      @@blondebier still my favorite sealant. The only thing I’ve done differently is added old dried up sealant (kind of chopped up into small pieces) to the tire when I replace it or replenish the sealant. It works really well to clog bigger punctures and it doesn’t cost me anything extra and it doesn’t make a mess which is nice. I’m going to be trying black ox sealant and Milkit next. Getting the angle right is probably the only hard thing in that it takes a bit of time but it’s easy to do. I started in small increments, I did 5mm of drop, 10mm of drop and than 15mm and I tried 20mm of drop (nose down) but immediately didn’t like that (to much pressure on my wrists)and ultimately decided on the middle point between 10-15mm at 12.5mm of drop. This has the saddle in the perfect position for me. To be honest bother 10 and 15mm were really comfortable so I could of ended the trial much sooner, but I figured why not just meet in the middle.

    Curious to find out how you get along with this saddle. I take it you don’t have other Selle SMP saddles, am I correct? Would love to find out how it compares to the Dynamic, Drakon (same shape but a bit more padding than the dynamic) and regular F30. Dynamic is on my old roadbike, drakon on my mtb, F30 I didn’t really get along with. However it’s wider then both drakon and dynamic and perhaps a bit more comfortable in a more upright position. The F30C si appears to be a little less flat than the F30 and caught my eye a few weeks ago. I hope that it will combine the best parts of both the dynamic and F30… Want to try a saddle without padding and have the F30C si on my shortlist. Together with the Forma (same platform as the dynamic but 0 padding, (Full) Carbon Lite - again the same shape but saddle from carbon fibre or this F30C si.. FWIW, in my opinion Selle SMP is the golden standard for ergonomic saddles, and have been for a very long time. I think a lot of people dismiss these for their odd shape but they are genuinely fantastic and many people don’t realize what they are missing. So I’d love a full carbon lite, but i’m afraid

    • @ian_pedalz
      @ian_pedalz Před 9 měsíci

      This is my first SMP saddle, I will be taking out a drakon and dynamic for demo next week to do a comparison. I took this saddle out for a quick ride yesterday as the bike is fully built, only about 20 minutes worth of riding to make sure everything is working well and despite this saddle having no padding, I honestly didn’t notice it at all(a very good thing I think). As far as being the most ergonomic as of now I can definitely agree. The saddle holds you in place but not in an oppressive way but in a way that kind of cradles the sit bones and pelvis. I’ll take it out again for a 20 mile ride today to make any small adjustments and then I’ll take it for a 100 mile to get a true opinion. Thanks for watching and subscribe if you like this kind of stuff, I’ll be doing some on the road reviews of the saddle soon!

      @@BenSietzeso I’ve tried the drakon and I’m waiting for the dynamic but so far the F30C SI with it’s shorter nose and no padding is much more comfortable. The nylon shell on it offers the perfect amount of flex and I’m getting none of the traditional pain I would get previously. It will definitely be a staple saddle for me. I thoroughly enjoy the short nose as well being 6’ 185lbs and someone who weight trains my thighs (specifically my adductors) enjoy the additional clearance it provides! I’m trying the sqlabs 612R now so I’ll be taking an extended video talking about all the saddles I’ve purchased!

    • @BenSietze
      @BenSietze Před 8 měsíci

      I’m still on the fence with this one. I’m a 6’4” of give or take 200lb / 90 kg myself. The Drakon that I started with and the dynamic work very well. The original F30 not so much. But in a more upright position I like the extra width of the F30. Like to think that this F30csi is somewhere in between the Dynamic and F30. But I’m also toying with the idea of the full carbon lite which is basically the carbon non padded version of the dynamic. Saddle will be installed on my all-road bike. 95% used on the road, but some of that is in pretty poor shape. At the moment running my old dynamic on that bike but want to return that to my old bike. How do you think this saddle without padding will do on a gravel bike? One more thing - what’s your take on the carbon rails vs the regular stainless steel rails? Does it provide a noticeable comfort increase or is it all about the weight? Steve Hogg - his blog actually steered me towards SMP about 8 years ago - writes that it adds compliance, but reading on several forums many believe it’s all about the weight. No noticeable difference in comfort. Cheers!

    As soon as you get home from a ride where you had a puncture you should let out all the CO2 air and fill your tire with a regular bike pump. Then your sealant should survive.

    • @ian_pedalz
      @ian_pedalz Před 9 měsíci

      I’ve had good luck doing this with Stan’s and orange seal but the Silca turns into a gel like substance and doesn’t seem like it has the viscosity to find a puncture anymore. What type of sealant do you prefer using? Always looking for recommendations!

  • @munrowheels

    Once mixed orange with stans by accident as the client said it was stans and than after adding sealant turned out to be orange. Told him to report when issues appeared but he never mentioned anything so I assume it worked fine. Would love to know more about mixing though. Probably depends on the ingredients

    • @ian_pedalz
      @ian_pedalz Před 9 měsíci

      I recently added some Stan’s to my orange seal and I didn’t get a huge color change from what I noticed on the last puncture but the last puncture sealed well so it leads me to believe those two can be mixed. I think the biggest problem with mixing is if the sealant you’re adding has a lot ammonia in it.

  • @bihlygoat

    Wish I had watched this before I switched to Silca sealant! I noticed when I poured it in that the carbon fibers seemed to all clump together. Now I see that they are probably all near my bead seals, without many left to actually fill punctures. I already had it take a long time to seal a small thorn hole. 😡

    • @ian_pedalz
      @ian_pedalz Před rokem

      It would be nice if the carbon fiber pieces could be added dry, to help save the mess and allow the sealant to be injected. Conceptually it seems like it would work well but as it stands , it’s messy and performs poorly.

      @@ian_pedalz You never want to deal with bare carbon fibers in your life, trust me ☹️. You need full body protection including a respirator to do so. What I’m noticing is that you can mix sealants that both use synthetic latex and same for natural latex but mixing a sealant with natural and one with synthetic is when the addition of ammonia (in the natural latex sealant) interferes with the coagulation properties of the synthetic latex sealant. Hope this helps and I made sense of it lol safe riding!
