Okay, NYC. Enough with the out-of-control high rents.
When I first began following Cash (during the lockdown!) the prices were so high to me, sitting here on the Southside of Atlanta, but still reasonable. It's NYC, after all.
But these prices now are absolutely insane, especially for what you get!
Ugh!
No offense to you, Cash!
Love your videos.
I think the real issue is that everything is still being marketed towards single young professionals who are expected to have roommates. The reality is that Millennials make up the majority of the population now and they are looking for real estate and rentals. They are entering the part of their life where they are looking to get married and have kids. Who is going to have a family in a one bedroom apartment?? If some of these were two bedroom apartments, it would make a little bit more sense
Native New Yorker here - two things that make this suck.
1) the pandemic created a really weird situation where the supply was actually rising and demand didn't dip as much as people thought it was so apartments became affordable, AKA the "covid deal"
2) the amount of people who are moving in to get the "NYC experience" who know full and well they're paying too much for shitty apartments Is prolly never going down anytime soon and im pretty sure all parties know this is unsustainable. people are justifying it because they say "well im only going to be young and in New York once" that doesn't go for every renter but a big chunk of them are young adults with no kids and want to be on the main character vibes. I dont blame them bc if I wasn't in New York and I had the means to try it out once I would absolutely do that - but it stinks for residents who live here who are getting priced out bc they have pretty middle of the pack incomes like those who are in service or those who just dont work in finance and tech. I can't tell you how many middle America kids I run into at bars who are like "yeah I graduated *big college name* with *tech or finance or law degree* im making 120k out the jump and I just wanted to try the city out bc yolo right" AND I CANT BLAME THEM because they're not gonna get that city life in Idaho or Nashville or middle of nowhere South Carolina.
'lanna represent! Lived on the north-side, off near Norcross. A bit higher priced - which is why I moved to the Rust Belt. Cheap housing and plenty of room. I actually share a state with this place and got a house for under 50k. Needs work but nothing a bit of sweat and tears can't fix.
They are paying for a dream , those free furry pets that are everywhere, feces smeared in their faces on the subways, lots of random violent attacks and extreme weather! That's not cheap 👌🏾 I'm from NY and always dread going back to visit my family.....New Jersey is a little better......
@@alexordonez9842 NYC - Society, at a PRICE. North Carolina, Idaho . . . talk to the trees, rocks - Lol 💀 🇺🇸 😬
I'm constantly amazed... sometimes horrified by the crazy layouts of these apartments.
Most of them are apartments designed for families that have been chopped up to accommodate single adults renting rooms and sharing common areas. It's a shame what they've done to these once beautiful and spacious apartments just to make a profit.
A couple of those places gave me chills.
These are especially embarassing, slumlords deserve to go bankrupt
“Crazy layouts”? What about the crazy rental prices?😳🤦🏽♀️
@@lindaaldridge-johnson6110 and it's to the point where you can tell how poorly the design/layout have become.
Once upon a time, young folks who had entry-level jobs or were students would rent places like these, but they can't afford them now. Even when sharing, they need an income far beyond what a server or store clerk can make to live here.
These places are so terrible and so expensive.
Lol you need to be a corporate professional with a master degree to afford to rent one of these terrible apartments
The landlord is clearly a slumlord
Not anymore. only The rich or affluent can afford Nyc. Or living w 4-6 roommates
My studio apartment in Phoenix, AZ is way better than this junk.
Our 28 year old daughter can't afford her own place and she makes a great salary. She says she'd rather live with us than take a chance on a crazy roommate. My advice to out-of-towners is to get on lists for rent-stabilized apartments before moving to New York, and only move once you've gotten one.
I think you need to be an NYC resident for at least a year to qualify for those lists.
You have to be an existing NYC resident to qualify for those apartments.
Rents are going up all over...like everything else...my neighbors have to move b/c the landlady just raised his rent...it's not in NY....it's a tiny house... I mean tiny ...like a camper ....two bed one bath...and not very modern..1500.00 a month now...it's getting insane all over.....I don't know how young people are going to make it...
Yeah, get on those lists and by the time you're ready to retire, you'll be called.
Good luck with that.
