      +Cody Hoard You're welcome. I have a couple tutorials in mind, it's just my clients come first and I'm slammed most of the time.

    • @CodyHoard253
      @CodyHoard253 Před 8 lety

      Totally understand, bro. Right now I'm trying to get clients. Kinda getting discouraged, any suggestions? If ya have time :)

    • @claybutler
      @claybutler  Před 8 lety +2

      +Cody Hoard Well, I'm almost 50 years old, and I've been working professionally since I was 17 in one form of another (way before computers and way, way, before the web) So I don't remember how I got here specifically. I just hustled constantly, always gave the client more than they asked for, never left a client unhappy even if it meant losing money, and refused to sacrifice my values and dignity for a buck. That doesn't mean being difficult or arrogant. It just means behaving as if you a serious human being worthy of respect and then earning that status every day.
      I'm also really enjoy learning new things and operating just at the edge of my abilities. I find that thrilling. If you surf, skateboard or mountain bike, it's that moment when you almost eat it, but you get it under control at the most critical moment and then finish the ride with grace and style.
      I like try to live my whole life like that. The end result is, in twenty or thirty years, you end up with this crazy assortment of skills because you're always looking for a challenge.
      However, most people are more comfortable mastering a specific skill and then repeating that over and over. It has a certain zen like comfort to be totally in control. It's just not for me. I'm too restless.
      My latest project over the last two years has been negotiating the purchase our our mobile home park. I've been president of the homeowners association for 14 years and it's an 11 million dollar deal.
      Two years I didn't know jack about purchasing a multi-million dollar piece of real estate. Now I know this stuff backward and forward (events of default, defaults, foreclosure, non judicial foreclosure, commercial loan standard, the difference between a 1033 and and 1031 tax exchange, etc). It's pretty exciting. All while I'm supporting my family and running my own design business.
      So that's my advice. Just focus on what's in front of your face, kill it, and don't get caught up in comparing yourself to others. When you see an opportunity grab it. Figure out what kind of lifestyle you need to be happy and then make little decisions everyday that will get you to that place.
      There's always someone who's making more money, has bigger clients, and has more talent than you. Don't get caught up that bullshit. Define what success means on your own terms.

      +Clay Butler Thank you for that, Clay. After reading this, I couldn't agree more. You really hit it on the head.
      Honestly, I do find myself comparing to others, and seeing all the great work out there. But, you are right. Don't get caught up in that. Thanks for your time and response bro. Means a lot!

    Can I have a custom brush stroke and make it fit and stay within a shape? Can not seem to figure that out in illustrator cc. Thanks for your tutorials, it is helping me tremendously !

    • @claybutler
      @claybutler  Před 9 lety

      I think if you set the brush setting so it doesn't take into consideration pressure and tilt and keeps a fixed width it should be fine.

    Hi Clay, great tutorials, I was wondering what method you use to get the nice soft edges on the shading of the arms in the logo? Like the highlights.

    • @claybutler
      @claybutler  Před 8 lety

      +Michael Vaughan Effect > Stylize > Feather...play around with the settings until it looks right. The shape is still vector so it's a pretty cool and print friendly effect

    Can i use this same concept to make letters? For example is it possible to use those eyeballs and arrange them into letters ?

    • @claybutler
      @claybutler  Před 5 lety

      Yes, you can make a brush out of any object that has flat colors ( no gradients)
