Finally the PERFECT Creator Laptop? XPS 15 9500 Review after 3 Months!

  • After two years with my old machine, it was finally time for something new that could chew through my demanding video edits, but that still offered a great overall package for taking it on the go or using it at University. The obvious choice of course would have been a MacBook Pro, but as a Premiere Editor I wanted to give Nvidia's new hardware encoding a shot. Did I choose the right creator laptop with the XPS 15 9500 (2020)? This is my review after 3 months with it.

Maybe its your monitor not having good colour accuracy. Otherwise, if you're looking for nice wallpapers, I would recommend Pexels.com . It's got lots of 4k wallpapers with genres ranging from digital art to real photography. Maybe you'll find something that you'll like there.

I just became a subscriber. At first, early on in the video, I noticed your cadence in speaking was very fast. But, having viewed numerous online reviews about the new XPS 15, I was looking for someone to really put it all together in a thorough and honest manner that I knew to look for when I saw it. Well, I just saw it. Thank you! I am pretty much set on getting it with the exact specs that you have for yours. That said, I am concerned about getting one from a "bad" batch. I do not want to be on the phone with CS support. Perhaps I will give it another month for Dell to get this all straightened out or may be I will place my order tomorrow. Either way, your assessment was spot on both fair but also realistic. Great Job!! I got the extra push that I needed.

@Brian Alex Did you consider the Razer blade 15 base or advanced model ? It has also full unibody aluminium build, has really good screen options and overall Razer blade 15 both base and advanced model feels the most premium gaming laptop with really sleek design on the market if you also game. Btw you kinda look like one professional League of Legends Danish player called Bjergsen or full name Søren Bjerg without his beard photos or younger photos. Are you also from Denmark ?

Did consider the base model, the advanced one is much more expensive than the XPS 15 here. But I went for the XPS 15 since it's more compact, has better battery life, better trackpad and USB C charging. The main advantage of the Blade is the faster GPU and I didn't really need that for rendering. An no, I'm not that League of Legends player, in fact, I never played that game.

My only complaint about the new Dell XPS 15 2020 version is that the
keyboard is good, but not as good as the 2019 version. I love the
keyboard travel, and the power button feels SOLID on the older version
    of the XPS.
My two complaints about the older XPS 15 is that it
supports only ONE M.2 Slots, and that the speakers are on the downside
instead of having top firing speakers like the 2020 version does.

I bought this laptop 3 weeks ago. I have been using it for the past 5 days mainly on Microsoft Teams and a virtual fieldwork program for my course at university. The laptop is very fast although it heats up very easily and on 4 occasions in the last 5 days my screen has suddenly went black so I have to wait for about 5-10 minutes to get it going again and when I do, any apps open are gone so I have to set them up again. Is there anyway to rectify this or should I just send it back? Any suggestions is much appreciated.

i already have my 3th replacement, and this one has , screen freezes, sometime error when charging, Heating up problems, Trackpad issues(wobbles sometimes) as i noticed, and my screen seems faulty. sometimes after a restart most of these freezing problems are gone, but that shouldnt be the case in the first place.
You should brace for a long, and hard path of complaining and getting replacement after replacement after replacement , and after a few new xps's i hope you get a solid one...
