After months of watching the carnage at Rufford Ford, I decided to join the collection of CZcamsrs who film there everyday. I hope my narrative can create more of a documentative style to these videos, capturing the issues that locals face with this infamous piece of road. RIP to the Golf R32 who experienced engine failure whilst fording through.

How does any person - who manages to go about daily life without dribbling and falling over - think that driving through a ford in a regular car at anything other than a snails pace is a good idea?
Amazing number of CZcams channels who post very regular content on this Ford. I wonder what car insurance is like in that area🤪🤪🤪
That’s what I’m saying. You have to be completely ignorant at how a vehicle works to fly though one of these in any regular road car.
Natural selection tbh 🤣
if you could hit it at around 160 mph your aquaplane across it all like a water ski
Would it not be better to revers through it. ?
I love how i could sit and watch hours of cars going through some water.
Then go to Tom Sunderlands channel. Is literally that.
Innit omg
Me too hahah
Same bro 🤣
@@Emira_75 And far better than this................
I never thought the r32 would actually go through it, that was so painful to watch
R32 is four wheel drive, therefore it's an offroader and should be fine...is the only thing I can think was going through that guys mind.
Yes that bit hurt my soul.. vid wasn’t clickbait though i guess.
why not? its a bmw after all and we all know koreans/japanese build good airplanes and ships
@@Gazmus its four wheel drive only to have better traction on paved roads. It's absolutely not an off-road capable vehicle. You heard the engine making a loud metal snapping sound right? That rare and iconic engine is destroyed and needs to be replaced or fully rebuilt at great cost. Golf R32s are collector cars. A real shame
@@Niaaal yeah but r32 have poor engine, very weak, my pal does not dare use his golf when it rains, the windows mist up and everything lol
surprised by the amount of cars that made it through. So used to having every single car breakdown from other channels lol
I took a 50cc through a ford, was fun. done it a few times with 125's and other motorbikes. only thing is.. your boots might be a bit soaked same with your legs, so do it on a sunny day.
It was not as deep as it can be.
i like how adam sounds like a narrator to a wildlife show
But far more annoying as he never shuts up.
Too much talk for a wildlife show

The "have fun in your track day" had me rolling lmao
im sure they will have loads of fun with warped brake disks
If someone builds a bar there they're going to be rich. I literally cannot think of something more fun then watching cars crossing the ford for hours while having a couple cold ones and some good fries
This needs to be done, and I'll fly to the UK for this!
I'm pretty sure that car park is to a hotel or something (wedding cars have gone there a few times in other videos), I'm sure they'd have a bar, restaurant or something like that.
Edit; The entrance the blue Transit went into.
Coffee shop :)
You're an entrepreneur, that's a wonderful idea
I’d imagine a recovery vehicle would do quite well there too
1:17 The poor clutch on the red Mazda 😭
Keeping the revs high
It won't be that bad, but i wouldn't make a habit of it.
Ive always wondered what happens when you get alot of water on the clutch and flywheel, I guess this answers it haha slipping like crazy, I assume You would need to remove the gearbox to re-lubricate the throwout bearing carrier etc, and there is probably alot of dirt and maybe rust in the bellhousing now, And the clutch plate probably needs to be replaced i dont think they are designed to be submerged, Even then i dont doubt the gearbox and clutch would still work for another few thousand kms just less efficient.
Clutch : water-cooled.
She’s actually doing exactly as she should. Keep the revs high to keep the water out of the exhaust, but low speed to avoid sucking air in.
7:43 that was just a pure meme moment drivers going nice and slowly
Then the Range Rover driver arrives😂😂😂
15:17 moments before disaster
I said it a few times this is what I love about Adams channel you never know what you’re gonna get every week nice to have some variety please can we have some more of these fords they are awesome Highlight for me were at 7:44 and 15:18 lol
@@nickfisher8028 Yeah true but sometimes it’s gotta be done CZcams is a tough place for content creators you’ve got to mix things up To please your subs that’s why I like Adam he brings you a different video every week apart when he goes to Reading Japanese meat we all know what’s going to happen the police are going to turn up and shut it down but you never know what’s gonna happen before that it could get hectic it could not that’s why we love it so much
@@nickfisher8028 Ironically the video you have shared is by someone that jumped on the bandwagon of someone else that was filming at Rufford ford first...
5:02 looked like she might have trouble in that little car, then she nailed it w/ perfect technique, accelerating midway thru to stay right behind the bow wave & keep the revs up! 10/10, great job!
with Adams commentary it feels like watching this on Eurosport 😂
RIP VR6 😭
I wish I lived in one of those houses next to the thing, you would never get bored, and you would probably have an infinite supply of number plates and undertrays lol
We need a 24 hour live stream so we don’t miss any of the action!