So, 5,200 to live in a dark dungeon and 7,900 for a dark 4-bedroom with just one bathroom? What kind of insane prices are those?
Those are insane prices for these EXTREMELY GREEDY SLUM/LAND/OVERLORDS.
Reminded me of the years I earned 7,900 while raising my kids and paying my house payment.
And yet, imagine: here in Sydney, AU, our city was deemed to be the 6th most expensive while NYC was in 10th place. When? June, 2022.
We had to leave our 4 bed townhouse for communal repairs and a renovation, all our balconies over look the harbor here and move into a month to month rental. Because we didn't think we would be there long, we took a really small, dark, simple 2 bedroom apt that was A$4grand p/m, all in all about US$6g p/m. It really made me feel like I was back in LA.
bUt ThEy wIlL bE rEnTEd.
Landlords in the city have gone mad with pricing. This is a part of the reason people are homeless in NYC. Who could afford these closets for apartments? For this price, I would rather buy an rv that I can own and occupy.
Homeless yes
that's what they do in Silicon Valley in California....RV it
@@maddscientist3170 Smart. At least they own the RVs.
I love how every one blames the owner. How about NY has the highest property taxes, insurance, besides CA. They don't own buildings to help people out.
Sure you could buy an RV, but where could you park? Even the parking is outrageous, or nonexistent in New York City.
Cash I know people leave comments like this often but I want you to know I have no intention of ever moving to NYC but I love this channel and watch all these videos anyways. I really appreciate the time you spend on all the production and editing of the videos and getting to see glimpses of your family. I don't understand why anyone would pay these crazy prices just to live in NYC but I really love this channel and I'll continue contributing to views!
I feel the same way! We pay $1,535 for 2 bedroom 2 bath with a den and back porch space I know would cost 10,000 in New York!! 😩 Love watching him show us the city though! ☺️
I live in Utah and am amazed by rents in NYC.
When you make over $125k and you are forced to live in one of these size apts (with little amenities), at such a great price, it's hard to feel like an adult, let alone a valued citizen.
Weird is OK if it's functional, but some of these places have problems. A sub-basement many feet below street level (flood risk)? A seedy hallway with chipped paint and doors that look like they've been jimmied? Paying $2,000/month to share a bathroom with three strangers? A kitchen with no counter space or that has only 18 inches between the counter and the wall? Windowless living areas? Bedrooms that will accommodate a bed and nothing else? I suppose there are people who will sacrifice functionality and pay the price for the location, but I'm not one of them. You and Charles have shown us apartments in the same (high) price range that provide something better for the money.
NYC . . . Great Place to Visit ('I love New York') Could never afford to live there 💀 🇺🇸 😬
Most of that stuff is a serious issue (and the price is bs)... But you don't really NEED the classic depth of counters lol.
18 inches is enough
@@paulsuprono7225 And most people never wanted to!
The last apartment was the only one I would even consider. The others were impossibly expensive or hideous dumps!
I STILL don't understand how they afford to pay rent and live in New York !
What’s crazier, $10k/mo rent, or the fact that someone (or two people) can actually afford it!
It's probably like 6 people with bunkbeds in those apartments
I just can’t imagine having that kind of rental amount looming over me each month. Talk about stress! I’m so happy I bought my 3 BR 2.5 bath with one acre home when I did (12 years ago) and have a mortgage payment that is less than a one-bedroom apartment in the cheapest of markets!
I’ve got 5 bedroom and my payment is $747 a month, insurance and taxes included
I live in Long Island ny and bought my 3 bedroom cape code 26 years ago, with fixed mortgage at that time it was $135,000. I only pay $1,200 a month and pay less than $6,000 for property taxes ( reduction both my spouse & I are Veterans, he’s disabled Vet). I can’t believe what people are willing to pay in NYC for these “apartments “! Sone are a hole in the wall and the greedy landlords are charging these high rents because of the location! So sad that our young people can’t afford rentals without getting roommates! 🙄🤷🏾♀️
I have a nice 5 bedroom house, study, library, game room, and while it’s paid for the taxes are $14,000 a year.
