Simms tried to tell him (Florio) that I'm sure Allen did confront Diggs because that stuff happens in locker rooms all the time (Chris has been in one as a player so he would know) and Florio just wouldn't budge on his "theories" that this separation is all because Allen never spoke up, throwing a hissy fit to get his point across. Man Florio is so stubborn. Happy Chris never backs down from any of it.

I love Diggs, I gave him a pass for his behavior during the Bengals playoff game. However, he dropped that great Allen pass vs KC and his reaction to the dropped pass was over for me. I feel like Simms patience with Florio is thinning. He wants to talk football, not these constant conspiracies and what ifs. Look at his face during the first few minutes when Florio is just trashing the Bills beat writer, he wants to be elsewhere.

    • @jimstevenson424
      @jimstevenson424 Před 2 měsíci +10

When Florio puts his lawyer hat on and speculates, it puts Simms in a bad position. Simms is connected to staff and players, which gets info for this show. He can't be trashing reps, based on assumptions. In an earlier show, Florio speculated incorrectly that Allen wasn't pushing back against Diggs, and it crossed a line with Simms, who claimed Florio couldn't know and was probably incorrect. Diggs is 31 years old, and all of his advanced metrics are declining - he just doesn't separate they way he could 2, 3 years ago. He's certainly not worth what they decided to pay him - and the success the bills had down the stretch without diggs essentially showed them they do not need him. I respect GM’s and coaches that are direct. How hard is it to say Diggs was causing a distraction. As far as that Jets game Josh needed to hear it. Digs spoke for all of us fans. The Bills gave that game away more than the Jets won. If Josh doesn’t throw the ball and the Bills run it the whole game, they win. Either way I am hoping the Bills bounce back this season with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove. This season will change Josh’s legacy one way or another. I just picture a sensitive Ryan Leaf 'snapping' at a reporter after a bad game. If Allen's coaches and teammates were coddling him it might be difficult to hear the truth from Diggs especially if it is something like 'you can't be giving away games like that.' I 100% think Allen's coaches have coddled him since the AFC Championship game loss and that is why he's regressed so much and the reason nothing changes with regard to fumbles and interceptions....especially the fumbles. They're ridiculously bad. Ludicrous mode bad.

In a couple of days Mike Florio flipped from “I guarantee you that never happened….” to “I like knowing that the QB is taking charge of the relationship….” (so much for the value of his guarantee). It just reinforces somebody who grew up in a non-athletic plastic bubble wishing they knew what really happens day to day inside a locker room between young athletes. I know it isn’t popular to hear this but EVERY beat reporter for EVERY team in EVERY sport is not there to be a Florio. There are innumerable personality conflicts between players and coaches that you’ll never hear about because it is assumed to be off the record. Player access coincides with trust - you also don’t hear too much about the strip club, late night parties, and baby momma stories either - reveal too much to the public and you’ll never get access again.

      Apples and oranges:
      1) Even though he has six seasons under his belt, Josh Allen is still "somewhat" young compared to an older, established "field general" Brady -- and in Brady's comparable earlier days, I don't recall the Patriots having many (if any?) brutal losses to a division rival that shouldn't have happened due to lousy play. Indeed, in 99% of the Brady years, I don't ever remember Belichick's Patriots teams ever LOSING a game DUE TO LOUSY play -- if the Patriots lost, it was because the opponent played really well. Added to that reality is the fact that today's NFL is much more kumbaya and everybody hugs everybody -- including at the coaching level -- than was the sutuation in Brady's locker room. Brady would never even think of such a response because BELICHICK would NEVER have tolerated such soft thinking !!! It's hardly a news flash that McDermott is more "touchy-feely" of a coach and "player-oriented" that Belichich ever was or is.
      2) The setting and context are also a completely different dynamic. Don't forget that Josh Allen has never yet led the Bills to an NFL title (unlike Brady in NE), and the team's seasons have always ended in disappointment -- perhaps none as much as the last game the team played prior to the Jets season opener last year ("13 seconds" in KC was certainly a bitterly disappointing missed golden opportunity -- a would-be huge road "comeback" that we essentially had won but for a special teams blunder and "prevent defense" collapse that nonetheless offered promise and hope for "next year;" but the brutal loss to Cincinnati absolutely gutted this team because -- despite all their injuries, all the collateral challenges prior to and during the season [e.g., East Side gun slaughter, massive snow storm, fans shoveling out players, home game relocation to Detroit, missing Christmas stranded in Chicago, Damar Hamlin DYING on the filed 2x, etc.], the Bills were still playing at home, NOT facing dreaded KC yet [who they should have beaten the previous year], and were the FAVORITE to win the game). That Cincinnati game made the team genuinely doubt themselves, resulted in Les Frazier's departure as DC, and the true end of Diggs-Allen close friendship (as we now clearly know). Since the Jets game was the very next game following that Cncinnati gutting -- coupled with Diggs' meltdown and public humiliation Diggs bestowed upon Josh Allen ON NATIONAL TV, you have to recognize that an underperforming Allen would be ultra defensive to any negative "salt" that Diggs in particular would rub into the wound. Brady NEVER had to deal with even a shred of disrespect or criticism FROM a TEAMMATE (at worst, Brady was "effing Johnny Foxboro" to Belichick in team meetigs and at practice according to Giselle :)) . And since it was within the privacy of the locker room, Josh Allen probably just snapped and blurted out the first thing that came to his mind (indeed, perhaps his teammates consoling him had themselves been saying "it's just one game in a long season, we'll get 'em in the rematch" and that thought process was on his brain (???) and perhaps that's why he snapped "it's one effing game" as the "wittiest" comeback he could muster in the moment instead of perhaps something more personal and direct that he couldn't ever "take back" as easily if he had let it fly (e.g., something like "eff YOU; get the eff away from me")
As competitive as Josh Allen is, and as ruthlessly hard on himself as he is, I SERIOUSLY doubt that deep-down he TRULY believed "no big deal, it's only one game." Rather, in truth, I suspect that when he snapped at Diggs he was really ALSO venting anger and disgust he had at himself and how hard he was taking it internally -- his words "at" Diggs were simply transference and trying to convince himself instead of indicative of nonchalence. Just my opinion.

