Surprising how helpful this video is! I got several good ideas and product recommendations. Thank you Ian!
Glad you enjoyed it! I’ll be doing more product reviews so stay tuned! Safe riding!
Great suggestion. Going to add some old tyre into my saddle bag now. Thanks !!!
Better to have it and not need it! Plus it makes me feel better about throwing out my tires that cost as much as car tires but don’t last nearly as long 😂. Happy new year and safe riding! Thanks for watching!
I have a lezyne 13 in 1 that has a tire plug and chain tool built in, park mini patch kit with rubber cement and an extra valve core, some generic bright red lever, a co2, pdw ninjapump that also works for co2 canisters. i just have a normal spare tube in my bag but will get a tpu tube at some point probably.
If only they have that tool with the dyna plug it would be perfect. That’s the only thing it’s missing! The TPU is just nice because it give me alittle more room for emergency carbs and cash on endurance rides. Safe riding!
Nice review...👍
So glad you liked it! Safe riding and Happy new year:)
We almost have the same set up!!
Yes to Dynaplug as bacon strip keep falling off.
Wow frame pump is old school. I converted to CO2 as I never have the muscle to deal with small pump. (3x CO2 on my ride).
TPU also work well. I use Revoloop on my old non-tubeless bike and it been there for over a year now. Recently purchase RideNow as spare but never use them yet (they were on sales)
I also take the ParkTool tire boot so I dont have to worry about the rubber glue
Thanks for mention Reserve Fillmore valve, I did start look into that as my standard DT Swiss keep clogging up. Thinking of replace them but not pull the trigger yet (they are $$$)
Same setup usually means you’ve went through your fair share of things that didn’t work lol! The frame pump was something I started using because after switching to tubeless a lot of the sealant didn’t react well to the co2 but after using it so much I don’t think I can go back, maybe if I was doing a hill climbing race lol and need every gram it just pumps a tire up so fast, plus my riding friends all appreciate it 😂How do you like the park tool tire boot? Have you had to use it before, was thinking about trying them. The Fillmore valves have been amazing for me, even after using them on countless wheels, they just never clog and clean up so easily but the first purchase does hurt the wallet lol. Happy New Year and safe riding!
I’ve switched over to tyre glider which is superior to any lever. Never going back!
Always wanted to try this one, but never met anyone who’s had one, maybe it’s time I give it shot! Does it fit well in your saddle pack? Thanks for watching, safe riding and happy new year!
@@ian_pedalz very compact, about the same as 2 levers. I’ve got conti gp5000 which has always given me problems getting the tire back on. Literally takes me 3 minutes to get the tire mounted.
@@paulyoshihara7261 GP5000s are a good test for tire levers, I’m definitely gunna give this a try, for 15$ it’s worth checking out! I have some old strada biancas I’d love to test the lever on, those tires are theeeee absolute worst to get on.
@@ian_pedalz my experience is that the lever works best for getting the tire back on (which is the hard part!). Not so much removing the tire. Good luck!
@@paulyoshihara7261 yeah it’s always the getting back on that’s the issue, I should have mine tomorrow, excited to try it, thanks for the recommendation!
I have had butyl tube patches save me on more than one multiple-flat occasion and have not heard of the patches for TPU tubes being all the way fail proof just yet. Any experience? Nice video
The one thing I can say about TPU tubes is in order for the patch to seal or stick to the tube, is the tube needs to be free of any sweat or debris, it really needs a clean surface. It’s more finicky for sure. If I happen to puncture one I’ll take a video of how it takes the patch! Glad you liked it, thanks for watching:) safe riding and happy new year!
Dynaplug makes a bar end double point thing that keeps the bag more roomy. Topeak tire levers are bigger and stronger but don’t fit in my Silca bag so untie it to the top of my bag with a pipe cleaner
Topeak tire levers are awesome, I just can’t get them to fit in any of my saddle bags either, and if I was still using Challenge Strada Bianca’s it would be my only choice for tire lever as those tires are painfully tight. I’m guessing you’ve broken a lever or two before lol. I like the bar end plugs also! On my titanium bike the handlebars are custom from James Black sheep so they can’t fit a conventional bar end that well and my enve all road handlebars have the silly built in flaps they call bar ends. I do run them on my bikepacking rig tho, Dynaplug doesn’t make a single bad thing in my experience! Happy New Year and safe riding!
@@ian_pedalz get your LBS to cut off the bar end tips. It will fit in then. My DI2 charge port is in the other
@@uknowbass I’ve thought about chopping them, but not until I lose a dyna plug so I can justify buying another one lol. Right now I have to many dynaplugs and not enough bikes 😅. Safe riding!
Can you please put a link where one can buy these bags
Put both links in the description but be sure to check your local bike shop! Always good to support local😊
I really like my Silca Matone but I also think the BOA strap is it"s weak point - personal opinion. For me it's to grippy for fast and easy removal so I have replaced it with a Voile strap.
How do you like the voile? Do you use the regular or mini? I might have to try that, my BOA is on its last legs!
@@ian_pedalz I use the version available here in Germany that are branded fixplus. They are only 1" thick, much thinner than the BOA strap but it keeps the bag where it needs to be.
@@manueldeubler1127 probably holds the saddle pack more adequately since the strap is textured in a way that seems like it would hold on the saddle rails and pack more effectively. Going to give that a try! It’s also cheaper than the replacement boa strap which I like lol, thanks for the tip! Subscribe if you like this kind of content! Safe riding!
Highway robbery for those bags - paying $40 - $60 for something that literally cost them $2 (in bulk 500-1000) to have them make over in China. R&D maybe 5% of MSRP, shipping/import another couple of percent - figure they're netting at least 80% of it. Cycling accessory industry is RIPE for disruption.
The cost for a lot of things pertaining to cycling is through the roof, but starting to go down. Ortlieb I happen to be a fan of because their customer service is excellent, and they will replace and ship pieces all over the world. So for those who do bike touring or bikepacking this can be really helpful! What do you like to use for your saddle bag?
