** The busiest airport in the French Antilles
** Northern most island of the Lesser Antilles
    ** History of the island
** Tourism sector in St Barts
** Agreeable weather throughout the year
With the fast approaching holiday season, the small island of St-Bart’s is long familiar with the private planes of the Jet Set. As you will discover, landing on this northern most island of the Lesser Antilles is very spectacular. Facing the wind, the pilot has to fly low, at an altitude of 30 metres, the descent coming from the mountain before turning to touch down on the tarmac that is only 650 metres long. The consequence of this is that only pilots with special training can land at St-Bart’s. Taking off facing the mountain is just as spectacular. Only small planes with a maximum space for 20 passengers can land at the airport. Entry for large carriers is at the international airport of St Maarten located 25 kms away.
In spite of the difficult take off and landing, the Gustave III airport is the busiest airport in the French Antilles with 35,000 flights per year, 6,000 being private charters.
St. Barts, it’s full name being Saint Barthelemy, was discovered by Christopher Colombus at the end of the 15th century. He named the island after his brother Barthomley. This small island only 24 square km’s belonged in turn to the Spanish, the French, the Swedes and then the French again in 1878. Christopher Colombus didn’t stay on St. Barts; the volcanic island didn’t have any precious metals and notably no gold. But 60 years ago, that all changed.
St. Barts became a sought after luxurious holiday destination thanks to American millionaire David Rockefeller who bought a property there in 1957. Today the island is inhabited in large part by colony descendants from France. The island counts a little more than 9,000 residents. The tourism sector employs about 37% of the workforce. Priority is given to premium tourism; it’s receives about 300,000 visitors per year.
St. Barts is unique because it only has two seasons. First, is the period locals call Lent where the temperature is an average of 27 degrees from December 1st to May 30th. It’s High season and is more favourable for discovering turtles and 183 different species of fish in the volcanic craters. The second season is called winter and is on the contrary to it’s name, the hottest season, with an average temperature of 30 degrees Celsius from June 1st to November 30th. It should be noted that St Barts, which is presented as “the art of being an island” offers lighting that perfectly blends with the new TV picture broadcast technology of Ultra High Definition 4k. And to finish this Jet Set escapade to St. Barts, we offer you a spectacular take off from the little airport of Gustave III. Paris is 8,500 km away, and New York, 2,500.

@@CountNikiko yes I’m aware of that. There are 3000 islands and they weren’t all inhabited. However I certainly don’t believe the white washed history as I said. Other British discoverers labelled humans as flora and fauna to justify their takeover.

What? "Private jets of the Jetset"? The speaker has clearly never been to St Barts- that airport is too small for private jets, only super small commercial ones from a few companies (one owned by the president, St Barth Commuter) are allowed there. Private jets fly to St Marteen.
