    Rumors continue to swirl that Johnathan Majors--and Kang the Conqueror--are out. The latest rumor is that Majors had a clause in his contract that stipulated he could not be recast. So, pending the results of his trial, it looks like we may have seen the last of Kang. This would also explain why the Loki finale was partially rewritten--to make Kang a footnote in a TVA file.
    So who can replace him as the big bad of the multiverse saga? In this video, we speak with a couple of experts on who could be the new big bad of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

      It’s very possible that unless you’re from ScreenCrush, you won’t read this…and even if you are, it’s still probably TLDR, but I’m still gonna say what I have to say.
      When exactly was the second time the Avengers beat Thanos? Unless you’re counting the retired Thanos at the beginning of Endgame…which I’d argue, they didn’t beat, just because they decapitated him, doesn’t mean they won.
      Thanos retired, he accomplished his goal and left it all behind to live in solitude, he destroyed his greatest weapon, and was just waiting for old age and Death to take him. They didn’t beat Thanos when he was trying to accomplish something, you could even say that Thanos gave up on living. The man was crippled by achieving his goal, didn’t try to defend himself (if he was trying to defend himself, he would’ve taken some kind of security measures, or put up some kind of fight), he even told the Avengers that he was done, that his mission was accomplished and he no longer had a purpose (…”the work is done, it always will be”). If Thanos had ANY kind of motivation to keep going, or a new goal, or hell, if he just wanted to live forever, he never would’ve destroyed the gauntlet, or at least put himself in a position to defend himself. The guy had ALL the technology in the universe at his fingertips, even before gaining the gauntlet, had he wanted to go on, he would’ve left himself some sort of defense at “the garden”. The Avengers didn’t beat IW Thanos, they killed an old man with no purpose of real will to live.

      Screencrush has a big bias on this, it's very clear. They say a "I'm not a lawyer" disclaimer to avoid defamation claim but then they just spout off a bunch of opinions about what is and isn't an appropriate contract for an actor signing on to a franchise like Marvel. He starts these videos saying that they will withhold judgement on the case but then immediately pass judgements and claim toxic behavior from something his agent and lawyer likely negotiated on his behalf, and surmise that he "likely" will be soon replaced ... Like idk if it's Ryan or Colton or whoever writing these bts news updates videos on Majors, but their bias is so obvious that it sort of sours me on their content in general. Just wish they would pick a lane and stay in it on this one...

    Just a quick recap of the trial though 2 days: The judge is not allowing the accuser to be referred to as victim, her arrest can be referenced during cross examination and the sealed documents remained sealed despite the hit piece article written by vanity fair. The defense is asking to cross examine these exes. It's easy to pile on when things look bad so I'm reserving judgement on them. The Jury has been selected, proceedings begin in earnest on Monday. Combined with the video evidence that has been released to the public, Majors will most likely prevail unless new evidence comes into play. If Disney were to pivot it would be the opportune time. Just one thing though. Disney torched the Pirates franchise rushing to condemn Johnny Depp, and that was under Bob Iger. I don't think they are looking for a repeat of that scenario hence them being quiet on the subject so far. Lets all try and remember it's innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around. And believe the facts, Don't automatically accept an allegation as truth due to gender(Believe all women or men). They should bring back Ultron anyway, regardless of Kang or Doom imo

    • @JustJessee
      @JustJessee Před 5 měsíci +4

      Bingo. The only reason Marvel has not pivoted based on the 'disappointing numbers' of AM3 along with the negative publicity from Majors' current legal situation is because they were absolutely burned by the Depp/Pirates situation. I can respect (as much or little as possible) them actually taking a breath to allow for the legal proceedings to become more public and to try and see where the wind is shifting on this, despite the fact that I personally can't stand Majors' acting "style". Looks like Disney might be learning a few lessons from the last few years.

      I don't like any of their takes on Majors they're acting like the roll out for Thanos was perfectly executed when it dragged on what felt like forever only for him to be showcased in Infinity War and killed as soon as he appeared in Endgame. Kang was sucked into his engine core and HWR specifically said did you think I was just going to let her kill me and that be it nada Rip HWR meaning that scenario had already been calculated and set in motion for Loki to master time slipping to be transformed by his journey because he was always one to take the monicer. The Loki finale left it open ended in case they can move forward with the Kang story or if they have to audible but he got what he wanted and was in total control of what happened I didn't see Loki outwit him I saw HWR step aside to let Loki prove that his way of not pruning & dismantling the loom will somehow prevent the war to end all worlds will work all he wanted from Loki was to keep his system in place because his intentions were to protect what could be HWR is Immortus.

