I wont lie, it gave me a bad taste in my mouth every time i see a gunbreaker tank now. Luckily, 99% of players are not at all like that and are significantly nicer.

Don't like leaving all the Juicy story XP on the table by pushing through with a Max out Job.

      Same here. Outside of WHM as WHM was the first job I started with, AST clicked with me rather quickly and it became may main healer job due to the amount of tools the job has so it never gets boring, and I also enjoy the theme to it so that help.
      SCH, on the other had took me a very long time to understand the kit and how to make use of all of the abilities. SGE took a bit of time too, but my time learning SCH made learning SGE much easier.
      At this point, I simply play all of them as I enjoy the different playstyles of each of the healers. AST would be my favorite out of all of them though, followed closely by SCH and SGE.

      Interesting. Astro was the first healer I came across. I did the first job mission and was so confused that I immediately decided to leave the whole job alone until I had done a simpler healer first. As a career scholar, I do notice that some people don't mention the Oh Crap potential of Emergency Tactics for Burst healing. Using Lustrate/Indom (1 or all) right before ETac into Adlo/Succor allows you to heal huge amounts of HP rather quickly, and I usually follow up with a regular Adlo/Succor to top off HP and put barriers back up. and ETac is also a rather short cooldown too, only 15 seconds, so you can use it fairly often if needed, and it doesn't provide any additional resource cost besides an extra click/button.

    You can quickly ogcd the tank and then go back to spamming the damaging button on the boss and trust that as soon as the cast ends you'll ogcd the tank and immediately start casting damages on the boss again :)

    For the longest time my main healer job was White Mage. I loved the way I was able to heal so much in so short a time and even mitigate some damage and I felt like my MP never ran out. This was even better when spamming Holy during mob pulls. A real green DPS. Endwalker changed that unfortunately. Now my main healer is Sage. While harder to play I love the fact that I can heal by doing damage and to have so many barrier spells. My only gripe is that... MP can run out quite fast despite the abilities that restore some amount.

    • @IceRuler
      @IceRuler Před 2 lety +1

      @@lartisteautravail All the healers seem to actually suffer from MP management now and that makes the balancing between healing and DPS quite hard. Yes, even Scholar even though that class uses a Fairy. Now I haven't played any of the healer jobs except Sage since Endwalker launched, but I do intend to. All of them stand at lvl 80 now. I did, however, tryout WHM and Sage on training dummies and it made me realize that I couldn't use WHM the usual way anymore. Namely it felt like I should actually save MP for healing rather than doing damage. So I dropped WHM because I believe I couldn't balance between damage and healing with WHM anymore. Make no mistake, though. The Holy spell is still one of the best spells in dungeon runs at least.
      Sage seems to, however, somewhat fix that problem for me. That's why I changed. It is still possible that my main healer job will change over time again, perhaps even back to WHM, but at least for now it's Sage.

    For once, I can appreciate someone's take on Whitemage. So many hate on it due to "lillies are useless and a DPS loss". Yet when I was leveling through the story, you could not find me happier then the day I finally reached Heavensward and finally unlocked the use of said Lillies. Their true power comes from their equal potency to regular GCD heals at no MP cost. This was so liberating after healing through all of ARR without them. And yes, the blood lilly is purely to compensate for the need to heal at times and not meant to be used if no healing was done.

    • @mindmaster064
      @mindmaster064 Před 2 lety +10

      WHM has to use the lily to avoid OOMing, that's what they're for. For the price of having to actually worry about mana you have the highest single target and burst healing. I"ll take the trade, lol.

    • @CrowYaeger
      @CrowYaeger Před 2 lety +1

      ...No
      Sage has the highest single target DPS of all the healers and it's not even close. The lack of oGCDs means WHM DPS suffers and Thin Air got completely neuteured. Holybell and Aquaveil aren't even good in a raid setting either.
      They actually ban WHM on the JP servers because of how fucking bad it is in raid. Why would you EVER run WHM over AST in raid?

