    Another thing to remember (when gauging the crowd reaction) is that this concert went on for hours and hours. many bands and singers had a slot. That is ... this was not a crowd made up entirely of Queen fans - it was very much a mixture of fans of many genres - which makes their reaction all the more astonishing.

    You wanna talk speechless. I was a young army guy stationed at FT Bragg North carolina the day this concert aired. I was at a buddys apartment . We had had a cookout , and several of us were munching on food , and cutting up when Queen came on stage. Slowly as if by magic when they began the room suddenly fell silent and Freddie had all of our attention . When they were finished, we sat in silence a moment ..no one said a word for what seemed like an eternity...we just looked at each other until one finally spoke up and said ..."Damn.........That was unbelievable...I think I need another beer". Yeah ...This was undoubtedly the greatest live show any band had ever performed. It was said that David Bowie was backstage watching , waiting his turn to come on , and he was heard to say," How the Hell am I supposed to follow that "?!

    At the time of Live Aid I was serving in the British Royal Marine Commandos in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. We listened to it on the radio. We were surrounded by the full horror of the Famine, but when Queen came on the radio those poor soles who were there even reacted in a very positive way. I remember that a lot of us Royal Marine Commandos were crying watching some of the children dancing along, I'm teary eyed just remembering. I looked around at men I had fought alongside, who were tough, hardened Royal Marine Commandos who had fought a life and death war against Argentinian's in 82. By the end of Queen's set we were dancing with the children. It went along way to help build their trust in us. The famine is only one of many terrible memories I have from 34 years of active service, and 2 years hospitalisation. But when I remember the smiles on the children's faces, and their laughter at the terrible way we danced always reminds me that humanity will always find it's way through even the worst of times. I only watched it for the first time last year, my son put it on the TV. A lot of memories came back and a lot of tears.
    My amazing Wife took me to see Queen at Wembley, U.K., in 1986 two weeks after I got back from Ethiopia as a surprise. I saw Queen live 6 times in all, they were incredible live. And yes, I am an old fart.

    @larrywt656 Před 3 lety +6

    This wasn't even a Queen crowd. Queen was a last minute addition to the show, after all the tickets had been sold. Live Aid was a day-long benefit music festival with MANY acts, each of whom were given a 20-minute set. The day began at London's Wembley Stadium (seen here) and ended at Philadelphia's JFK Stadium (seen in the aerial shot at the very end of this video). During the middle of the day, the show went back and forth between the two venues. There were about 77,000 people at Wembley and over 100,000 at JFK (including me, a 21-year-old college kid at the time...watching this performance from Wembley on the big screens). Freddie was suffering from laryngitis on this day (which is why you can hear his voice crack a few times toward the end) and he was told not to sing that day by his doctors, but he did anyway...and it was a show for the ages!! Freddie completely took the show over and never looked back! David Bowie was backstage waiting for his set. As Freddie walked off stage, David asked him "How the HELL am I supposed to follow THAT!!??" In Philly, we were all hoping something would happen that night on our stage that would top the Queen show, but it didn't. Even the Led Zeppelin reunion with Phil Collins on drums that night was disappointing in comparison.

    There were 72,000 there and Freddie was sick with a throat infection he went against Dr's orders to be there he said his throat felt like he was gargling with crushed glass while singing and he still crushed it they are epic

    Freddie dashed out - didn't turn his back to the fans til he sat down at his piano. I've watched this hundreds of times perhaps - first time realising his constant attn to them. Freddie was simply the best entertainer.

    Wow, amazing reaction to an epic live event. I really hope you will stay on the Queen train. Many reactors react to Bohemian Rhapsody or We will Rock You, and thats it. They were way to exeptional and diverse imho. I suggest Who wants to live forever live at Budapest. It is from the movie Highlander. Much bless youngman.

    72,0000 people at Wembley, another 100,000 in Philadelphia, and 1,2 billion watching on TV globally. The Olympics have 3 satellites...Live Aid had 13. I wasn't a Queen fan at all, but after that day..I was lol! The world for Africa!
    I remember it was very hot that day in Wembley Stadium July 13th 1985 but it was worth it, best day in my life! 👏👏🇳🇱

    Wembley in London, where Queen played, has about 70,000 seats, but add in all those people in the centre. The very last shot is not Wembley, it is JFK Stadium in Philadelphia which seats about 90,000. The concert flipped back and forth between the two places for most of the day. I was at Wembley; it was hot that day. Music went from noon to 10pm in London and continued on in the US, though I think the US joined the concert about noon their time in Philly (not sure). There is a really good documentary about Live Aid on CZcams, made for the 35th anniversary I think.

    Greetings from Australia.
    This is the Best Reaction Video I've seen for the following reason:
    You made Queen the main focus frame whilst in other CZcams videos, Queen has been in the smaller frame, with the attention going to the reviewer. Thanks for doing that.
    This is a performance where the whole group gave 100 percent. They went into lockdown for one week to rehearse, and it showed. Whilst other groups just went in without proper rehearsal and because they were doing a charity gig, you could tell that they were below par.
    The members of Queen had the right mindset because they gave a professional performance, and they knew at this time that it would probably be Freddy's Swan Song. He would have had the diagnosis by this time.
    This will never be done again. You couldn't get insurance for a gig of this magnitude where there were about 83,000 people in the stadium.
    This is my era, and I was about your age when Queen were at their height.
    Queen is probably the best band of all time. Thanks for the video.