    • @Dre-Eye
      @Dre-Eye Před 5 měsíci +5

      @@JustJessee It's the most prudent and fiscally responsible approach. The asking number for Depp to return to pirates is so large that it's forced a reboot or it will remain defunct. Marvel has enough bad press now. The Barbarians aren't quite at the gate yet, but I know their optimal outcome, is that he beats this case and resumes as Kang. What if and Deadpool 3(mostly Deadpool 3) are poised to shut the naysayers and detractors respective pieholes. MCU's first R rated movie could really turn the tide. Here's holding out hope the Echo series TV-MA vibe lives up to the trailer as well. My prediction is that they get their best outcome....if they can leave the South Park Panderverse and focus on storytelling as the caveat.

    • @Dre-Eye
      @Dre-Eye Před 5 měsíci +2

      @@Unknown_-bt8uv I like your take. I agree to an extent, it's just that the movies rarely let the show's set them up properly. An argument can be made for Loki season 1 setting up the events of spiderman NWH and Dr. Strange MOM even though the TVA and Loki were never referenced or even slightly nodded to. I like the perfect place to pivot bookmark the finale left things in, even though I am inclined to believe Majors will prevail. As far as kang goes, I think the comics are showing us why he stepped aside for Loki. Fiege is overseeing it all, and he's made Loki Avenger prime. In that sense, from a tactical strategy standpoint, the best move is to remove avenger prime from the board pre-emptively. It ensures the avengers can't stop the Dynasty. That's my Sylvie style stab at a take lol.

      That's why I think they are comletely wrong about Doom. It would a big mistake to introduce him without mask.
      The way to introduce him is the following:
      Doom is the absolute ruler of a utopia. Latveria has great and free healthcare, great and free education, the freshest air possible and no environmental problems. Everything is perfect, unless you criticise Doom. Criticising Doom and wanting freedom means death. Not an offence punishable by death. Just death. You criticise, you dead.
      Now he wants to take over the rest of the world. That leaves the audience with the question is perfect leadership preferable to a flawed democracy? The heroes obviously fight for freedom, like the freedom fighters they are. But are they on the right side?
      And Doom needs to appear to be closer to Thanos than a mere human. He speaks slowlyly and deliberately, with a deep booming voice (with some electric distortion). He never raises his voice. And he never moves fast, unless he fights and then he's really fast.
      That's the way to introduce Doom. The complexity comes later. His first plan gets foiled (because each movie should stand on it's own, but he remains the ruler of Lateveria, so he doesn't get defeated or killed. Reed Richards having an important role in foiling his plan leads to their competition. From now on he wants to show that he is the superior being.

One of the things that Marvel did really well in print form was to have a mysterious villain appear (often from the back or in silhouette) in a few places, then appear as the mastermind behind some long running plot, finally showing up in a multi-issue sweep where the villain is front-and-center.

It exudes a desire for perfection and continuity with the character, we’ve been saying Majors’s portrayal is great but imagine how toxic fans would be to whoever they had playing his other variants who I doubt would do it like him. Unless Kang is convicted, there's no way they're getting rid of Majors, because it would still make no sense & they'd really have to twist themselves to explain why the main driving force of the multiverse is gone & pass his motivations onto someone else. Saying Kang has been written out is thinking about it for 2 seconds and thinking the very shallow explanation does the trick. And directors, etc. getting shuffled aren't completely surprising. In fact, makes sense that Marvel is serious about correcting some issues by having one writer & one director for both Avengers movies. Besides, the latest reports say Kang Dynasty is still happening. So unless Majors' convicted, stop clickbaiting every 2 seconds & coming up with weird ideas that would honestly be terrible. Thanos? Ultron? 🤦🏻

    I think that some people heard about a clause in Jonathan Major's contract and misunderstood what it meant. Rather than giving Majors an absolute right to play any version of Kang the Conqueror, I think the clause instead gave Marvel the right to have Majors play any variant of Kang. Majors was an up-and-coming actor, but he was never such a huge star that it makes sense he would be able to negotiate a clause that prevented anyone else from playing Kang. But even if he had such a clause, I think it would make a lot more sense for Marvel to buy him out of that contract than to just abandon the Kang character altogether. Again, Majors did not have the negotiation leverage of Robert Downey, Jr. He was never going to earn $50 million for playing Kang. Recast Kang, but agree to pay out his contract anyway, or if necessary, add on an extra $5 or $10 million, but get the Kang rights back. That would make far more sense.

