- A Stick of Time brings us some of those much needed flashbacks that start explaining the man behind the Toranaga legacy. It is a brutal episode that left me stunned. On re-watch, I think I know why!

his blood in the water reflects a crimson sky
Oh, I love this!
16:20 I’m so glad you discussed this conversation. I think it’s one of the biggest of the episode. (Some other channels just glossed over it or not at all, btw). I agree 100% that Toranaga has planned this all out and remains in control, but in stealth mode😉, ….and the brothel madam has figured it out.
My husband and I were both like "that's a clever whore!" ❤
i think this was a rly important moment shadowing the crimson skies
Absolutely! This felt like the most important people finally getting a chance to talk. I'm glad that on review it had additional depth. She must be more than just a tea house mistress, just listen to her voice! LOL
@@HaxDogmathere is not such thing as just a tea house mistress, they are always the place real power and information is traded
You have the best breakdowns with The Shogunate, but your videos are more elaborated, I really appreeciate them.
In the official podcast they said, that this throwing a stone on the gate was something that someone from the crew used to do as a child, and they loved the idea, so they let Toranaga do it for good luck. So it's not a general custom, just a private custom of one person.
Oh such a great note!!
Cheesy to say aloud but im so glad you're back Hax and covering this show!
Best theories so far thanks
Heck yeah! Let's gooooo!
Favorite part of the episode was the way Buntaro’s mouth twitched in anger when the Anjin missed his mouth while eating
See, this is why it pays to check out more than one breakdown. Thanks for clearing up what Toranaga was doing at the torii gate. Even after multiple viewings, I couldn't make it out. The show takes a lot for granted.
Thanks for being here friend 😁
I love your breakdowns. Makes me see the show so clear!
Thanks buddy, glad you are enjoying the show :D
The point where the 2 lords meet and Toranaga 'surrenders'. The birdseye view of the meetup 22:48 timestamp; Toranaga's forces are arrayed like wings abreast from their lord in the centre.
BLOOD IS THICKER THAN WATER........I pretty much agree with your theory...Remember When Toranaga's brother caught Yuki and Omi talking 💩 about him in the Hot Springs? He said something that Stuck out to me on the second watch. He said Toranaga is still Family. Like he was reminding his Nephew he hasn't forgot that.Yoshi should of picked up on what he was saying he may still be Breathing if he did. Toranaga brother wasnt even upset about his nephew talking 💩. Something about how he said that makes me believe hes not Betraying Toranaga, and Toranaga might not even know his brother is being a double agent in his favor YET. Because its odd to be betraying family then turn around and say " Me and your Dad has had our differences, but hes still Family" Implying there is no justification for what he is doing. Usually the character will go on about how he had to live in Toranaga's shadow while Tora gets all the glory, praise and respect. They almost always explain why on television. Their culture is all about Honor and what hes doing is so 🐍 like ,you would think there would be one moment of him actually showing some hint of shame in what hes doing, if he was really doing it. I didnt see any shame, in his game. I believe its because he has nothing to be ashamed about.
Love your videos! Keep em coming!
Thanks Chew, always glad to see your comments
Your theory in the half brother being a secret ally of Toronaga is a wild one, I think he genuingly betrayed him, he doesnt seem like a smart sophisticated man. In scene with Toronaga and Gin, Gin says that its not smart to leave an army in the open because spys are everywhere, insinuating that Toronaga's army is secretly larger. He surely may have made more allies around Japan that disagrees with Ishidos machinations.
Mariko kind of annoyed me this episode because I thought her finding out her father saved her so she could fight later and avenge her family. I thought that would light a fire under her but it didnt, she still wants to die...😞
i almost choke laughing when Abocado dies slipping with Saeki's robe. there u have your glorious death XD
Abocado is the funniest version of this name XD
@@HaxDogma i did not see the other miniseries or the book but in this show i think he was the comedic relief
i like the way your mind works , have a new sub
Commenting for the algorithm. And because I love your content. ❤
Love your comments, friend!
Great theories. I also don't think Toranoga is confident in his long game and needs his half brother "helping him" reach Osaka and the hostages. I think Mariko will have a role in freeing the hostages with her selfless sacrifice. If this goes by other true historical events, Toranoga will battle his half brother and win the fight when spies stumble upon their enemies position and they surround their enemies. Sounds epic, to me!
Yes, with his vassals ready to crack or kill each other. This can go any number of ways. Toranoga needs to land one of those rocks.
For the algorithm gods
Hope you are doing well, pretty sure I subscribed like six years ago... Do not know why I just had to resubscribe, but I'm glad to see your name in front of me again :D
Couldn't watch this episode Tuesday...or Wednesday...or YESTERDAY lol...
Finally finished it, and I stress FINALLY, because of course another interruption (and ironically fitting), the Earthquake in NYC around 1030am...got all the calls and texts and I had to send out my John Tenta/Canadian Earthquake pic 😂😂
Anyway, that said, as SOON as I finished this episode, I said 2 things:
OUR Lord ain't going out like this;
And
Lemme finally get on this Hax Dogma recap and breakdown FFS!!
Here is that backstory you(we've) been waiting for!
Wooooo!
There is no ned stark moment in a mini series with just 10 episodes. There wont be a second season.
Yeah but the original story was written in 1975, ya know?
i wonder how they handle pregnacy. Saeki cones in her, so are they timing the ovulation cycle or how do they manage that
I did not think they were going to dive into this truthfully, but they could!
I’ll be back to comment on the weekend. I watch the show Friday nights.
Heck yeah Mark, let me know what you think!
@@HaxDogmaI loved this episode. There was this level of stress and tension that permeated the whole episode. I do think the meeting with Gin was a clue that Toranaga is still in control.
Mama-san is on point. WTF was Naga thinking? Idiot. Not from the novel, and a very strange addition in my opinion.
You left out the pigeons he kept hidden for messaging ? And that’s why his half brother was sad when naga died
Please go into a little more detail here, I'm not sure what you mean :D
a cho is amount of land need to support a Samurai i think
Lord Ghee, I'm telling everybody else this from now on. Hope you're right XD
@@HaxDogma according to wiki, a cho of land is about 2.5 acres.
only because you asked the Naginata is pronounced Nag-ee-nat-a with no syllable emphasized
Duly noted!!
This comment is for the almighty algorithm 👊
Praised be! The 'rithm shall bless us on this day!

13:22 Okay, "Ob-fusk-u-tated" rather than "Obfuscated" (Ob-Fu-Skated), now I *know* you're just mispronouncing words to fuck with us. Well played sir, well played. If not, I kinda want to know how you pronounce tomato, honestly.
Nag-in-ata. Like "Nahg-in-ata", stress on the "in".
just to add a little thing is not Uzi (like the weapon) is Izu like on issue
I would never mispronounce words to increase engagement. That would require us living in a culture that gets off on correcting people over sharing ideas and conversation. Surely that isn't happen ;)
@@HaxDogma heheh dont worries keep the videos coming there are always amazing this time of comments are for "self improvment" (?)
Oh yeah this wasn’t targeted at you namen, sorry! Haha
Chemputer is a fan of the channel, and I was just poking them 😋😋 I do not mind being corrected on pronunciation. Most of these are words I have not heard said aloud before!
@@HaxDogmano issue also a fan and i know that the best way to call for the attention of someone on the internet is to misspell something (is like a brain compiling error)