Right? I live in Tucson Arizona in a little house and my rent is $650. How many jobs do you have to have to afford New York City rent? I don't think I can work that hard LOL
More overly expensive apartments in NYC w/ graffiti everywhere as a view. Ridiculous. Major pass I'll take my $750 a month apt in the Midwest. No offense to anyone who thinks $5000 a month is a good deal.
Do any of those apartments have a sink sprayer and a wine fridge?🤔😂😂😂😂 Good to see the triumvirate of Cash,Charles and Bryce collaborating. 👍👍👍👍
Today Cash is giving us the NYC reality check. Damn.
Those first apartments were horrible. I'm glad you admitted as much! Your videos are wonderful as always.

Why do I think that last Charles Monroe apartment was in a building he's already shown us? The rents are absolutely crazy for a lot of chopped up places
Door locked? No problem, with Cash & cards to the rescue! 💳 Always nice seeing Charles as well.
Really a problem if you plan on renting any place where anyone can enter with just a subway card
That always gives me a chuckle BUT if I was living there I would not be happy with that level of 'security'
Unfortunately, these are the same (or similar) tactics that package bandits, burglars, robbers, and rapists use to gain access to these buildings.

My sentiments exactly.
I imagine some of these high priced pads are occupied by rich bachelor lawyers who spend most of their time in court, clubs, office and only come home to crash. They could be in a Jay McInerney movie from the 80s. Love your videos, Cash, as always. I remember as a child back in the mid to late 90s rent were around $500-$700 in the Bronx for 2 bdrm apartments.
Yup it’s crazy now . My mom rented a one bedroom with us ( her children in Brooklyn ) for 500 in the 90s
NYC landlords are getting more and more creative. That first location is a literal basement storage area that was renovated. I doubt if it's a legal apartment.

They have a nerve to ask for 5k a month and the appliances are old and disgusting, no room even! Nothing in it justifies the price
The rent prices are totally stupid at this point! I like looking at apartments walkthroughs just for fun, but the rents are hilarious. Stop it. Stop it now.
Rather repulsive so much is being charged for apartments full of the SAME appliances used in government subsidize housing.

Living in Manhattan is insane. Last time I found a place there had to be more than ten years ago. It was tantamount to an SRO somewhere on 9th Avenue for $700. I've seen the same thing in the Village for over $1,200 and of course some young bumpkin from Indiana was perfectly willing to pay it so he could say he lived in the city.
I live in one of the outer boroughs now and pay below market value for my place. Given what I make it's a blessing, otherwise I wouldn't be able to afford a place at all.
I can't believe the rents in NYC. They are so small and old and most look really unsafe. What kind of job would you have to have to pay that rent. Thanks for sharing it is really fun looking at all the apartments and seeing what is available there.
Those were some of the worst apartments, very claustrophobic and the rent on these is way more than a mortgage payment. Such a different way of life. I love watching your videos, blessings to you and your family.
Thank you for making me appreciate living in Michigan with this video.
Yessuhhh thanks for these visors Cash!!! Love seeing all the unique places around town/ city!
I lived at 20 fifth ave for 6 years! Best apartment I ever had in Manhattan. 16th floor. Apartments in that building go fast. Epic sunsets. Best door man on earth. Marvin. You rock, I miss you man!
I watch pretty much every episode and I find it absolutely shocking the cost to rent these apartments. Some of them make sense to some of them are pretty awesome but a lot of them just why would you ever pay that much to live in such a crappy apartment? But cash these are the best New York videos on CZcams love watching.
I'm still trying to catch my breath after that tour! 😆
Some of these kitchen appliances need an upgrade.
I got to say it… THE RENT IS TOO DAMN HIGH!!!
I lived in NYC for most of my life. Once my rent is over, I will have to move to another state. The rent caters to people who work in tech or finance and are not from the area. It is sad that more and more homeless people live in other states where they could afford an apartment. Unless you know someone, you will be homeless if you have a medium income. It's so sad and disguising.
Those window bars look like a jail cell....
Love the last 3 apartments with all the windows.
