    Another good tip is, once you've determined (and confirmed) the correct tooth, use a punch to mark the ring below the tooth. You could mark the tooth itself, obviously, but you risk damaging or deforming it. Better to mark the ring, where there's more supporting material and is less likely to be hardened.

    I got one for you! I did a degree wheel for timing of the crankshaft and it nowhere near the 180 degree timing mark from the key way. The timing mark is what you said but if I line up TDC the piston is on the bottom not the top? I’m stumped?

    • @patdennis3751
      @patdennis3751 Před 2 lety

      @@JM-yx1lm true. What I was asking is whether it is an industry standard to cùt the keyway opposite of timing marks or is Honda the only one?

    • @BryanPAllen
      @BryanPAllen Před 2 lety

      @@patdennis3751 I think it’s the other way around. 180 degrees out from the key way is where other companies place their cam timing mark.
      The keyway is what you need to time the crank to timing chain, but to be properly timed it’s 180 out and less easy to use so they add the timing mark to the opposite side of the timing gear keyway for ease of getting it timed correctly.

      Typically, the exhaust valve is closest to the exhaust side of the barrel and the intake valve closest to the carburetor intake manifold. Hope that helps.

    I need Taryl to save me. I have a Kohler CV20S 65515. My valve guide broke. You can find all kinds of valve guides for about $15, but this motor doesn't have a part number for a valve guide. Kohler says you have to buy a whole new head. I wondered if Taryl new of an intake valve guide that would fit this motor. I punched the old one out just like any other motor. My plan is to measure the one in the other head and try to .watch the size. Again most valve guides aren't sold by size but by which motor it goes to. HELP TARYL!