I saw a pic of someone who collected them, they had like 40
Why would you want a supply of undertrays!?
@@stevejones1318 why not?
Love this, looking forward to seeing part 2 :D That poor R32 😭
Only knobheads drive golfs even though they're nice looking cars
7:40 was the best sequence of events ever
I came here with my grandad all the time about 15 years ago and took videos of him going through the Ford brings back memories. Mad to think that there is thousands of people watching this place now on CZcams
Even more strange that they did not decide to raise the roadway and put a culvert under.
I bet it would be a good deal if insurance companies got together and paid for that.
They should just livestream this area all day
Genius
The schadenfreude is unbearably high with me whenever someone wants to show off full-speed and killing his engine with it right after
A fellow german I see…
*schadensfreude :D
What
No direct english translation, effectively means joy through someone elses misfortune@@mooiboyace
15:17 killed me 😂 watch it on 0.25x speed you see how much water actually comes flying 😂
The BMW iX clearly did better than the Tesla that passed when the cameras looked back at the water
7:39 "it seems that today most cars that go slowly tend to be alright"
*Range Rover ploughs through right after*
There basically cockroach of the car world 😂😂
The red Mazda at 1:15 nailed it. Drove through slowly, whilst slipping the clutch to keep the revs up, to reduce the chance of water flowing too far up the exhaust.
Edit: As I finished typing that and unpaused the video, you said exactly the same as me - nailed it. Great minds :D
If I was in that area, I’d rather take the 4 mile diversion everytime rather than risk doing major damage to my cars engine or electrical equipment. Some people or drivers just don’t have a clue
Unless you have something like a Navara, Ranger, or one of those Range Rovers, it's reckless and even then it's only risk-free in shallow water.
@@Eibarwoman I’m amazed at the amount of vehicle drivers who just plough through this deep river in a village and expect there vehicles to be okay . Your engine can’t compress water through any air intake . Just stupidity
@@Rayfaedundee Yea, I mean it's their fault to destroy their own car and the consequences of it xD
@@Eibarwoman even with those vehicles I would bet the differential breather pipes would need extending to keep them above the water to stop water entering the diffs.
RIP to that R32 though,
From how the lights were flickering i feel like a good chunk of the electronics are fried, And the snapped rod to top it off.
Such a shame :( Hopefully it'll get fixed but it's probably a lot of work and pretty expensive at that point
Its not really a shame its plain stupidity
@@qzickx8009 Its a shame because they killed a highly loved collectable car in a really dumb way. Its not a shame for the idiot owner hope they burn in hell for their crimes against cars.
The flickering lights are from the starter motor trying to turn over a hydro locked engine. Although he said the noise was from a snapped rod, it could be the starter motor cog slipping off the flywheel.
@@qzickx8009 on part of the city for not building a bridge smh
I have no sympathy for the R32 driver. They obviously need to learn how to drive right in something like that flood and now they have learned the hard way. It's only a Golf anyway. No great loss.
Rufford Ford vids are brilliant. I’m subbed to a couple of CZcamsrs who permanently video there
I wish more boy-racers would try this out. It sounded like the blue Golf put a rod through the side 😂
The R32s I've seen on breakdowns have usually broken the crankcase housing/ block at the pulley end of the engine.
@@NPC-st7zv oh yeah course mate 😂
Whenever I went to Rufford Park as a kid me and my brother would have my mum and dad waiting here for ages as we watched the cars go through on the opposite side. Love to see it again!
Drove through a big puddle once, had to change some engine sensors right after. 4 mile detour is better than risking damage.
If I were a local I would buy cars from towns away!
Very interesting crossing🤣
This is one of my favourite videos you have done Adam had me in stitches at the end
I’ve been binging these ford videos lol. Cool to see you there as well Adam.
Never thought it all my time I'd see AdamC at Rufford Ford lol
I took more care of my R32 driving around in the PlayStation game Need For Speed Underground than this muppet does in real life!
I love how you did the spiny thing and tell the MX5 driver to double back.. but didn’t with the R32. Well damn great spotting haha
Tbh the R32 probably could’ve made it through if he’d gone a bit slower
The MX5 is so low that would destroy it instant, the R32 is higher at least
just shows how most people have no idea how a car works and never heard of an airfilter...
so simple to drive through it....
Not gonna cap, idk why I find this entertaining
Brilliant video! I love Rufford vids!
Bet the R32 driver cried that night
Shouldn't have a license to be fair
good muhahaha 😂😂
Years ago, long before I could drive, I learned that when driving through deep water you want to push the bow wave in front of your bonnet. I feel like I shouldn't be surprised how many people don't know this... But I'm still surprised.
There were, however, a few vehicles in this video who executed the crossing with perfect form.