I love the walks filmed (or bike rides) you take to the apartments the best. The summer videos really showcase the eclectic weird beauty of the neighborhoods and the differences in each area of the city. When I watch the videos I can imagine living a different life in NY, starting the day with a good cup of coffee there and enjoying the noise. Your channel is, of course, my favorite.
Who knew Cash had a secret “BREAKING AND ENTRY” background???
These New York landlords have lost their minds... These shoe box apartments cost more than some mortgages in different states 😐
I love the windows in that flat with the awful wallpaper. The studio loft is definitely workable even if the kitchen has a clockwork orange sorta vibe to it. I would keep my bed on the lower level as I'm not climbing down stairs to get to the loo in the middle of the night BUT that loft would be great for storage, maybe a den area for watching movies and console gaming etc. It's definitely workable.
I loved that awful wallpaper lol.
$1550? Oh I thought you said 5150! You'd have to be nuts to rents some of these places! Happy Sunday! :)
Disgusting place. Unfit for human habitation in my view.
What??? NO sink sprayer????? I miss you bringing out that feature.
Yeah the videos arent as funny as they used to be.
Not one sink sprayer 💦 in any of the apartments shown😳.
Wow! Those were kind of rough looking for the prices! Thank goodness for showing us the few Apts toward the end. Thanks for the reality check 😜 Have a great day!
i just love the way you guys work together. charles i just love that electric bike. it is so much faster then mine.
Gonna go grab a couple discarded Metrocards to put in the wallet. Just in case.
Too many apartments to critique. Out of all the apartments, I only liked Bryce Boyd's one bedroom apt with the high end finishes for $5,685. The landlord should knock the asking price down to $4,985. Loved the renovated kitchen & bathroom and the washer/dryer in unit. The City views were nice as well.
Cash ... Thanks for lumping all of these sub-standard apartments into one video instead of making me waste my time watching individual videos on each one. Did that landlord get all of the cheap white contractor-grade appliances on sale at the same time? (Does not apply to Bryce's and Charles' apartments. They were somewhat nice.)
8:06 the poor dude who's just trying to work from home 😂
I'm so grateful for where I live. I only pay $326 a month and the only bill I have to pay is the electric bill.
I love all your videos Cash, but this one I was finding my head swinging back and forth without even realizing it!!!! No, no crazy prices! The only one I would even consider is the one with the fireplace and even that was ridiculously priced.
I don't care if I'm in the hottest hippest part of town there is no way I would pay these prices. Interesting to watch though. Have a great week! 🙂
The $3100 a month apartment at least had a range hood.
The rest are not up to my standards. Why would someone pay that kind of money to live in some of these?
My standards are not that high. I could never live in New York City. I prefer being miles away from my neighbors.
Love the studio with the loft!!
I definitely loved the rapid back to back showings of so many apartments. Getting the most bang for your buck feel... even though this video wasn't a buck to watch lol
@ 2:33 You could not pay me to live next to that.
I liked this format quite a bit. You don't have to do it all the time but I would like to see it from time to time. Any chance you can do it with some Brooklyn apartments?
Was that a rear tenement? Curious? Also, I wouldn't take it. It is definitely illegal and at risk of eviction once the City gets ahold of the details. It doesn't look safe. Looks like a fire hazard among other issues. That's a big nope and that price... f that!!
Absolutely love the new music! Great Work as always Cash!
Thanks again for a quick escape with a virtual trip to New York! Can't help but flashback to 9/11 when I hear the sirens going through the canyons of NYC buildings. Long live Cash! ✌💜

I liked this video. Great length and content.
We bought a HOME in 2020 in salt lake city. 4 bedrooms, two bathrooms, .25 acre, lovely neighborhood and neighbors, 10 minutes from down town, 10 minutes from the canyons and 45 minutes tops to park City. Mortgage is 1400$ a month. Glad we bought when we did. Our house is now worth almost double what we bought it for. Crazy!!!!
You make me anxious with all the scene cuts😂😂
I love my city but $5200 nah I’m good.