    • @JCPC17
      @JCPC17 Před 2 lety +15

      @@CrowYaeger With how Yoshi-p called out Japanese players for being toxic to the devs, are you really surprised they'd be so elitist as to ban a class? That doesn't change the fact that both AST and WHM toolkits lose overall DPS as soon as heavy burst healing is required. That Sage and even SCH have higher rDPS isn't surprising since their toolkits are tailored for sustain HoT (Did you not listen to the video? He breaks it down very thoroughly)
      Every class is able to clear all content no matter what. If you listen to what the dummy DPS andies say alone obviously WHM would be banned from all content, yet parties with WHM are still able to clear everything fine.

    • @mindmaster064
      @mindmaster064 Před 2 lety +8

      @@CrowYaeger The numbers don't matter that much, that's why... When I play WHM I'm barely casting any heals just popping oGCD and instants. Certainly, Thin Air is nerfed, but it was nerfed because most of the time WHM doesn't even expend mana. I think the Thin Air hurts mostly at low level before you have the no-mana healing and rely on Cure II for the heavy lifting. Once you have enough varieties of cooldown heals and lily use heals there is really no reason to use Cure. This is true as soon as the WHM reaches 60...
      The problem with AST is that other jobs provide the same buffs it does (even better actually). So, if you were making your ideal raid you wouldn't bring this class because its buffs are stomped on by someone with a better/longer duration buff. So then we are left with raw healing outputs and WHM is better on that. Remember Holy is a heal when there are stunnable mobs, and no other healer has it. The difference is that the WHM is not depended on cooldown heals to heal, whereas the AST is. This makes the AST more difficult to use for no reason, and you trade away the best heal in the game... Which is Holy, lol. (Damage never done does not need to be healed, lol)
      The reality is few of us are playing in these raid nerd scenarios and then it comes down to the enjoyment of the class. I play all the healers and I find the WHM and SCH are far more enjoyable than SGE and AST. Mind you, I am a healer main... I play all of these. It is nothing for me to just swap to whatever I want.
      Just to add, I really do like SGE just as not a healer... More of a healer to use when you don't need much healing and you just want to stick the damage. WHM makes acceptable damage as well, but it's just not the priority when you play WHM you're more heal bot focuses in that job, and it's fine that's what you want when you play it, lol.

    Something else for WHM: it leans into the GCD healer as it has 3 powerful buff spells. Presence of Mind speeds up your casting and is great to use after using a heal or lily to catch up on damage. Normally, WHM can struggle with MP when not using their lilies and sometimes things go south in which you don’t have any lilies or AoE healing. Thin Air works great as a way to pump out a Cure 3 or Médica 2 free of charge or getting in a Raise for free. Otherwise, use it a Glare to keep it from overcapping.
    The last ability, Plenary Indulgence is another great buff to your AoE healing. This causes your AoE heals to heal an additional amount. It can be used in various ways: for your AoE lily, when you use Thin Air for a Cure 3, or casting Médica 2 after a large damage.
    While they get a bad rap currently, WHM’s powerful healing potential can singlehandedly deal with mechanics that can sometimes take 2 healers (well, until you get to 90 and AST gains Macrocosmos).
    It was also one of the first healers to solo heal EW trials and can handle party-wide heal check doom mechanics on it’s own (such as TG Cid) and also the only healer that DRKs love to be with.
    That isn’t saying it doesn’t have its fair share of design issues, but it’s still and amazing and powerful job.
    (Coming from an omnihealer that prefers to SCH.)

      Presence of Mind is no different from Lightspeed AST therefore i wouldn't say it has a 1 up then the other pure healing healer, they are even. The 2nd buff you mentioned was Thin Air, considering MP is bad with WHM rn I wouldnt call it a buff. Even with Thin Air WhM still struggling with MP even though that skill is suppose to alleviate the struggle. While AST dont have that, it's not like it's missing out considering it can handle MP just fine.
      I have no comment on Planetary, its decent.