The narration on this video made what was becoming a very boring subject very pleasurable and interesting to watch again. Well done Adam, thank you for the time you put in and for sharing, great job. 👍+ 🔔
Thank you :)
Please do this again, so entertaining
As mentioned at the end, there will be a part 2
15:19 bloody hell I thought that was sped up 😂
Very sad to see the R32 get hydrolocked. Would have thought someone who would buy such a car would have more brains...
Just found these videos now we sit here a bunch of people and streaming this videos during Dinner as a entertainment show. And the commentary just make this better it’s like looking at English sports or something 😊
This has made me realize how much of a child I still am. I enjoyed this too much
15:16 this is so legendary 😂😂😂
I have never seen so many blown headgaskets in 1 vid! Love it!
Adam, you should film more of these, this is fun to watch
Definitely some steam cleaned pistons there! I wonder if anyone tries going through in reverse to protect the intake
Been through that in my Abarth 595. Its not an issue if you take it slowly, although that MX5 was probably too low. Would've lost his front splitter
Entirely depends on how deep it is. Morons will try it when it's over 3ft deep lol.
Living in Indonesia, this is quite a common occurrence (flood instead of ford though), especially in rainy season (as expected I guess).
So it's quite wild for me that someone made a video as if this is something special lol.
Also TIL that Golf R32 is really weak lol. One time when I was a kid, my dad went through a flood with a similar water lever through quite a long road (or at least longer than this ford) with a '91 Mazda 323 Interplay. It survived to this day, now with me using it as a daily driver.
That was fun! Loving the content variations!
Quoting the case of the original Destruction Derby;
"This ain´t the drag strip, this is the place cars go to die"
hi Adam it's Sonny, my dad has the blue Charger, we met at Knebworth......I really love your videos and I live quite close to Rufford ford and I like to go and watch these cars destroy themselves too!!🤣 thanks for posting this, it makes me laugh. Sonny, age 7.🙂
That ending was hilarious.. hope the cam was OK 🤣
well worth checking were your air intake is when you get a new car, my old cmax was hidden in the wing somewhere, whereas my Toyota hiace van was well up near the bonnet at about 3 foot
I came across some flooding under a railway bridge last week. It was probably only 18 inches deep but i remembered laughing at these videos, and didn't want to be that driver so I went the long way. My engine is now not broken:)
apparently a lamborghini drove through
7:39 "it seems that today most cars that go slowly tend to be all right"
literally less then 10 seconds later
*Range Rover going mach 3 has entered the chat*
Welcome to our area! Glad you had a fun day filming here!
I live in south east asia and there is a part of the city where this happen after heavy rain. Entertaining to watch as well as cross it with an e-bike which ironically goes through it with ease
The greatest tourist attraction yet, I'd pay to camp in a tent just to watch this for a day
If this was in the USA you'd see trucks with snorkles blasting through at high speeds. Also the occasional stop in the middle to do an underwater burnout! lol
Adam you have a natural talent for commentary. Hope someone discovers you. Job well done🎉
Thank you :)
Those that go slowly don't get Adam soaked 😁
Ive been waiting for this day my entire life and I didnt even knew it
Absolutely brilliant and very entertaining 👍🙂👍
Great vid on a thing that happens every day , very entertaining and Satisfying ..
The Golf R32 moment was heartbraking.
He knew that the car has slow clearance but he didn't noticed that the water was deep. 💔
I hope this R32 can be repaired.
They’ve obviously asked to blur the reg so that they can sell it in without anyone knowing it’s been swimming
@@nevillebloodybartos The registration of the R32 is K25KAG. Still showing as insured as of today. If they don't want their stupidity publicised they shouldn't do it in public czcams.com/video/5FF2PYcj8A8/video.html
Yeah it was sad to watch, it sounded like something snapped, broke or bent in the engine when he tried to start the engine after it hydro-locked, I highly doubt insurance would pick up the bill for that so unless the owner is willing to pay the bill for the repair/engine rebuild then unfortunately it would likely be a write-off.
It's one saving grace is that it's a rare car so the owner would probably want to keep it or at least sell it on to somebody prepared to do the repairs.
Not to worry it was just an old Volkswagen, not something that would make anyone really sad.
@@JohnDoe-bd5sz The R32 is one of the rarest Golf ever made
Never thought he was going to do THIS!!!
there's a ford like this just outside my town, eventually the council got fed up of having to tow people out of it so they put a gate across it in the end and you have to go the long way round now.
I've only just started following you on Facebook now you pop up on CZcams and you visit the ford which is 15 minutes down the road for me lol
Never thought you would go to Rufford ford🙂👍
Great Video
The commentary is what makes these video's always so enjoyable!