Thank goodness for rent control man ... My parents put myself and my two sisters on the list for rent control when we were just kids (not sure how that works exactly) but my sis got into a 2 bed near marine park / Flatbush ave for 1250usd a month since 2011 or so and I'm sure she told me they're only allowed to raise rent by 50 bucks per year max ... I also have a unit which my uncle has had on rent control sjnce I was a kid .. from atleast 98' onwards ... And with every rent hike from move in thru today it's a 2 bed 2 bath 3rd floor walk up near boro park for 1335usd per month ... The ppl who sub let these on private rent market for full market rates mess it up for the rest tho man ... But bless rent control or we would be forced out the boro which we were all raised in
@@MoAli-wm4of that’s great. I moved out of NYC to Pennsylvania. What I paid for rent over for a shity apartment, I got a house with 6 bed rooms here.

Wait was this the world Guinness book attempt of most apartments viewed in a day? Talk about putting in work Cash. It’s always fascinating seeing apartments in areas I frequently visit. The apartments in the beginning reminded me of some of your older videos Cash, so it was refreshing to see.
I love!!! the one you used the card to get into♥
Cash shows every burglar how to break into any locked apt. No wonder there is uncontrolled crime in NYC. I would do anything NOT to live in that cesspool.
How in the world are they allowed a visible gas line along the wall??
Still over $5k? NYC is back. Crazy prices are back!
No way would I live in a dungeon that has a gas line I the living area. All these places look like rats would live there and the rents are criminal.
Weird is awesome. I love trying to make these oddities homes is pretty cool. Young folks moving to NYC should have a weird space to call home . I once rented a former dry cleaners on 25th street in Manhattan . It was weird . Thanks for the weird spaces this morning .
I agree...When I first moved to Toronto, one of the first places I had on my own as a two storey garage converted into a studio apartment. Kitchen with one small window where the property's car used to be stored, circular stairs to the second floor living space and bathroom. You can't appreciate the amenities and normalcy of a regular apartment until you've lived in a quirky space.

Judging from these apartments, the populous of New York City has been reduced from the cutting-edge to mostly transient Millenials
NYC RIP
Love Charles! He’s hilarious and seems super nice.
Those rents though…………I get it, it’s NYC. But even in the city, those places aren’t worth the price. Formica countertops and linoleum flooring for 5-6 thousand a month? No thank you.
That was interesting. So glad i got out of the city though but man it had such a great vibe there in the 80s and early 90s.
Damn, i live in NYC and even i think the rent has officially lost the plot.
This was a great sampling of what is available
I see that quantity has replaced quality these days !
always a good day when cash posts 🎉🎉🎉
I literally guffawed when you said the price! I think my friend who owns my apartment building pays less for the building mortgage than that for the rent for that tiny place!
lol how many stairs did you run setting up shots of you running up the stairs? 😀
Watching Cash videos relieves my hangover anxiety thanks for that 😁
Have you considered putting scannable QR codes in your clips and then we can learn more about each apartment by scanning those codes and it takes us to the listing.
The beginning of the video I thought, aww hell no!
That was fun! Cash you are hilarious, you made it look way too easy to open that door. And for all the over priced yucky apartments, there are still some decent ones available, good to know.
Gotta love the burn marks on the fridges.
Have nothing great to say about the market, prices have definitely recovered, plus a little extra. Folks, it is not that great living in these locations unless you have money for the rent and the overpriced restaurants and some other places to hang out other than your small apartment.
I'm a Transaction Coordinator/Realtor in San Diego and I do love watching your videos - Thanks fro making them!
Please tour 195 Prince Street, on the market for sale now, basement apartment - looks like a murder basement… could it possibly be legal?
I enjoy these vids, because they remind me why I won't live in a filthy claustrophobic city. I'm perfectly happy with the 2500 sq.ft. home we bought for cash a couple years ago. Even the occasional trips to Vegas (the nearest "big city" to us) fill me with horror at the living conditions - and it's nothing like NYC, of course. I expect the hotel rooms in the NYC-themed casino/resort there are somewhat less pricy than the hovels Cash shows, even at the daily rate...
I love the illegal apartments. Usually funky and weird, like me. But that refrigerator next to the stove has got to go or at least some insulation put in between the two. So you're not paying extra money for electricity to keep the fridge cold.. 😆✌🏼🤟🏼🙏🏼
great video thank you
