Please consider doing a 7age 1.8
Definitely do a vid on the test n tune for sure. Keep up great content 👍
Do NA. MAKE IT SCREAM. There's all ready too many turbo builds on CZcams, and not too many high power NA builds.
I got so excited when you said you were going to chuck some cams and springs in there! I always think if you're going to do a tear down and freshen up ya might as well pay a little extra and throw in a few goodies!
"Google something with ya brain engaged" By far one of the best quotes in the motoring world
in any world for that matter
I like it when you guys bring John on, great to see an expert show his craft.
I can't see Al but heard "his" voice that said they shouldn't use a turbo which leads me to suspect that Al has been kidnapped and been replaced with an impostor. Bring back Al!
RoboYoda
Yeah, they don't call him Natural Aspiration Yoda
No it's just turbo "but not for free" yoda
Al Lied!
Hence the name of his business - Allied Performance!
He didn't wanna touch the MR2, hence NA was the way. :D
Yoda has entered his third and final phase: Wise mentor.
Al, Woody, Marty... Salute to all
@geheimschriver that's just a bracket.
Wrong Yoda here.
Legend has it that Al has downloaded himself to the net, and now has take over his Doppler ganger. Now Al's every where and nowhere at the same time. Spooky
As an experienced vapour blaster (have exactly the same machine) you will need to pull those throttle bodies apart, I guarantee there will be media inside everywhere. Also always best to remove any ferrous parts as they will now rust as you have removed the protective coating.
"Local workshop owner, not a Laundromat" - never gets old.
I'm all for N/A Screaming goodness
“Non mulleted mans Pontiac Fiero” Classic
“I say send it, but if I ruin a motor...”
I know that feeling.
Can't beat an Al's narration
I think Woody saw some vapor blasting action on Project Binky.
Block "sold to guy with the screaming chicken tattoo" 😂 New addition to Johnny's 4A parts collection 👍
Vapor will pack those beads in so tight water will not dislodge them, you need to poke with a wire rod or whatever. Taping the casting with a hammer will help too. I did mine on a stainless bench top, and freaked out how much comes out...and keeps coming out. After about 7 cleans i felt about 90% confident.
As i work on cylinder heads and glass beed sand blaster every day i would definitely be pulling that throttle body apart. Glass beed is bad news if it gets in the engine
I really love that Al is now narating the videos, i hope you keep it for the whole MR2 series! 😂😂
It's because woody is leaving soon, incase you haven't noticed all the hints through the last few vids
Fred Bassett how do you know he is leaving
Dont forget the budget backside of the valve polishing. We always polish the back side mounted in the drill press, lathe or even drill. Just tape up the area where the guide runs.
man seeing the parts getting cleaned in the dishwasher and the vapour blaster soothes my soul. also big ups for John and "howyagoin", one of my favourite phrases that.
I've seen vapour blasting on motorcycle parts and it just looks awesome. I hope woody gives that engine bay some cleaning and painting to make those parts pop. That car has such cool lines, I wish we had them here in Brazil.
The level of your detail and measuring to an old toyota motor is just insane. The old Japanese Toyota motor company builders are probably bowing to your commitment as we speak. Absolutely thrilling to watch though. Thumbs up.
You need to play the song "Running in the 90s" while working on a 4age for more hp.
Listening to eurobeat while driving gives you a 50hp increase.
Best comment of the day, Bunta would proud👍
If no boost, make it rev. Beyond S2000 revs....
Al's 'Google with ya brain switched on' is priceless advice for Every topic.
Wow, I'm really impressed with the vapor blasting - the finish is awesome!!
YAY FOR JOHN!
I also think this build should be called "Woody can do that" Because that seems to be what Al is saying for all jobs.
Watch out for oil pump casting of the TDC mark, there is difference between ST and BT. The sprocket is different between each.
Zero to 60 is a great channel, well worth a look
johns ute is sweet. cant wait to see it moving.
I love the Kx 500 in the background, what a machine
Great to see John again. It's such an art to measure all those tolerances and it's super cool to see him in action.
Oohhh vapour blast. I could watch it all day.
Absolutely love it guys. These video's just get better and better. Common sense and no bullshit!
Didn't think I'd like this AW11 series, but now I'm hanging out for next vid. Keen to hear it running!
i love the fixed head on the vapour blaster! im going to rig up a holder for my bead blaster like that! closest thing I've done is cable tie the trigger so i don't have to hold it down for hours hahaha
Full force are the go to for suspension on the bikes, andrew was great to deal with when i bought my bike off him and a few months later built my suspension
Everything is coming up Milhouse!
