Today on The Skid Factory, Woody gets stuck down a rabbit hole removing excess immobiliser wiring from the MR2 when prepping the engine bay and front trunk for a respray.
It's then off to see Shane at "Old cocks" to get the copper/brass radiator reconditioned along with cleaning the A/C evaporator, Heater core and machining the Flywheel.

“NASA spec grounding” I laughed so hard my kids came running in to see what was up!
That stuff made me loose it to
Hahahahahaa soo good
😂 NASA Spec, I’m going to use that
A bit of wee came out I laughed so hard! Haha
There is a 65% chance they are not your kids!
I would look at your neighbor a little deeper or that one friend at her work.
The radiator reconditioning montage at the end is exactly why people should pay to get the job done right. These fellas have been in the industry for years - you pay for the experience and quality assurance.
Poor bastards die young of cancer too from the chems they use.
Agree 100% - very satisfying to watch skilled tradies repairing old parts, as opposed to just replacing the parts with new stuff. Great to watch!
@@maxst2 The last time I got a radiator reconditioned the guy who did it looked about 75... then again that might have just been the result of all those chemicals!
sadly people moan and groan when we charge for that type of work it takes time to get a good result and even the cost of solder is quite expensive these days, not withstanding the bureaucracy and fees the government charge
Woody - "You know that I'm not good at it"
Al - "I can yell"
Best conversation ever 🤣
I genuinely lol'd at that bit 😄
Damn that I can only thumbs up that once.
“He’ll wax on and wax off later.”
Ends with the interior in exploded view and the engine bay refinished by Stevie wonder bodyworks 😂😂😂😂 brilliant
Enjoyed Shane doing the radiator work, the way he makes it look easy and the skill involved is awesome!
Curtis Bowman you’d almost think he’d done it before!
Yeah that was awesome. I knew people did it but never knew the process..
So satisfying!
Was the most peaceful thing I’ve watched in a very long time. On yah Shane 👌
same!
13:42 "Woody lays down some coats of 3E5 Toyota red paint. Mostly on my driveway, and a little bit on the car as well."
I'm laughing way too much at this xD
Woodie will wax on, wax off later.
His silver car is now red flaked 🤣
at least it won't last long, 3E5 Super Red fades like a bitch
@@STAG162 I guess it'll match the exterior without a respray then hahaha.
Loving Al's voiceover! Bit of a rare treat that. Plus it's good to see Woody getting his hands dirty now and then 😉
Painting tip when painting outside, don’t have anything you don’t want paint on within 100 meters of the gun lol
+
Class hearing AL do voiceover, loving your work lads !
Same here. His voice reminds me of Mr squiggle from when I was a kid.
3:18 Moog would not be happy with Woody trying to play his radiator with the mute on.
be funny if it played an AC/DC guitar riff "before" cleaning, and a harp after.
I was kind of expecting that indeed
@@b.w.9392 Me too..
So enjoying this. Being thorough is not a bad trait. I’ve been down that rabbit hole and it outweighs the non rabbit hole when it’s done. Establishing when it’s done is the challenge.
after seeing marty and now woody having a hint of irritation in their voice, im convinced that owning a mr2 is a bad idea
As someone who has owned a AW11 for several years, and parted it out last year, I can assure you that it is not a good idea unless you have a lot of money. I do miss how fun it is to drive though (when everything is working).
Ownership experiences vary. Many will find it boring and underpowered when they are driving it too slow or noisy and unforgiving if they try driving it too fast.
Buy one that needs no work, enjoy it till it dose and move on. I just sold my SW20 after 6 years Only drove it for a few months. Think it was my last project/fun car
K-swap one
You want the 4age supercharged motor not the mr2.
‘.....And ends up with the interior in exploded view’ - Al is a deadpan legend 🤣
That valve cover would have looked resplendent in Wrinkle Red🤣🤣
I was wondering why they didn't do that. :) One day, I could be wanting something with wrinkle-black. I've wanted something with an engine that had that since I was improbably-young. :)
A good tip for covering up hoses, piping and wiring when your repainting is to wrap it in aluminium foil. Way faster than masking up with tape and easier to remove .
That masking job with the paper is absolutely resplendent Woody!
Alan's laconic voiceovers killed it! I'm pretty sure my neighbours were wondering what that weird old man is laughing/howling about.
Cheers from Helsinki, Finland
Yeah, the "NASA spec grounding" had me in stitches too! :D
Helsinki, Finland here too! This is my favorite time killing show. Funny and somewhat educational too
Strange. I don't remember doing any wiring on that car, but it does look like my finest work...
I have an ancient GQ ute that looks remarkably similar. Ahem...
The narration by Al is legendary.
And Lazy mechanics t-shirts, hoodies and stubby holders available next week...