However, a private company is under no obligation to continue to employ someone who is accused of a crime and is certainly not required to wait for a verdict before they can fire someone. It's not just movie studios that want to avoid seeming like they are unconcerned about domestic violence. Major League Baseball does not wait for a criminal verdict before suspending a player accused of domestic violence. In fact, they don't even require that a criminal complaint be filed. Once an accusation is made, the Commissioner's Office will investigate and, depending on the results, will decide on punishment. This was actually agreed to by the MLB Players" Union. There is also the example of the House of Representatives. While the custom had been to wait for a conviction before voting to remove a member, that was never legally required. I think part of the reason for that custom is that by waiting for a conviction, the member would most likely finish their term before a vote was necessary. But it was so clear that George Santos did not belong in Congress that even though the GOP had only a 4-seat majority, nearly half of Republicans voted to expel him.

    I feel like everyone is going in the direction of dump Kang and bring someone else in. However, if I were in Marvel's position I'd be waiting this all out until there is definitive proof to consider the extreme option of dumping a character I've set up and then pluck other baddies in to satiate the fans. Kang was given the set up he needs to be the big threat he is and he "paved the road" (literally) , for this set up. Marvel actually has the wiggle room and time to see this through and possibly continue on the course it currently is on.
    It's also a bit disingenuous to chuck up Kang as a poor villain based on the performance of Quantumania and thwn use that as justification to dump him. Kang was actually a very serious threat that was nerfed by the circumstances he was in while inside the Quantum realm. Johnathan Majors' performance also carried a big chunk of the film. Kang "dying" is actually par the course for what happens in the comics. Another variant, deadlier than the last, can come in to fill the void... or there's always that theory that Kang didn't die but was sent somewhere else outside the quantum realm, somewhere the council of Kangs cannot detect him so they interpreted him as being dead.

    If we are being honest here there is a simple solution to the problem and easily could be how Disney thinks of this whole thing:
    If Majors is found guilty of his crimes then there has to be something in the contract that says they can fire him and recast him as someone else, I find it extremely difficult to believe they wouldn’t include some type of “out” in protection of the company. (I really liked your idea of having Denzel’s kid replace him as he could give a unique spin on the character)
    ***BUT***
    If he is innocent then keep Majors. Not just because he’s a good actor but because he’s your villain and with the public perception of him being an evil man will work to Disney’s advantage. Ultimately there will be those that don’t like him regardless of the outcome so don’t fear what can be a net-positive selling your story.
    That being said if they did want to transition to Doom, the way I would do it is have him be a shadow figure for the Kang Dynasty. Finding out that he’s the one who helped Kang and gave him the power to win would make him a huge threat and by the end you could have Doom erase Kang and reveal that his goal was to let Kang eliminate the weak so that he could rule over the prime versions of each hero, creating the footsteps to his god emperor throne at the end of the movie, showing that he’s in the process of creating battle world. We don’t need a Doom origin for this one, EVERYONE knows doom, literally don’t even show his face. show him being the dominant force he is and have him be the build up to the secret wars with a Fantastic 4 movie in between to show his origin instead of the f4 for the 3rd time.
    After secret wars they can go on to the huge cosmic and mystical entities, justifying that since they are all omega level beings that they either got free from their prisons because of Doom or they know what Doom did so they want to blow up earth to prevent another entity from destroying everything.

Also, they way you have the dog make little comments about Majors is a bit telling. I would think you would know more about how Hollywood contracts work. Actors/actresses have all kinds of clauses in their contracts. Queen Latifah has a clause where she doesn't die in a movie so that she doesn't get cut out on the sequel. Do you think Tom Cruise doesn't have various clauses that give him control or a upper hand in a franchise? I would think a person who covers movies and Hollywood as much as you do would have a little bit of knowledge about something like this. As Doug the dog commented about that being something a toxic person would do, that's business. I don't see anyone commenting on how Downey got a absurd amount of money worked into his contract for the films. People praised it as a smart power play.