Enjoying the build. I've got a silvertop I've been working on for the past year or so, to stuff into an aw11. I fell into the rabbit hole when I found some missing material in the cylinder bore that required an overbore. So if you guys need some pistons, rods, or cam shims, let me know.
I worked at Southside cylinder heads down here in Brisbane for a time. We vapor blasted almost every head that we did. To get the media out I would use the hose in the blasted to get the majority out and then take it to a dunk take where I would dunk it 20-30 times. After that I would run it through the hot wash and blow it off making sure to blow out all the oil channels, bolt holes and water jackets. The water jackets will be the hardest place to get the sand out of as it is cast and the sand likes to stick in the corners, so I would just make sure your really throughout with the air gun getting it right down in there.
The days with new Skid factory videos are my favourite days!
Al n Woody, Woody n Al, thanks for getting us through this, cheers.....
One of your best eps I reckon. Love the different locations. Really love whrn John is on the show, something cool about watching a very calm expert. Felt like a bit of a journey, really liked this one and loving the build.
Great episode! Good to see a mixture of Al and Woody in front of the camera, and also good to see input from John and zeroto60
G'day from West Australia,
Guy's 😉
Love the trip down memory lane. Nothing like 4 throttle body's singing a song behind one's head.
Somehow a feeling of being one with the car.
An interconnectedness of what to expect from car manners, or lack thereof if it's an animal😉🙂👍👍
Hope everyone is playing along with their 4AGE on the bench.
Rebuilding one myself at the moment too. 😀
Awesome work. I clean my old Stromberg carbs with the water blaster, they come up new.
I'm loving this roll reversal guys! It's awesome to see how far everyone has come on this whole You Tube thing. I've just finished rewatching the MCM MX5 turbo build, and I'm half way through the Super Gramps build back at the AM auto shop and to see Al go from quiet infront of the camera to being the camera guy doing the voice overs is very cool and Woody going from being behind the camera to this is great stuff. Love it!
Good stuff guys! Can't wait to hear those throttles sing!
Balancing the crank ? You boys brighten up the UK ! Keep doing what you’re doing ✌️👍🇬🇧🍻
It's quarter to 3 in the morning, just about to finally go to bed, when I get a notification... Looks like I'll be up for half an hour yet!
2 handshakes with the vapour blast bloke at the end there, very Aussie
You guys have inspired me to start a project car, got myself a clean zl fairlane and a barra conversion to play with. Thanks woody and al
Super cool JDM stuff, Y0! I know Al hates em, but this is what i love and when i watch.
AW11s are my absolute favourite so I'm so glad to see you guys doing this project - when MCM hinted about their MR2 I was excited until I found it it was a MkII. This thing is going to be sweet - kudos!
John’s drag car is sweet. You can tell that’s the most precisely assembled car on the planet just by looking at it
Love the budget approach on this build. Seems attainable somewhat.
Love ya work fellas, Thank You for continuing to post such informative and fun videos 👍👌👍👌👍😁😁
Keep the great content coming!
Thought I needed glasses too Al, until I realized it was my arms getting shorter...
This can be double checked by the fact the ground is getting harder to reach when bending down to scrabble things Ive dropped
Love this channel. All done from the home sheds
Great video as always dudes!
Great video. The engine parts washer was good. Liked the comment about it walking off down the street 😂👍
John's man cave has better acoustics than 99% of popular youtubers.
Wow that vapour blaster is beast mode
Another beaut video fella. Wicked ute too John . All info is straight to the point and love the humour . Yeah let the tubes sing great call with the cams also
Man love this series, keep the content coming!
Been subbed to 0-60 for a while now. Their new salvage Supercharged M5 series is well worth the watch!
Thanks man! We are moving sheds at the mo, so haven't had a chance to film any more on it since that last vid. Hopefully get some time again in the next few days and the vids will start flowing again!
Love this channel, bit of knowledge, bit of shit, bit of funny, bit of giving shit about people that don't know what their talking about (that's me, that's why I'm here).
love the project woody !!!! MK1 MR2 are cool as !!!
All the Australia Post Letter Flutes in the bike shop. 😂😂
good motivation for rebuilding my 16v smallport for my ke70 thats been taking up space in my dads garage for 2 years. gonna be stoked if it even turns over at this point
I noticed the simponss flag a about the 12 minute mark. OMG that is so awesome lol
one of your best this one ,good content, and when al goes to the glasses shop and gets some he wont know himself.
Even if you get the media stuck in passages after vapor blasting, because it's glass beads as opposed to sand grains, round vs sharp, it's easy to remove with a water hose and an aerator. Which essentially means you have to shove air through the water hose before it enters the block (one passage at a time). By doing that, you "shock" almost all the beads off the galleries and lines and you'll be in the green. As with all kinds of blasting with media...the first oil pass is sacrificial (IMHO) and you'd probably want to change it only after a few cycles.