      @@semekiizuio If you want to compare ya, but it stands on its own just fine.
      Could it be better? Ya, absolutely. Is it unplayable? No not at all.
      And Lightspeed is not the same as Presence of Mind. Presence of Mind speeds up your casting and is meant as a DPS boost.
      Lightspeed frontloads your casting and is meant for mobility and opening weave windows for the extremely intense opening that AST has (you start with 2 draw charges, so you need to setup to have 2 charges ready, 1 card ready to play, so you can use Play 3 times while also pulling your Arcana to see if it’s the Lord card, then also play your Lord card, and also using Astrodyne for your spellspeed damage buff, alongside an ES manual detonation if needed. It’s extremely busy).
      You still have the 2.5 recast timer with Lightspeed so the WHM will be casting faster, the AST will not. Lightspeed is for mobility. PoM is for turreting.
      And a buff as in a buff that the job puts on itself. Not buff as in a mechanical change from a patch. Even though it’s a charge for one cast, it’s still a buff. What it lost in power in its ShB iteration, it gained in flexibility. Which, is a moot point when you’re optimizing because the only thing it’ll be used on is Glare or Dia anyway.
      And the only issues WHMs have with MP is when they DON’T use their lilies. This is an issue in optimization as your lilies don’t need to be used as often because of how easily the party handles mechanics and therefore offers nothing other than delaying damage for MP gain. When a WHM is actively using lilies on top of Thin Air, they’re doing fine MP wise.
      Case in point: my WHM co-healer never has issues with MP in EW EX trials or Pandemonium Savage. I’ve watched and it’s not an issue at all. The only people I’ve seen complaining are the ones who are trying to optimize and found that you need piety to optimize damage…which is already an unoptimal approach so they have issues with it. I’ve run WHM in EX and it handles MP perfectly fine even when the other healer is pretty much AFK dead.
      And if you want to play AST, play AST. But AST is fAST and not everyone likes playing it. Someone playing a healer they like and do well on will get you further in prog than a healer doing something they’re not comfortable with. AST is VERY strong. But you’re not screwed if you bring a player who knows how to WHM.
      Edit: irrelevant as of 6.1. WHM is frigging awesome now!

I keep getting them mixed up, despite having it written down in front of me, lol. I'm at 83. Adding a second charge to draw for EW has confused me even more. I'm sure I'll get it eventually, but it's a very busy class with an overwhelming amount of things to learn. I hope I'm up to the challenge.
    Outside of that, I have WHM to 90 ( I love it), SGE to 82 (super fun), and SCH at 90 (because of SMN). I think all the healers are pretty fun, but I'd definitely recommend WHM to beginners. WHM can be a little rough sub 50 though. On the plus side, you can unlock a unicorn mount at CNJ lvl 30. I also think WHM and SGE are really fun in PVP, though I'm far from mastering either.

    If the pet is set to Heel, they need to stay completely glued to their owner, including when they're under sprint or other mobility buffs. I also think they should maneuver faster when the Place command is used on them.

    I would like to add that the slow stabilizing regen heals are on all 4 healers. Shieldhealer vs Pure Healer is more a matter of healing recieved damage vs mitigating damage in the first place. Also both Sage aswell as Scholar should not be underestimated in terms of raw healing potential. While Whitemage and Astro have more that doesnt mean u should just shield and mitigate as a Shieldhealer. Ur contribution to raw healing is equally important. For example if a Tank recieves 80k damage after a Tankbuster a raw healer can heal 60k while the shield healer heals 20k. A lot less but still important. In the end both variants are HEALERS. Recit+Excog from Scholar or Zoe+Pneuma from Sage are incredible at burst healing shit tons of HP.

