Okay, NYC. Enough with the out-of-control high rents.
When I first began following Cash (during the lockdown!) the prices were so high to me, sitting here on the Southside of Atlanta, but still reasonable. It's NYC, after all.
But these prices now are absolutely insane, especially for what you get!
    Ugh!
    No offense to you, Cash!
    Love your videos.

I think the real issue is that everything is still being marketed towards single young professionals who are expected to have roommates. The reality is that Millennials make up the majority of the population now and they are looking for real estate and rentals. They are entering the part of their life where they are looking to get married and have kids. Who is going to have a family in a one bedroom apartment?? If some of these were two bedroom apartments, it would make a little bit more sense

Native New Yorker here - two things that make this suck.
      1) the pandemic created a really weird situation where the supply was actually rising and demand didn't dip as much as people thought it was so apartments became affordable, AKA the "covid deal"
      2) the amount of people who are moving in to get the "NYC experience" who know full and well they're paying too much for shitty apartments Is prolly never going down anytime soon and im pretty sure all parties know this is unsustainable. people are justifying it because they say "well im only going to be young and in New York once" that doesn't go for every renter but a big chunk of them are young adults with no kids and want to be on the main character vibes. I dont blame them bc if I wasn't in New York and I had the means to try it out once I would absolutely do that - but it stinks for residents who live here who are getting priced out bc they have pretty middle of the pack incomes like those who are in service or those who just dont work in finance and tech. I can't tell you how many middle America kids I run into at bars who are like "yeah I graduated *big college name* with *tech or finance or law degree* im making 120k out the jump and I just wanted to try the city out bc yolo right" AND I CANT BLAME THEM because they're not gonna get that city life in Idaho or Nashville or middle of nowhere South Carolina.

'lanna represent! Lived on the north-side, off near Norcross. A bit higher priced - which is why I moved to the Rust Belt. Cheap housing and plenty of room. I actually share a state with this place and got a house for under 50k. Needs work but nothing a bit of sweat and tears can't fix.

We had to leave our 4 bed townhouse for communal repairs and a renovation, all our balconies over look the harbor here and move into a month to month rental. Because we didn't think we would be there long, we took a really small, dark, simple 2 bedroom apt that was A$4grand p/m, all in all about US$6g p/m. It really made me feel like I was back in LA.

Weird is OK if it's functional, but some of these places have problems. A sub-basement many feet below street level (flood risk)? A seedy hallway with chipped paint and doors that look like they've been jimmied? Paying $2,000/month to share a bathroom with three strangers? A kitchen with no counter space or that has only 18 inches between the counter and the wall? Windowless living areas? Bedrooms that will accommodate a bed and nothing else? I suppose there are people who will sacrifice functionality and pay the price for the location, but I'm not one of them. You and Charles have shown us apartments in the same (high) price range that provide something better for the money.

I've seen the same thing in the Village for over $1,200 and of course some young bumpkin from Indiana was perfectly willing to pay it so he could say he lived in the city.

I watch pretty much every episode and I find it absolutely shocking the cost to rent these apartments. Some of them make sense to some of them are pretty awesome but a lot of them just why would you ever pay that much to live in such a crappy apartment? But cash these are the best New York videos on CZcams love watching.

I lived in NYC for most of my life. Once my rent is over, I will have to move to another state. The rent caters to people who work in tech or finance and are not from the area. It is sad that more and more homeless people live in other states where they could afford an apartment. Unless you know someone, you will be homeless if you have a medium income. It's so sad and disguising.

I love the windows in that flat with the awful wallpaper. The studio loft is definitely workable even if the kitchen has a clockwork orange sorta vibe to it. I would keep my bed on the lower level as I'm not climbing down stairs to get to the loo in the middle of the night BUT that loft would be great for storage, maybe a den area for watching movies and console gaming etc. It's definitely workable.

The landlord should knock the asking price down to $4,985. Loved the renovated kitchen & bathroom and the washer/dryer in unit. The City views were nice as well.

I also have a unit which my uncle has had on rent control sjnce I was a kid .. from atleast 98' onwards ... And with every rent hike from move in thru today it's a 2 bed 2 bath 3rd floor walk up near boro park for 1335usd per month ... The ppl who sub let these on private rent market for full market rates mess it up for the rest tho man ... But bless rent control or we would be forced out the boro which we were all raised in

I agree...When I first moved to Toronto, one of the first places I had on my own as a two storey garage converted into a studio apartment. Kitchen with one small window where the property's car used to be stored, circular stairs to the second floor living space and bathroom. You can't appreciate the amenities and normalcy of a regular apartment until you've lived in a quirky space.
