  • If you want to find diamonds, I will explain in this video which is the best diamond ore for finding them. Please join me now at the diamondiferous, lamproite deposit known as "The Worthington Diamond Mine" which is located near Southwest Arkansas' Crater of Diamonds State Park.       There are plenty of places in the west. Wyoming also has many kimberlite pipes with know diamonds.

    Thanks for mentioning the pipes in Kansas. Did you check all the locations? What excavation technique did you use? Coincidentally, I was in that specific area last week panning around the lake. I didn’t find any indicators, though I didn’t check all the locations I wanted to. Found some small quartzite and quartz. I did find one tiny stone that reflected the light better than the others, which I think is “clear quartz”, especially because I didn’t find any indicators. The deepest I dug was 2 feet at most. It was also my first time panning, and apparently it’s harder to pan for gems than gold, because gems aren’t as heavy.

      I have been to every site except Winkler, which is the largest. Bala is the worst for chances of having anything, but it is an interesting, geological feature. I had permission to go in and dig at The Stockdale Intrusion many years ago. It was LOADED with garnet and ilmenite. Here is a couple of tips: Go to the creeks that drain from these sites and dig gravel there. Also, when sorting through your gravel concentrates, put on a pair of amber sunglasses. I discovered this by accident, but that really makes the red, garnets stand out. You won't find any diamonds, though. All of the Kansas kimberlites came to the surface too slowly, and all of the diamonds completely resorbed to co2 gas. I have read reports from a doctor of geology who spent a summer studying these Kansas intrusions north of Manhattan. Thank you for watching my videos and for commenting. Happy gem hunting!!!

      It IS a funny coincidence that you were just there then you watched my video where I mentioned those kimberlite intrusion north of Manhattan, Kansas. Diamonds, garnets, and ilmenite are denser than other rocks and minerals, but not nearly as dense as gold. Still, you will find a concentration of them at the bottom of a creek.       @@genuinediamondsinar3253 That’s nice you got access to that site. I tried to drive near one of the Randolph locations, but the roads weren’t that great and I didn’t see anybody around, so I left. Do you think most of the garnets are near the sources due to their density? There’s likely not much to find around the lake than what I mentioned. My recreational efforts might be better spent elsewhere next time.

      @@FreshUF The best concentration of garnets would be directly downstream from each site. You don't have to get anyone's permission to dig at a county road culvert. I suggest you just figure out by google maps where each site is then follow the roads around the one-square-mile sections until you find the low spot, creek, or ditch that drains each one, pull over and dig there. I am confident you will find abundant garnets.

      I didn't realize that. I thought their formation required intense pressure and heat from great depths. I'm just asking, but are you certain the subduction zone didn't take carbon down to great depth to form the diamonds there?

    Hello Mr. Glenn, since the lamporite material was moving so fast during the volcanic event there, could the carbon material have been tossed let's say hundreds of miles? Does material from that volcanic event have a fingerprint? Could a large black diamond from that volcanic event have landed in a glacier hundreds of miles away to be smoothed for a while. One wonders how long it would take for a black diamond to be tilled to the bottom of a glacial flow. Im thinkin bout a couple hour drive to compare mine to get and idea if it came down from Canada in the glacier or was tossed out of that eruption down there as it may give an indicator of just how terrible the blast was.       I am glad you find my talks helpful. We do not have black diamonds here in SW AR--only white (clear), brown, and yellow. Yes, they could have been ejected a mile or so. But there has been so much erosion since they are probably in the Gulf of Mexico by now.

      @@genuinediamondsinar3253 Well Sir that narrows the list down to Canada or outer space. The story's a rock can tell. Got some white and yellowish small frys from the same glacial till. Right now I'm planning another sortie for beryl, chrysoberyl and diamonds. I don't fancy the corundum as its aluminium oxide. The silicates can sit it out too Yuk! I like the glacial/alluvial stuff. Its perfect for a lazy dabler like me. To me its interesting how you identify and extract gems from lamporite. Thanks for the geological tip and may your next run bring great finds.

      I sure would if I had that kind of money. The owners KNOW they have diamonds on that land. It's for sale if you want it and can afford it. Let me know, and I can hook you up with them. They're selling their 60 acres for $2 million. I got this 10 acres with a much smaller portion of the lamproite pie for MUCH less because the owner wasn't sure whether it had diamonds on it or not. No one had ever sampled there---until we bought it.

    So...when we get lamprolite rocks from COD can we break them down and extract diamonds from that matrix, just as you are doing here? I am confused... Has the Worthington mine got different matrix rocks or host rocks than the Crater, or what? Is this place you have just now become ripe for the picking or what? And have you found any diamonds yet?

      Our diamond ore is identical to the Crater of Diamonds. We are so very close I expect it came up from the same source 100 miles deep. Yes, there could be diamonds encased in pieces at the Crater. Our site has been covered with forest and no one has sampled here before. We had it clear cut and are the first to ever dig for diamonds here. Yes, we have found diamonds.

      I have found a lot of baby blue barite at the Crater of Diamonds. But no one has ever found a blue diamond there....yet.

      What state are you in? Most states have a geology commission or university with a geology department that all can help for free. Here we have the Arkansas Geological Survey in Little Rock.

      I've taken some college courses but never got a degree and the colleges I attended did not offer geology courses. Unfortunately, I can't go back 50 years and get a do over. I'd love to have studied geology at say the University of Colorado at Boulder and make field trips up to the diamond-bearing kimberlites of the state line district--the border of CO and WY. My wife and I went there and looked around but found a lot of locked gates and unwelcoming ranchers. College classes could have gotten in, though. But no one is mining the numerous kimberlites of the stateline district anymore. We have the only operating diamond recovery plant in the USA.

    Is it pointless & not all diamonds shine in UV light?? Could someone use UV light to find any diamonds laying on the surface or panning!?

      Your question shows you are really giving some thought to this. Thank you for posing this question. But only 27% of diamonds will fluoresce under blacklight. And, unfortunately, 100% of barite will fluoresce. Therefore, if you surface searched with a blacklight you would get a lot of false positives and miss 73% of the diamonds. So, I would not suggest doing it.
