feeler guage for a new 2161 stroker,…and for an old 1600 stock engine? Thanks

    • @JWClassicVW
      @JWClassicVW Před 16 dny

      @tomasalvarez6040 The only real difference between setting valve lash is the pushrod type. If they are Chromoly, then as close to 0 lash is best. With aluminum stock pushrods I've always set intake and exhaust to .006. If you know the cam type you have, it would be best to look up the manufacturer recommend valve lash for intake and exhaust.

    Hello, Great video. I have a couple of questions for you if you don’t mind: What jets and air correction were you running with this motor? You were one of the only guys that had a very similar motor to mine. I am running 2276 with 9.5:1 compression CB Performance ported big valve wedge port heads, FK45 cam, 1.4 ratio rocker. I cannot get this car to run correctly. Either it runs like a bat out of hell but runs hot or it runs like shit with no power but cooler. I have gone between 55 idles all the way up to 70’s. I have ran 140 main all the way up to 160’s. My air are 200. I have adjusted my floats anywhere from 4.25mm up to 10mm. I cannot find the correct combination. When I did a similar driving test to this video, I got these temps. It was a 100F outside. I did that on purpose Driver side manifold- 190 Passenger side manifold- 150 Both cylinder heads- 353 Engine block- 235 Dip stick- 179 Oil temp gauge in the car-230 Oil pressure gauge in the car at idle-5-10lbs. Oil pressure while driving around 3000rpm- 30-40lbs From cold to about 210, the car idles perfectly right at 1000rpm. Once it get over 210, the idle drops to around 700rom. That is when my pressure goes below 10 and my stock green oil comes on. Once I give it gas it goes right out. My care is full flowed. I have the Gene Berge type 4 stock oil cooler plus an external oil cooler mounted above my transaxle with a fan set for 180. I am running VR1 straight 30 Why is my oil getting so hot, but yet my heads are so cool? What is the driver side manifold 40 degrees hotter than the passenger manifold? I talk to Mark at CB and he tells me one thing. Then I talked to Garry at Gene Berg and he tells me almost the exact opposite. So lost, confused and now totally frustrated. I am working on this thing more than driving it. I am losing my passion quickly. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated Take care, John

    Got an update on my project 40hp engine. Starting to rebuild it and got the new conrod bearings installed and torqued to the crank shaft. Got new lifters and crank bearings jugs and pistons from aaperformance. after reading up on these engines the tolerances were so tight, and they put these case halves together without sealant and the jugs without gaskets. Was confused by understand why when rebuilding these to use the sealant and gaskets which come in the new gasket kit. So, need to order the kit here soon to continue building it. I think it will run pretty good for an old 65 40hp with stock stuff back in it.