    I'm playing healer in almost every game where this is possible and I started with FF14 playing as White Mage and it's till today my favourite job of all and my go to healer.
    It's toolkit might look simple but it's a lot of fun to play with and actually a lot of stuff to optimize due to the overworked and added OGCDs with endwalker.
    It's almost not possible to run out of MP when utilizing the new Thin Air well. You can keep up the tank in Dungeons with only your OGCDs and spam the saved lilys while having donwtime, so you got 4 Blood Lilys for every single Wall to Wall Pull after the first boss for a HUGE damage burst in combination with Assize and no damage loss whatsoever.
    And your big nuke heals makes it even possible and pretty comfortable to solo heal some savage content as an extra challenge, so you can have also have an extra DPS in the group :D

    My healer journey started after I already had a max level tank and ranged dps, it was just wanting to fill the role slots if it was ever needed.
    That said, I tried WHM and never made it past level 32. Didn't hate it, but just felt bland (Given, like all other jobs, it only gets better the higher level).
    I haven't tried SCH out yet, and I've maybe healed one or two dungeons as SGE to try it out...
    But why would I do that when the best healing job is AST? Nothing feels better than weaving a layer of timed aoe heals while keeping up damage and tossing cards around your team, at least from a healer standpoint. Earthly Star is beautiful, we grant a party damage buff - not counting cards, have a few minor shields and *layers* of regen spells to bandaid other's oopsies. The job is too damn fun and looks even better.

      You can use the F1-F4 keys to target party members, although personally I just made a separate HUD layout for healers that moves the party list closer to the center of the screen so it's faster to click on the names. Sage starts at 70, you have to play as a magical ranged DPS before you can pick up scholar, and (as you showed) white mage does the least DPS of the healers. I definitely think they all have benefits and drawbacks. I feel more like a healer when playing white mage than sage, but I think Scholar and Astrologian provide the best heals/party buffs of the options available. Is that DPS chart you showed including DPS provided to the party by the buffs provided? If not I think the gap is much larger - Ast and Scholar are probably the best in my opinion simply because of the additional utilities they provide. But as you said, all options are viable.
    Also scholar levels up arcanist too so you get 2 jobs for 1 if you're still leveling your jobs, so there's that too if you're still picking what to play as a new player. This would be my recommended class out of the 4 if you absolutely want to be a healer. Sage has been directly compared to scholar too (probably because of the shields) so if you wanted to change at 70 then you could.

    Its no surprise SGE is at the top, SGE does alot of dps as a healer and also mitigates quite well. WHM on second is good but i’d argue AST could be right there. It all depends on team synergy since AST can buff certain members’ dmg and the entire group at times.

  • @jimi_jams

    My first and most game experience healer was AST. I love the glut of ogcd abilities I can whip out in any situation, and while I sometimes bemoan the mass of weaving needed for optimal play, that’s what keeps it engaging for me. SGE is my second healer for when I need to fill the barrier role.
    I agree with the sentiment of going with the healer you’re comfortable with and enjoy the most, as the setup of pure + barrier isn’t a set in stone must-do. I’ve done double barrier in PS for reclears for fun, and it doesn’t hurt the overall synergy when you’re not focused on hyper optimisation.

    i really hate the Trend of Healers being a worse DPS in MMOs that emerged in the last few years. I picked the healing Job up way back in the early WoW days because i liked keeping people alive and not having to press a dmg rotation (maybe throw a dot here and there on the Boss or apply a debuff if i have a free GCD between boss dmg windows). But it has become the opposite in many games.. you press your damage rotation and throw in some healing spells that are OGCD and only in very niche scenarios you actually sacrifice a GCD for a strong healing skill. If i want to press a damage rotation i play tank or damage dealer goddamnit! :P But anyway.. my healer of Choice is the WHM because... we dont have many dmg skills and we still heal alot within the GCD :D

    • @Jolsn
      @Jolsn  Před 8 měsíci

      At that point you still cast a heal for 2.5 seconds. You do get a stack of Toxicon, which deals the same amount of damage as your basic Dosis, but that doesn't mean that for casting the spell you didn't lose 2.5 seconds during which you could have cast a damaging spell. The only benefit of Toxicon is that it's an instant cast, so the next time you have to move, you can cast that instead of Dosis. The only healer that can do that DPS neutral is White Mage, due to the Lillies.