Always enter steady and then speed up enough to create a bow wave that will push the water away from your intake. People smashing into the water is just propelling water through the grill to smash the plastic fans and destroy other components. Not to mention air intakes can be placed just above the wheel arch.
Very interesting change up Adam!
This area used to be a quiet place for families to take their children out for the day to walk the countryside and to watch the cars drive through the ford whilst enjoying an ice cream.. This will soon be ruined, concreted/bridged over and gone forever.. To many youtubers giving this place the spotlight and making it a busy and anti social area. Not a rant just feedback.
Sounds plenty like a rant because you're upset you can't watch people destroy their cars anymore.
Yeh, definitely a rant.
It’s baffling how people think flying through water is the way to do it. Absolutely no idea how a car works
The faster the better mate
This is such a great idea for a vid! Nice one Ad!
Great commentary !
I wonder if driving through backwards would be better to stop getting water in the engine.
Many, many years ago my mum drove through a really deep flood in an '83 Skoda Estelle. Water was coming over the bonnet and round the screen, no problems at all.
Water could get up your exhaust thow 🤔😳
Depends on the depth, if the air intake is going to get submerged regardless then no but if your bow wave is going to be what causes the issue then maybe. A lot of people who end up in trouble here just go too fast and turn an otherwise wadable depth into an engine drowning disaster. Check the depth, check how low your intake sits, approach slowly and wait for the ripple to settle before proceeding at a slow but constant pace.
I think anyone who drives through at speed is backwards or special needs case
@@49cchris
Not sure it would as exhaust gasses are coming out of it.
Adam at Rufford? Oh, yeah! I'll watch that!
I'd like to see someone doing a burnout on the edge of the Ford. That would be interesting...
I go here a lot and get wet on the bridge that your on! I remember one time a ford s-max went through and his back bumper went of it was so funny
Adam this is entertaining as fuck mate, have sat and watched cars drive through a ford near Castle Acre in Norfolk before a few years back while taking the dog for a walk somewhere new, this ford was deeper than it looked and over the course of an hour, I think 5 cars got stuck, only 2 made it out! Keep the videos coming me laddo! Top work!
Nice video, Adam. You really are the David Attenborough of cars!
Lots of drivers seem to get angry being filmed lol
Brilliant,another fun video.
Nice to see something different like this.
Mine would just be a submarine😬
Hele grappige video Adam !! 🤣🤣
The really sad thing is that this ford can be bypassed entirely in a shade over three miles via proper dual carriageway. There's also basically nothing else on that road past the ford save for a few houses.
For 99% of people there's zero reason to even go that way and much of this is so easily avoided.
Most people use it to connect to a golf club
I mean it connects the 614 to Wellow road without having to fuck about going through eakring or ollerton so it makes sense why so many people go down there
I was just following my sat nav...i'd never herd of Rufford Ford! MIne was the red EV..no probs..
Watched this Ford content for years, cars going through at high speeds, always wondered why would you do that? 🤔
7:38 perfect timing!
I love that you’ve visited here 👌
It's always impressive how much torque the starter motor has enough to bend and snap rods if the engine is full of water
More than likely the rods are already bent before even attempting to restart the engine....... Bear in mind that the normal operating temperature of the piston crown on a petrol engine is around 300° Celcius, so as soon as the water enters the cylinder, it is most likely turning to steam and expanding rapidly as the piston is trying to compress it (and any water in liquid form will not compress anyway)....... It is no wonder why con rods get bent.......
The Ben guy was the one that makes a lot of content like this
And Tom too
Sorry Adam, but that BMW near the end had me in stitches. 🤣👍
7:45 Range Rover: How about a cooling splash? **SPLASHING SOUNDS AND WATER HITTING ADAM**
If you don't know: A lot of cars have their air intake low down (often around the wheel arch)... If water gets sucked into the engine and makes its way to the cylanders there's a real problem: Air compresses but water doesn't, so when water gets into the cylanders it can't compress which causes the pistons and engine to blow themselves to bits... That's the hydro-locking that our excellent narrator keeps mentioning.
Thank you, the best explanation I've seen in most of the comments.
The idea is to go slow and don’t have all the water coming up the bonnet and high enough to get int air intake
It always a good idea to learn where the intake is too
The one thing that can be learned from these videos is that slow and steady means most cars can easily make it through. Wouldn't like to try it in an Elise, simply because it'd try to float, but most normal cars driven gently are fine.
Did once drive through a flood this deep in a Rover 623 when some melon decided to overtake me in a 4x4 because he was impatient. Thankfully got away with it, and I gave him a furious bollocking when I caught up with him at the next stop...
I wish my town had one it would be great for cleaning the mud and salt off in winter
15:19 thank me later 🤣🤣🤣🤣
