You could avoid the milk hitting the side of the mug 1:16 by tilting it less. Sure it's not as good I agree but it's do-able.

Yes ! If you don't have an espresso machine you can use a Hand frothing wand or a bodum frother. I already have a Hand frothing wand video online and the bodum one is coming out soon !