Phenomenal flywheel montage with the smooth music starting at 26:07 👌
looks like the silvertop flywheel rather than the factory lightened blacktop flywheel.
Al's commentary track today was hilarious, I was laughing out loud. Nasa spec grounding... :D
' woody's laying down some paint .... mostly on the drive '
@@888johnmac yeah that was classic!
Ralph Macchio
Love it when Al is the commentator. Makes the video that much better. Keep it up
Alan's commentary is even better than the Christmas wrapping paper!
Good on you Woody for pushing yourself to do new things, that's how you learn, well that and having Alan yelling at you!
"No, you are doing it wrong!" comments are one of the best things about these videos! LOL
Always nice to see a craftsman at work with the torch.
Cheers from Tokyo!
18:43 Don't be sorry... just fix it . Hallmark Cards are calling Al, they need your inspirational quotes!
Al: "don't apologize, just fix it.."
Classic dad comment..
That VO by Al: second to none.
“A thumb with a moustache” 🤣😂🤣
Nah, defs a big toe.
@@bgdwiepp can confirm, big toe
I started with a snowball and ended up with an avalanche! 🤣 truer words have never been spoken 🤣
Who else here try’s to pause to read the “old cock” comments in the corner that flash up ?????
“Condenser enthusiast not a French sporting brand “...😂 😂😂
C Gro
Yeah, i used to do that but CZcams does not make that easy to do & i used to get way to annoyed.
It's "le coq français" not "le vieux coq".
Or I'm not aware of an old dead brand.
@@guy_autordie We don't do literal that much when it comes to old cock references.
Cheat codes are pausing and the < and > keys. ;)
I think I saw 4 in this episode. Pausing all the time definitely makes it take longer to watch.
Great job on the paint. I found the radiator repair part most interesting. Thanks for showing us that part.
It’s good to see Woody working and Al doing the commentary just to mix it up a bit.
That prep work by "Stevie Wonder Bodyworks" really shows. You can't beat SWB craftsmanship.
That radiator work is amazing. I’ve never seen that repair before.
"The radiator core was also a bit 'how you going'" - As a Brit I listen in amazement at how our language has transmogrified into phrases like this down in Australia... yet although to us in the UK this comment makes zero sense, the context and tone made it completely understood.
The poms prefer "a bit how's your father"
@@mikeymasi Or possibly 'What a bellend....'
I love Al chirping Woody. So good
Al provides the narration we all need - Brutal but true!
Damn cleaning the tubes of the rad with the "dipstick" looked oddly satisfying
Loving the narration by Al too, very soothing.
Seeing I've had to have a prostate rebore, it only made me wince.
That Radiator content is Top Notch, more of that when the opportunity arises please :D
Great chemistry between Alan and Woody
I'm loving more and more of your personalities coming out as you get more comfortable in front of the camera... especially Al, such a classic Aussie sense of humour.
I saw that ignition barrel wiring and almost died
My Alfa looked almost the same, what is it with aftermarket alarm/immobilizer and central locking installs? Not to mention shit headunit and speaker installs? Fortunately was pretty straight forward to cut that shit out and rejoin the wires.
@@sw96 I used to be a fitter many years back and I'll be honest its a tough gig. But I'd like to think that not all of us are bad. I had one guy teaching me during my training, to just poke holes through the copper strands. poke your wire through and tape it up. sure it worked. but I'd still solder it. (unless its in the engine bay, then it gets clamps (Not blasted shotlocks!))
4:00 Woody now knows the meaning of the term "scope creep".
I love Al's commentary on these videos. So cool.
Woody - the priapic icon of 2020. 😆🇦🇺
You can hear Al's love for this car coming through in his commentary.
2:11 That satire voice over had me in tears 😆😆😆
NASA Spec!!! HAHAHAHAHA
Al's commentary is amazing. Keep doing that please.
As someone who works on cars in the age of it usually being cheaper to throw something away than fix it, it's really nice to see guys like Shane still fixing radiators/heater cores etc.
Loved Alan's commentary ! The solid sarcasm made me smile 😀
So did your theme.
Stevie Wonder bodyworks.... I see what you did there :p
He didn't.
@@kieranmurphy7692 well played, sir
Watching the radiator getting cleaned was awesome.
Noosa Radiators, a place where crafstmen gather. What a wonderful showcase of their work!!
"Old cock: Heater repairer. Not an aubergine emoji.." "local workshop owner. Not a shaded oasis" "condenser enthusiast, not a French sporting brand." 🤣🤣🤣
20:42
Collector of speciality tools, not a campanologist.
Al's commentary is just the purest gold :)
Al's savagely sarcastic voiceover is just the best.
Really enjoyed the radiator work. Always good to watch someone who knows their trade that well
Actually loving Al doing the voice overs, has a funny and interesting way of doing it
Woody looks at his paint walks off has a few lemon squashes looks again then you get the OK.
