  • The bull dozer removed the three-to-four feet of worthless, brown, clay overburden at The Worthington Diamond Mine which is near Arkansas' famous Crater of Diamonds State Park. Below that layer is three-to-four inches of rounded pebbles and cobbles with gray clay. The diamondiferous lamproite starts just below that layer. The excavator operator and I noticed a three-to-four inch layer of purplish-black mineral at the top of the lamproite deposit. The brown lamproite is a fractured, igneous rock, and this mineral on top seems to have leached down and stained the sides of our lamproite purplish black. Join me as I take a close look at numerous specimens of this mysterious mineral and propose an identification. Your comments are always welcome.

I'm sorry you feel that way. But it is not dirt. It is decomposing, diamond-bearing, igneous rock. At the Crater of Diamonds I find an average of one diamond for every 24 buckets. But I kept digging and washing because there was a chance I would find a diamond. And I have found 177 so far. But I washed a lot of "dirt" to find them.

      @@genuinediamondsinar3253 ..
Thus, my small complaint. A small 31lb box, dug from what part, is not so much going to yield much.. yes, you have just about the same igneous rock formation but some different composition.. and selling that is a bit deceiving to me.. granted, as a newbie I was excited, but I thought is was from creator mine, which would have yielded more minerals.. you link with in creator mine group caught me off, now though I know the difference.

@@PhilisophicalDad The Crater of Diamonds State Park will not mail out any of their ore. During the pandemic the mine was closed for 2 months and people could stay safe at home and still look through lamproite for diamonds. There is no difference in the composition. It is all volcanic lamproite from the same source 80-100 miles deep within the earth. I offer a video on my website explaining the offer is not from the Crater but nearby. I try not to deceive anyone. Your box of ore cost you less than the gas to drive here, entrance fee, and a motel expense.

@@genuinediamondsinar3253 I believe, personally, the composition is different in that your lacks a lot of the various minerals also found at Crater mines. Look at the "center" of any concentrate washed there, full of minerals. Yes , lamprite is there and at your location. Lamprite and diamonds are unusual. Please take no offence, but, you should separate your Worthington sales further, stating to "newbies" this is not "Crater mines" material.. as I stated, your post was on Crater, and a link to "How to fine" went to your site where the box is sold..
Experienced folks would not purchase. They are aware it can take 100 or more 5 gal buckets to maybe get a diamond.
But, I pray and hope you are able to find and mine soon your dream

@@PhilisophicalDad I have washed a lot of ore from the Crater of Diamonds and a lot from our Worthington Diamond Mine. The compositions are identical. Here is a link to a video that shows the centers from our diamond mine ore: czcams.com/video/Fvx3gd4cfKM/video.html