      @warman13x Před 2 lety +1

      Assuming you have good gear, you probably don't need to worry about your piety stat. At least in most cases from my understanding. I think typically crit is priority followed by either direct hit or determination. Best in slot will change this slightly, though. So keep in mind that this is only a general rule. And spell speed is mostly a comfort stat than anything else

    • @erankel3949
      @erankel3949 Před 2 lety +1

      The usual progression of focus is as follow : Det + Piety at start. Then convert Piety to crit has you get more confident in your MP management. Det is a good base stat it help having a flat regular gain in performances where crit is more random... if you luckout at the bad time you struggle to heal someone.
      Spell speed in third to help with regen ticks but not much... most of heals cast are 1.5s for 2.5GCD...
      While levveling up Gear sets have balanced stats that do the work so don't go to hard on yourself ^^

    I would like to know how you manage to have the enemy's cast bar in the middle of the screen *while not targeting the enemy,* like at 3:33. I know how to disconnect the target's cast bar from the hp bar and all that, but I can't make it so that I can target something else and still have their cast bar display. That seems like a good thing to be able to do as a healer.

    My favorite healer right now is Sage hands down. I've leveled and played all the healers now in Endwalker for a little bit and I can say that White Mage feels much the same as Dark Knight where it didn't really change from Shadowbringers except that unlike Dark Knight it actually got worse because they nerfed both its DPS and MP management. Comparatively, Scholar got buffed out the ass mostly by QoL improvements to the pet system that makes it feel so much more responsive on top of having expediant which pretty much ensures that it will ALWAYS be in the meta. Astrologian is in a weird spot because it's got WAY TOO MANY BUTTONS for some odd reason. If SE could just do something about its button bloat then the job would be just about perfect for its role as its throughput healing and MP management are fantastic (something I wish I could say for White Mage right now) which basically makes it my go to pure healer at the moment until SE does something about White Mage. I know that FFXIV Momo has made several really nice suggestions that I'd personally like to see made to White Mage but otherwise I'll be sticking to my Sage for the most part with Scholar seemingly becoming my secondary because the parties I've been running with have requested it.

    As a player that’s leveled up and plays every healer class If anything, I’d say that Sage is more of a challenging healer job than anything else since out of all of them it has the weakest of healing potential it’s a class that you have to be very active with in order to stay on top of damage mitigation and healing. It’s not for lazy healers because if you are then you’re gonna wipe a lot more often than with astrologian or with any of the other two healing classes.

    Could you possibly expand on what you mean by "I've seen a lot of WHM players become lazy with how they play"? I enjoy WHM and I'm only at level 70 and I feel like I'm probably going to become lazy if I haven't already.

      I think he’s pointing out the Glare Mage side there, where WHM forget they have to actually heal and not just spam Holy and Glare in dungeons. The other healers don’t have access to a reliable aoe stun spell to use as strong damage mitigation and so are needing to use their healing abilities more. It’s a minority of players for sure, as long as one remembers that keeping the party alive > one more Holy cast, it’s all good.

    I Hadn't played Sage for a while. Today I decided to try Aurum Vale. Big mistake, esp when you have a sprout tank who wants to pull everything and expect to be healed through it. The lack of burst heals on Sage was a huge issue, resulting in two wipes. Of course as a level 90 Sage I was told by the sprout tank that I didn't know how to heal.
    Aurum Vale is esp hard because of all the debuffs that need to be cleansed (if players don't pick up the fruit) and then trying to keep everyone healed. Entiely my own fault for taking a Sage in there.

    easy guide :
    white to chill (HoTs and instant heals)
    scholar to stress (shields are ok not great and heals are bad)
    Astro none of the above and cards became boring long ago (remake in 2024 for a reason)

    One note about the rdps difference in sage vs sch... You wont see that difference in 99% of groups you play in.
    Sch's raid buff, chain stratagem, puts it ahead in rdps assuming that your group is able capitalize on it properly. It's also assuming that your raw damage is at maximum by using the majority of sch's aether stacks on energy drain instead of heals.
    Sage will out preform sch's rdps in almost every group outside of highly optimized parse runs. Both Sages healing and damage is free compared to sch.