Either way, heaps better than sand blasting.
As a side note, i heard that there's new media out there that once exposed to a specific lubricant, it melts. Prolly too expensive yet, for us shop gamers, but in the future, who knows.
great job woody and al power on you guys are a great team !!!!!
Bolt the supercharger from a 4AGZE onto the motor and make lots off cool supercharger noises. Sounded cool in my mates EA86 Sprinter when he replaced the old 4AG motor with a 4AGZE, and it went like stink!
Now I need a vapour blaster.... Damn those parts look brand new again!
@CurlyG65 awesome I'll have to start investigating
Lekrrrr video guys, glad u sticking to N/A on this 👍🏻😉👍🏻
shaved woody is lookin pretty slick
The original video with the washing machine shaking itself to bits was made by a fellow Aussie of yours, who unfortunately isn't with us anymore. RIP Aussie50.
Watching this in England, I can hear the collective French groan from over the channel every time Woody says "Wah-lah". Perfect!
I have the same cams in my blacktop. Great on the road, nice broad power band which does require all of the revs. Be sure to keep VVT if you can
To my knowledge, the 4A-GZE's internals are basically identical to the standard 16-valve "Bluetop" 4A-GE. The Roots chargers they used on those engines were pretty small, and the engines themselves were, in classic Toyota style, relatively overbuilt, so the innards weren't under that much more stress than they were on an NA engine. All 4A-GEs have identical blocks, though, so mixing and matching is entirely kosher!
Side note, _dear god that throttle body._ ITBs on a 4A-GE are already a match made in heaven, but after vapor-blasting...man alive, that's some sexy, sexy shine.
_I want this car so bad._
The 3 rib 'bluetop' bigport 4age is nowhere the same as a 4agze. It came with a 3 rib block vs 7 rib. 40mm big ends vs 42mm and 18mm little end vs 20mm. The later 7 rib 'red and black top' bigport 4age and 4agze are exactly bar the pistons and a knock sensor on the 4agze. The 7 rib smallport 4age and 4agze are exactly the same bar the pistons, these also came with oil squirters that the earlier 7 rib blocks didn't have. They also had a breather from the rear of the head to the block/crankcase, also works as a oil drain back. The 20v silvertop and blacktop blocks are very slightly different to the smallport ones, they didn't have the head to block breather.
Love it boys! Keep it up
Loving this build for some reason
Please take it out to lakeside and rip it around the track
More good stuff!
Cool trick with the magnet :)
Well, I know which guy I'd rather deal with. Great vid guys.
Johnny bought the block by the sounds of it 😁
Yesss 4age stuff haha. Got 4age info here if you ever need any! 👍 4AGE the world.
You guys are so funny when you’re working on your own stuff, so serious when working in other peoples stuff! Great work, no reason to make over 400 horsepower because you can’t use that much power anyways.
Maaan I love the 20v 4age!
After I vapour blasted a cylinder head it had some ally welding done, this heated the whole thing up and released even more blast media!
Even after what I thought was over the top cleaning. The heat must have evaporated the moisture out.
I do a lot of 20v motors here in Cape Town with good results the cams I use are the CAT cams 293deg with 9mm lift they work with std springs and the Vvt still works on average with a ported head and those cams you can expect around 135kw
I am in the same boat as Al, I am probably at the point where I need reading glasses, but not enough that I have been to the "glasses shop" yet ;-)
Just need to do it. I didn’t realise how bad my eyes were till I got them checked and got reading glasses. Changes your life.
@@freakysteve140281 100% this. Getting glasses was like going from a 480p to 4k screen
Since I bought my glasses my tig welds are so much better. Didn't realize how bad my eyes were.
@@tomwagemans1872 ditto
Yep, even the cheap ones from the chemist are ok, no visit to the "glasses shop" required lol
Soot grinding/cleaning without a mask. And then the remark about his "stash", brutal.
Yep, silver top rods were larger the black top was lightened up to help it's high revving nature.
The loose bolts is a bit of a thing with 20v that have had the limiter raised especially the cam caps need to be kept an eye on if it's seeing 9k or more regularly,
Also definitely splash out on new oil pump n keep to thicker oil they like to eat vvt gears if u gt to fancy with the oil
Excellent
How did I know we were gonna see John in this one?
Awesome video, I would love to see more of that turbo Cleveland drag car! I'm building a turbo Cleveland xf here in chch nz. Im an apprentice Mechanic turning 21 next week
Woody: "I'm a little bit weary doing this."
Also Woody: "Whatever, send it."
But seriously, this is some top quality tech content. Even people that know nothing (like me) can enjoy it. Good job.