    The Maker. Like there are literally two Mr. Fantastics in existence, and I honestly think that Miles Teller could be THE Maker. I mean, his character was literally based off of the variant of Reed that became the Maker, and Secret Wars (2015) had him as the secondary antagonist--so why not commit full way? In some way, it'll give Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards something to be wary off in his run as Mr. Fantastic--kinda like the burden of knowing that while he's the only one that can restore the multiverse (kinda like what happened in Hickman's Secret Wars), he's also the one that can fuck it up HARD.

    Not me shedding a single tear over both the character Kang and the actor Majors potentially being moved on from in the MCU. Haaaated the ham handed, stuttering, 'this is how awkward people act like, right?' depiction of Victor Timely. And if I never have to see a single second more of Rama Tut or any other of the absolutely absurd Council of Kangs variants I will feel blessed. I'm sure they work in print, but good gawd they were ridiculous to watch the whole 2 minutes they had screen time in Ant Man 3*.
    In conclusion, not even taking into consideration Majors' current legal involvement, I am all on board with Marvel letting the Kang ship continue to sail away, far far away.

    Personally, I liked the adaptation to snarky Ultron. The scene you referenced really highlights why. As a character, Ultron has an unusual Oedipus-esque complex centered around his creator. Even though it was a cheesy omlet joke, it still resonates with what this character would be like if RDJ's Tony Stark helped invent him rather than a Hank Pym. He even admits to coming up with the same joke to Thor.
    More importantly, however, Ultron isn't Ultron until he COMES BACK. Honestly, he's a great choice that I hope they have plans for.

    I never thought he "got beat up by ant-man," I thought it was a ruse that ended with ant-man trapped in a time loop of his own, where he was allowed to think he won. Also, that would have all been revealed later in a different show or movie after credits.

    I’m surprised nobody mentioned Daniel Bruhl’s Zemo. He’s no cosmic threat, but Civil War damaged the Avengers permanently and audiences loved the grounded nature of the character. I think he’s the only MCU villain who got exactly what he wanted and is still active in the current saga. He also appeared with Sam and Bucky in their tv show, so they wouldn’t have to spend much of time selling audiences on a big new character. Not sure if there’s time for a Masters of Evil story, but maybe.

    Seems no matter who they may or not replace with Kang is not what worries so much. It’s more who they have as writer. The same guy who botched Multiverse of Madness and supposedly his writing in season of Loki needed rewrites. There’s talk about Raimi directing which I def don’t want. No interest regressing to his 90s camp style. That’s not what the MCU needs if indeed they go this route

    I'm still hoping that they recast him, but will see, but if they want to introduce a new big bad, but with out using Dr.Doom for the multivers maybe something that the council of kang are affraid it would be the Beyonder and adapt the old Secret Wars (in wich it was the first marvel universe crossover before the Infinity quest) that involved the beyonder who want to know which from the hero and light side or the villain and the darkside win (like animated series of Too sandwich that i recomand you), we could still keep the Caméo Armageddon from the modern comics adaptation of Secret Wars but without the God emperor Doom just Beyonder or in the first part of the Avengers movie we setup the beyonder and then in the second part we see Dr.Doom in his God emperor form or maybe he join the side of the Beyonder to later betray him to take his place or power, but the key would be the Fantastc Four movie in wich i hope they use the Molecule Man has first Antagonists to proper setup the Multivers saga

    Honestly, the thing that most blows my mind is that the MCU hasnt had a string of recurring villains who win in some ways and lose in others. It works great in LOTR, star wars, dark tower, MHA, AoT... hell even my TTRPG campaigns are designed that the antagonistic NPCs link together at least thematically or as unknowing stepping stones to the major plot points

    Why is SC so quick to speak about Jonathan like he is guilty? It seems every video discussing him SC speaks about him like he’s guilty and the worst human ever. It’s a scary premise to believe he’s guilty before an official ruling. We can have opinions, but to essentially paint him as guilty based on what amounts to rumors is poor judgement. However, if is he proven guilty, I, agree he is a bad guy, recast, him, and so on. In like 3+ videos I have noticed this trend and wanted to say something.
