    That’s a pretty slick homemade puller 👍

Thanks for this, very helpful, had to pull one of these off a 2009 Land Rover Defender.

Awesome vid bro, I just pulled down my 2016 mustang MT82 today, but didnt see your video until afterwards. !! Man the detents are a bitch without the right puller. I made my own but still tough to get the bigger ones out. Looking forward to the rebuild and re-assembly. Cheers.

My mechanic sent my 2020 Mustang GT Manual MT82 because 3rd gear was toast to a transmission shop and they have done many rebuilds. Problem is when I got my transmission back from them $3k later it threw a wrench 🔧 light! My reverse camera doesn’t activate. My mechanic thinks has something to do with some magnetics in the transmission they didn’t align right or didn’t replace?? I’m so confused. Have any ideas??

There a reverse light switch at the tail housing make sure it’s good still. Could be damaged.
Or silly guy could have forgot to plug it in!!

Thank you for the vids! It’s perfect. Where are you want to rebuild mine?

It's coming all these transmissions are there's not very many videos of guys taking them apart.
Went to the dealer to get mine looked at they straight up told me before they even took the car they were not going to take the unit apart if anything was busted they were going to replace the entire thing.
I'm in the middle of pulling out the reverse gear and synchro how to hell that broke I have no idea car only has 6,000 mi on it haven't even had a chance to beat on it yet.

@@thestickshiftsource I'll save the email but I was fortunate enough to get it back together.
Haven't installed yet. But I'll definitely keep you in mind if it all goes downhill as soon as I get to drive it.

Awesome video! Just tire apart the 82 from my 2015 GT. Do you have the part number for the billet detent? I've scoured the internet but can't find one.

The billet detent? You mean the billet shift rail stop? It is something I actually make now in house, since it became hard for me to source them as well.
All I do is weld up extra material on the end there where the plastic piece was and turn it on the lathe to be precise.

Quick question - Whenever you remove the main output flang, should you replace the seal back there? Or is the seal untouched when you pull the flang?

    • @thestickshiftsource
      @thestickshiftsource  Před rokem

The rear seal, when taking off that rear flange is untouched however, it is ideal that when you are in there since you are taking it apart anyways you might as well replace it. You don’t want to do all this work and get it all put back together and up in the car and then you have the rear seal leaking. Same goes to the front input shaft seal.

There is no way you do a few of these every week if you have to lay your parts out like that lol

Just because I organize the gears in a way for my viewers to understand how to take this thing apart doesn’t mean I don’t do a ton of them, the organization is for diy guys in their garage who want the pleasure of repairing their transmission themselves in a simplistic way so they can easily put the trans back together.
For me, you could show me a part from inside any mt82 from 2011 to now and I could tell you where it goes.
I have a 4 foot tall file cabinet full of invoices from all the transmissions I’ve done so I think I’m well capable of understanding the internals and their functions.
