I've cobbled together my inking and coloring process from several different sources over the last few years. here is my process for how I quickly finish my art.
The line overshooting and breaking apart I learned from Clay Butler's video

When you're cleaning up the overshot lines, couldn't you...instead of the Expand, Make and Expand step... go to Object/Path/Outline Stroke and then the Pathfinder/Divide function? That's what I've always done but I'm wondering if there's a specific advantage to your method.
When doing the highlights I've been using gradients, so when it gets to the edge it blends out.
Could you also do a tutorial on how to make a watercolor-like painting?
This is amazing.... Only confusion after using make command I am unable to paint on each object separately. It shows whole object as a block.
Incredible!
Very useful
This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you! I notice the thread here about Photoshop and Illustrator and they really are SPECIFICALLY designed for two VERY DIFFERENT purposes. If you want good vector DRAWINGS that aren't pixelated you want ILLUSTRATOR.
Awesome ... ❤❤
THANK YOU!!!
Great tutorial. The length didn't bother me at all!
(Inking)
Exquisite tutorial Brad; I've watched numerous tutorials on how to achieve this in Illustrator and you've done it the best, bar none.
Amazing tutorial, Brad! I've watched this video a couple of years ago, but watching it again (now with more Illustrator experience) made so much more sense! Appreciate it!
THIS WAS A LIFE SAVER! This cut about 40 minutes for me on the designs I was working with.
Thanks for the wonderful tutorial. I have watched other ones, but this one explains what some menu options do in a nice, breezy way.
This is brilliant thank you so much. I didn't not know you could group and ungroup vertices like that to quickly defeat overlay. I can even cut short my drawing time by hours. Those highlight and shadow techniques are magnificent, great work man, this makes me feel confident in the learning process.
So your tutorial changed my life. It's been a hardcore new trick to learn, but it's soooooooooooo worth it. I'm so grateful. Thank you !
this is by far the best method I've seen and the clearest instructions. some use the slice tool for the highlights and shadows but that doesn't work for me because I'm not very confident in placing the light and shadow and if i slice it it's harder to reverse the process later. thanks for sharing
Super Tutorial! Very clean and clear. I paused it several times, just to try the techniques out for myself! Thank you - keep it up!