These guys saying that the bills got less than diggs was worth is kind of soon to be saying that. I've seen plenty of receivers like him fall off a cliff. It'll be interesting to see what he does

This shores up any doubts we had about Diggs leaving. Good riddance.
Bills ate $31M in dead cap space to be free of Diggs. Let that sink in. They too a $31M L to not have him in the team.
Then the new team gives him a one year deal. There’s a reason for that too.

MOVE ON! this trade is NOT that important. It’s just not. We will look back on this and decide it was the right move

You can shit on Buffalo if you want, but the same exact thing happened in Minnesota, so clearly this is a Diggs problem. I'm sure he'll be a boyscout in his first year in Houston, and at 31, the whiney diggs show won't last much longer regardless. As far as whether or not this is a good move for Buffalo, without a doubt it's a good move. First, he's a negative presence on the team because of his shit attitude. Secondly, they were forcing the ball to him to soothe his ego, and that led to bad offense. After the new OC took over, they stopped forcing it to Diggs and the offense improved and Diggs disappeared. Getting a 2nd round draft pick for a disgruntled 31 year old receiver who can be shut down because he's small and slowing is not a bad deal, especially when he obviously forced Houston to let him out of his contract after this season, so Houston is renting an aging wr for one season for a second round draft pick. He might have a great year in Houston, or maybe he's not going to get the number one looks he wants because houston is stacked and he ends up with mediocre numbers and another hissy fit. Stay tuned. But acting like this move destroys the bills or seriously downgrades them is ridiculous. In the second half of last season when the Bills went 6-1 to rebound and win the AFC East and secure the second seed in the AFC, Diggs averaged under 50 yards per game and had only one TD. Clearly the Bills did not miss him then and they will not miss him now. Having said that, the Bills have needed a true number 1 receiver for years, a big guy who can go down field and take advantage of Allens top end arm strength, they needed that when they had Diggs, who is a short to mid range hands guy at this stage of his career.

It was not the same thing in buffalo, the media has lied and spun that. He literally wanted to get paid and they would not pay him for 2 seasons so he wanted out. It was pure business. This was a different situation.

Let’s face facts. We need to see Josh Allen be great without stefon. Stefon was great before Josh and during his stay at bills.

Josh Allen plays better when he reads defenses and throws to the open receiver. He doesn’t need diggs on his back crying for the ball. Josh has elevated his game to a point where he doesn’t need diggs. The final stretch proved it. Bills need stay healthy on defense and they will be fine. They will make the playoffs as a low seed

I don’t begrudge the writer for not including that. They are part of the team too in a sense. They don’t have an obligation to throw the team under the bus based on journalistic integrity. That’s for the national reporters to do.

Another add to this about the Josh Norman comments. I was at every bills home game this year and 6+ since covid ended. Diggs has always taken himself out, especially deep routes on the bills side of the field, rarely would he ever take the jog back on a 50 yard incomplete pass. He hits the sideline for a breathe and 2 plays while someone would go in, thats why he was no where near the playing time of Gabe Davis. Deep ball to Gabe he was back in the huddle every play. That's what Norman is talking about, idk if that was an agreed upon plan with the coaches or if that's just how he operates on his own but that's a well known thing to anyone in the stadium every week.

Completely disagree the trade needed to be sold to bills mafia. A lot of fans were tired of the noise especially after some of his superbowl week interviews. The day of the trade people had some questions until Beane's press conference and then it was understood. And people in buffalo love this because they are now forced to take a top end WR which they've been asking for.

The Bills got a 2nd round pick that was from Minnesota! Which will most likely be a top 10 to 15 2nd rounder ! For a 30 year old cancer that was declining and never showed up in the postseason since he’s been here ! The chargers got a 4 for Allen and the browns gave up a 5 for cooper ! Last but not least the Bills cleared Digs off the books completely next season! Which is like 30 million in cap space!