I repaired, built and serviced radiators and cores for 6 months way back in the 80's when everything was still made of copper. Never used the oxy on them much always just a natural gas torch. It paid really well however I gave it up after I lost my sense of taste and smell due to the flux. I have a lot of respect for those who stayed with it as it is really an art.
Al's voiceovers get better with each video! love it. top work Woody
Woody looks like Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau.
Swine immobilizer.
Ohhh I hope that sticks...!! hahaha
AL I AM CANCELING THE ATTACK ORDER FOR TONIGHT.
Oi woody! Just watch the episodes of turbo yoda making a wiring harness!😜
Fantastic to see the radiator and heater core restoration. lost art indeed
I'm not hugely fond of the car, but this is quickly becoming one of my favourite Skid Factory builds. Love the Alan voiceovers, and Woody is a great host, and it's great to see him passionate about one of his own cars.
Would love to see Al make some epic custom NA headders and exhaust for this all out of stainless ... yeah...
Hell yeah
The old saying "give the hardest job to the laziest man, he'll find the quickest way of getting it done."
The saying in our shop was --> Give the most difficult job to the busiest (most productive) man. He will get it done fast and right. (He never wants to do a job over again)
@@marscruz and in 6 months he'll be so burned out he'll either quit or kill the rest of you lazy bastards!
@@CosRacecar 80/20 rule. 20% of the people in an organization are responsible for 80% of the work that gets done. If you've ever wondered why your coworkers don't ever seem to get anything done, it's because you're in that 20%.
Al's narration is gold!
Quality craic 👍👍
Al’s commentary is golden!! 😂😂
Stevie wonder body works must be a busy shop, i see heaps of their work. Shame they couldnt see it.
I'd say it turned out mint, Finally got my MA70 running so now I have to pull it all back out to do the same thing.
Alan voice overs are life.
That radiator work was relaxing to watch.
Stevie Wonder body works and NASA spec ground 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, Al missed his calling as a comic
Valve cover would've looked resplendent in the wrinkle red 👌
Al's commentary is the best
Wow, the radiator repair is mindblowing! Very cool!
Woody you're doing perferct bro :P
And Al, keep commenting its so good haha
Oh man! Painting outside... red eye boogers for days!
Rad overhaul was so satisfying to watch. Real pros in a dying industry. It's a art really. Woody's dance was nice too. 👍🇺🇸🍻
watching the radiator reconditioning was mesmerising. thanks guys
Seeing that radiator cleaned and flowing properly is f-ing glorious for my OCD ass.
Soooo satisfying.
I know where to take mine now! Haha
Glad to see Woody living up to Al's expectations as always.
You're a legend Woody for keeping Al's commentary in the video. Al, you're a legend for letting Woody bring that car into your garage. Cheers 😊
"IT SHOULD BE FINE" 👌
" I know what I am doing, but I'm not sure why I am doing it 😂"
4:34.... yea whatever!!!! hahahahah good chat!!!
What is this, the new Gunman channel? In all seriousness, you can buy the plastic car protector covering stuff for $30 dollars; it's that cheap, and I would recommend using Scotch-Brite pads for in the engine bay (or the Koala holder as you say in Aus). I like the painting.
pretty sure Woody would have got that overspray paper/wrapping paper for like $2 at the reject shop haha
Al's sarcastic voice over just takes this show to a WHOLE new level!
Al commentary is freaking priceless!
Here I was thinking that engine bay, had been painted with a fish tail on a dark night.
Shouldn’t it be called a froot?
The radiator restoration was super cool. Thank you!
The gift wrap masking paper is *chef's kiss*
14:33 Al asks Woody "What are you doing chooch"? Chooch means donkey in southern Italian dialect. My brothers and I would ask each other that when we were working on our cars. Too funny 🤣
I think that is probably where the term came from, it was an italian term. Thanks for sharing.
I'm going to pinch that - too good!!
A Ferrari without wrinkle red valve covers?
So I guess the engine will be a hilux top?
I know I'm 4 months late but mate, Al is an absolute natural with the voiceovers!
Ahhhh Woody, that was sooo enjoyable watching you disappear down that rabbit hole - we've all been there, refreshing and cathartic to see that it happens to the pro's too 😁😍
Top man!
@19:10 Come now Woodrigos, don’t cut yourself short...you made quite a handsome mustachioed wiener.
@21:15 You prefer inspecting undercarriages, do ya? I heard that about you...
Just joking Woody, I was just seeing if I could get a laugh out of Yoda.
I feel like I need a shower after that combination of Shane's work with the radiator, that sultry music and Al's soothing voice....
That radiator work was the best hey!
I didn't even knew it was possible to recondition a radiator ! That is so cool !
Thanks guys, the radiator repair was very well filmed and very satisfying!
