My 2nd part of my first adventure at Rufford Ford saw a whole lot of huge, risky splashes through the ford. One of the participants was a genuine police car, driven by a police officer who seemed in an immediate hurry! None of us could believe the speed and the strength of the car as it waded through.

UK club auto rallies in the 1960s often included a ford. On the far side you'd often see mini drivers taking the plugs out and removing the air cleaner.

I was once told that splashing a pedestrian constituted a road traffic accident for which you should stop and exchange give details. Never seen mit happen though.

Being an ancient person, I remember my driving instructor giving me advice about fording. Here in Devon, fords and floods are common. I'm astounded that people risk £1000s by not ensuring they know how to ford safely. I suppose many don't even know where their air intake is...
Nah the best way is to go through flat out. Speedboats are cool, so speedcars are too

@@tortozza Yes, before entering the water, check its depth. Check the position of the air intake of the vehicle and if the water is likely to come into the passenger compartment. If the water level is only a few inches below the air intake (one can often disconnect or swivel the intake if the carb or throttle body is higher intake lower than the filter.) then proceed very slowly in 1st gear disturbing the water as little as possible and keeping the revs at about 1500 rpm (slip clutch if necessary).
A slow walking pace should create a slight bow wave that will keep the engine compartment (front engine) from flooding and thus the water being too churned up by the cooling fan. If the cooling fan is electric, turn it off or remove the fuse before proceeding.

I picked up a 99 disco II earlier this year looks a lot the one at the 11min mark. Driving it is awsome you get the feeling you can go literally anywhere no problem, such cool vehicles!

1:46 that g20 definitely had issues later on cause the air intake sits low. I went in like a foot of water in mine and I basically went at a slow phase to not chug water unto the air intake and the next morning i had a check engine. Went to the dealers and they said not to worry and got her back in shape, wonder what happened to that g20.

@AdamC I'm so chuffed you've travelled to visit Rufford ford. Nottinghamshires finest organic vehicle wash and reg plate warehouse. There is also another good and quite treacherous ford on Houndsfield Lane, Hollywood, West Mods.

UK number plate fixing is so flimsy. Just a couple of nylon bolts. Here in sunny Japan number plates have proper metal bolts with a metal number plate surround.

The amount of cars this ford has written off is surely in the hundreds. It looks like its just shallow enough in this video to not destroy nearly every engine. Looks fun!
