  • The Serenova Tract is located in the Starkey Wilderness Area in Pasco County, Florida. It’s a beautiful place to roam the woods and experience some of old Florida. It’s a nice place for hiking, biking, horseback riding and camping. Along the way I discover an area where a cabin used to stand. All that remains of it today is the chimney and some other traces from it around the area. The site is fenced off to help it keep it protected and what history still remains. It dates back to the early to mid 1900’s. Imagine the memories made out here long ago. Such a scenic and peaceful place in the woods here. Besides seeing some of the history it’s nice to experience the wilderness and wildlife here. The surrounding areas outside the preserve are rapidly being developed so it’s important to keep places like this preserved for future generations and to help protect the wildlife habitats and ecosystems along with the history. Enjoy the adventure and thank you for watching!

Enjoyed this segment. I hiked much of the Sernova Tract about 20 years ago. I was scouting it for a teacher workshop on the Cotee River. Later I came back with the teachers and we collect critter and did water quality analysis in the river where the two roads cross through the riverine swamp. We had a good time and learned a lot about the river. The next day we explored twosomes within the Starky Park area.

just having access to rocks/stones is rare in an area like that. I remember seeing rocks in a creek in green swamp once.

The Serenova tract was originally part of the Moon Lake Gardens and Dude Ranch. The chimney is from one of the old hunting cabins.

The area was also used as a Boy Scout camp before the SWFWMD acquisition. The power lines fed a large dock that was eventually demolished.

I was born and raised in that area , worked next place east of there for ol John Faircloth at Fairhaven Farm. Believe that land where the preserve is , was owned by the Cone brothers then , used to sneak on their ranch to fish and hunt . Lived out off of Hays Rd. Didn't even have electric out there yet 😁
