    I once read a study about how people preferred the flavor of coffee in a white cup more than in a black cup. I don't know if that's really true, but I do know the mind has a way of playing tricks on your senses.

      That’s for sure. Also colors like yellow are perceived as sweeter. But I just like the black cups haha.

    La Fermiere yogurt containers make good espresso cups.. The company even encourages their use in cooking and drinkware. Microwavable clay, oven safe to 400°.

    this monty is my only cup, at about 3:50 of the video you mentioned because this cup is deeper, its easier to lose contrast on the "outer ring". I am pretty new to latte art and currently experiencing this problem, how do I fix this? do I pour slower or faster? Many thanks

    Thoughts on the acme cups that every coffee shop seems to have? I've been meaning to pick up some new cups/ wider demitasse.

    • @_Brewn
      @_Brewn Před 4 lety

      i first bought montys and then switched to acme cups, the montys for everyday are too expensive and i dont want to put them in the dishwasher... idk why but it feels not safe :D they to "fingerprinty" and i dont like the mouthfeel of the cups, cant tell why but even latte art is way harder in montys than in acme cups (havent tryed the NN yet, but those areoptical not pleasing to me :( )

    • @MrCakers
      @MrCakers Před 4 lety +1

      Most shops use ACME or notNeutral cups from my experience. People like popularity. The lino from NN is really nice though.

    • @Sprometheus
      @Sprometheus  Před 4 lety

      Acme seems to be a pretty good choice. I’ve never poured into them, but I’ve had drinks in them and they seem pretty similar to the notNeutral in terms of the dynamics and shape. They do come in more colors too.

      @@Sprometheus My favorite mug is a big toilet bowl mug that I got as a gift from a friend. I only pull it out as a gag to serve someone a very disturbing looking beverage in, but it makes me smile every time I see it. If you have a chance to pick one up, the novelty is entirely worth it, and the laughs don't end.

    • @SafwanBN
      @SafwanBN Před 4 lety +1

      I came from similar-sized acme cups (around 190ml/6.5oz) before switching to the fellows for my home use. The acme has a wider opening (top?) so it's easier to practice latte art on, especially for beginners but it's shallower and chances are, you'll get less definition in your final latte art especially if your initial pour height is off. These fellow cups are much more forgiving in that respect. You do have to adjust to a much smaller opening but it's not something you won't get used to eventually.
      Latte art aside, these fellows keep your coffee hotter longer compared to the acmes because it doesn't lose as much heat to the outer surface. On the minus side, the fellows don't have matching saucers to protect against spills so you'll probably need to get some coasters or those mini trays to go along with them if you're serving coffee to guests or friends (or at a cafe).

  • @sluive3228
    @sluive3228 Před 4 lety +7

    quick question:
    Is pouring Latte-Art from an Erlenmeyer-Flask still art or science?
    Just using this piece of glassware (wideneck) since I haven't bought any specific Latte Art pouring vessel yet.
    Pouring feels pretty sweet, the flow control could not be better.

    • @Sprometheus
      @Sprometheus  Před 4 lety +2

      Sluive I’d argue that latte art is both an art and a science. If you’re getting good results why change it?

      Mwilson4040 for sure! How much control do you really want. Think realistically. Do you want and need to have pre-infusion and lots of adjustment. Or do you want a machine that will just be consistently good doesn’t allow you those controls. Picture yourself day to day. What's your take on entry level espresso gear like the gaggia classic, rancilio silvia, etc. is it worth starting on machines like this or is that just a waste of money better spent at a cafe while saving up for something a bit more "prosumer"

    • @Sprometheus
      @Sprometheus  Před 4 lety

      Mihir G thank you I appreciate that!
      I think we all have to start somewhere and they are great for learning the basics and seeing if you really want to take espresso as a hobby. But they won’t last you too long, and you may likely outgrow what they can do relatively quickly. All depends on your budget and how much you’re ready to put down on something prosumer. As you know they are definitely and investment.
